Mevo+ Vs SkyTrak

Are you considering a personal launch monitor to improve your golf game? Take a look at this comparison of the Mevo+ and SkyTrak+ to find the perfect fit for your needs and budget.

Golf launch monitors, once exclusive to golf stores and simulators, have become indispensable tools for golfers and instructors seeking to analyze swings and improve their game. Two popular options are the FlightScope Mevo+ and the SkyTrak+

SkyTrak Gaming

What is a personal launch monitor?

A personal launch monitor is a device designed to provide detailed performance data and analysis about a golfer’s swing and ball flight in real time. It uses advanced technology such as high-speed cameras, radar or sensors to capture and analyze various aspects of the swing including golf club data, club speed, ball speed, launch angle, spin rate, carry distance and more.

This information can help golfers understand their performance, adjust their swing and optimize their game. Personal launch monitors are typically portable and can be used indoors and outdoors, allowing golfers to practice and track their progress in any location with the various game-improvement features and feedback available.

Some launch monitors function better indoors versus outdoors while others are for indoor use only. Indoor only launch monitors require a base setup with a golf net, golf mat or full simulator enclosure.

FlightScope Mevo+

FlightScope Mevo Plus

The Mevo+ combines low-power Doppler radar and phased antenna array technology to capture data from your swing, club/ball contact and flight patterns. Despite its compact dimensions of 8.2″ x 8″ x 2.4″ and weighing only a pound, this portable device packs a powerful technological punch for golf enthusiasts on the go.

The Mevo+ also offers its own user-friendly app, FS Golf, available for iOS and Android devices (iOS 14 and Android 6.0 or newer). Additionally, it is compatible with the FS Golf PC 2.0 software for PC users. The app includes various sessions from swing practice to training.

Mevo App

With 17 standard data points included with purchase and the option to upgrade to the pro package which adds another 11, the Mevo+ is a robust launch monitor, capable of analyzing all aspects of your swing.

Mevo Features

The FlightScope MEVO+ offers accurate data measurement for several of the data parameters it captures. Its comprehensive capabilities make it popular among golfers who seek detailed feedback on their swing mechanics. Through its radar technology, the MEVO+ successfully captures data with precision.

The MEVO+ comes standard with E6 connect and 10 golf courses so you can hit a course if you choose not to have practice sessions. What better way to wrap up a range session than hitting the course?

SkyTrak+

SkyTrak Comp

Similar to the Mevo+, the SkyTrak+ utilizes dual Doppler radar technology but also incorporates a photometric camera instead of an antenna array. This space-saving device requires minimal operating space and collects data from 14 different points:

  • Carry distance
  • Total distance
  • Ball speed
  • Backspin
  • Side spin
  • Descent angle
  • Side angle
  • Launch angle
  • Shot shape
  • Clubhead speed
  • Smash factor
  • Club path
  • Face angle
  • Face to path

With its compact size of 6.76″ x 7.75″ x 6.25″ and weighing 2.7 pounds, the SkyTrak+ is a convenient choice, especially for those with limited space. It also doesn’t require any special golf balls to capture data accurately, making it compatible with any golf ball.

SkyTrak+ has established its reputation as one of the most accurate launch monitors in its price range. Its optical-based technology captures data with an impressive level of accuracy, providing consistent and reliable measurements for clubhead speed and ball speed.

As for simulation golf, the SkyTrak+ also utilizes E6 connect with its annual membership. It has its own app and virtual driving range ready for you to blow through as many buckets as you can handle.

SkyTrak App

Key differences, similarities and special requirements

While both units can be used indoor or outdoors, it is recommended to place the MEVO+ at least eight feet behind ball contact and a minimum of eight feet of carry distance so the unit does require a much larger footprint to operate in comparison to the SkyTrak

FlightScope recommends utilizing metallic stickers (provided with purchase) or RCT (radar capture technology) golf balls while the SkyTrak+ has no ball requirements.

While these devices are capable of providing accurate data, their performance may vary depending on the conditions, such as poor weather or incorrect setup.  Both units may experience issues with fluorescent lighting due to the energy emitted by these lights which can potentially affect the tracking systems. If you are considering a purchase, double-check your lighting conditions.

Battery life and operation are similar on both, utilizing a lithium polymer battery that lasts over four hours on a full charge. I have tested this in cold weather and it’s pretty spot on.

The MEVO+ costs $1,980 and you have the option of adding more club data and ball data points with its Pro Package at $899 and its face impact location for $449. These packages can truly enhance your experience but the basic package is enough for those looking to improve their game.

SkyTrak Use

The SkyTrak+ comes in at $2,995. With the annual subscription at $249.95, you can get the E6 simulator experience as well as training and feedback.

Are you ready to improve your game?

Both the FlightScope Mevo+ and the SkyTrak+ compared to each other are excellent options for golfers looking to enhance their game with a personal launch monitor. The Mevo+ offers a compact and portable design along with its user-friendly app and a wide range of data parameters for swing analysis. The SkyTrak+ is a convenient choice for those with limited space, offering compact size and compatibility with any golf ball. Both units have their own strengths and special requirements, such as placement and lighting considerations, but neither has any glaring weaknesses.

The ability to hook up either piece of equipment to a projector and have a fully immersive simulator setup experience is a major draw for any golfer looking to improve their game.

In regard to affordability, these units offer a significantly lower barrier for entry for a premium piece of equipment compared to others. With the flexibility to choose from various packages, you can customize your investment according to your budget and embark on a journey to enhance your golf performance for years to come.

      Uneekor! Uneekor! Uneekor!
Skytrak dropped the ball with their Skytrak+ update. I think most the home sim market would recommend. unit price points at: $1k used skytrack $2k-4k mevo or uneekor depending on if you have space for doppler. Uneekor is far and away building the best ecosystem and upgrade paths for those with space constraints.

Very helpful information. What is becoming increasingly clear is the importance of proper setup and alignment and ensuring you have enough space (indoors) available to get optimal performance.
