For us, forgiveness means how consistently a golf club produces the same shot outcomes. Can you repeatedly hit a driver or an iron straight at the same distance? Or are you hitting one shot yards short and left of the next one? Throughout our 2024 testing, we have found that forgiveness and accuracy often go hand in hand. We’ve also noticed that distance and forgiveness are hard to find in the same golf club. If you know your game has those moments of brilliance but want to see them more often, the most forgiving set in golf is the perfect place to start.
Most Forgiving Driver: PXG 0311 XF GEN6

Who Is It For?
✅ You want consistency from a driver: With an almost perfect forgiveness score, the ball speed and carry distance numbers are very consistent.
✅ You qualify for PXG Heroes: First responders and current and former military save big on PXG golf clubs.
Who Is It Not For?
❌ You don’t have access to a fitting: This is a driver worth getting fitted for. You may want to avoid it if you don’t have a local PXG fitting center.
❌ You‘re looking for maximum distance: One of the shorter drivers in the 2024 test.
Why Buy
The PXG 0311 XF GEN6 is the most forgiving driver of 2024. It has very consistent ball speed, carry distance and dispersion. With the PXG 0311 XF GEN6 results in this 2024 test, we can confidently say this is one of the best PXG drivers we tested. It comes off the face consistently but it’s certainly not the longest driver in the game.
One tester said, “It is surprisingly good.”
Our only word of caution is to get fitted for this driver. It’s not going to be a fit for every golfer’s game and the club fitting will help you dial in exactly what you need.
Others drivers to consider:

Most Forgiving Fairway Wood: PXG 0311 XF GEN6

Who Is It For?
✅ You need forgiveness and accuracy: A great combination of forgiveness and accuracy.
✅ You like a slightly larger clubhead: Larger than the standard 0311 fairway wood, the XF has a confidence-inducing look.
Who Is It Not For?
❌ You need distance: Ranks 27th for distance, not a great choice for short hitters.
❌ You can’t get fitted locally: With all PXG golf clubs, a fitting is a smart choice and can help increase distance.
Why Buy
If you decide to get fitted for the most forgiving driver, you may want to get some fairway woods to match. The PXG 0311 XF GEN6 is the most forgiving fairway wood of 2023.
In addition to being forgiving, it also took fifth place for accuracy. If you are reluctant to pull your fairway woods out of your bag, fearing they may not end up near the target, this is a great club to consider.
The only concern with the PXG 0311 XF GEN6 is distance. It ranks 27th out of the fairway woods we tested in 2023. It’s short but it’s consistent.
Other long fairway woods to consider:
Score: 9.7
Most Forgiving Hybrid: PXG 0311 Black Ops

Who Is It For?
✅ You need consistent ball speeds: The most forgiving hybrid of 2024, very easy to predict the results.
✅ You like adjustability: Testers liked the adjustability of the clubhead for fine-tuning their game.
Who Is It Not For?
❌ You prioritize distance: Ranks below average for distance.
❌ You need more accuracy: Surprisingly, the PXG 0311 Black Ops ranks below average in accuracy, proving that tight dispersion doesn’t always mean more accuracy.
Why Buy
Nope, this is not a guide on the most forgiving PXG golf clubs of 2024. It just so happens that the most forgiving driver, fairway wood and hybrid all come from PXG.
Whether you are a fan of PXG or not, you’ll have to accept that these are some of the most consistent golf clubs in the game. The PXG 0311 Black Ops produces consistent ball speeds, carry distance, backspin number, and dispersion.
The Black Ops is adjustable. Use this to your advantage to fine-tune the club’s accuracy and distance. Unfortunately, the overall distance and accuracy rankings for the PXG 0311 Black Ops weren’t great.

Most Forgiving Irons: Tour Edge Exotics E723

Who Is It For?
✅ You want a forgiving iron: The ball speed, carry distance and backspin consistency excel across the board.
✅ You also need accuracy: Every player should prioritize accuracy and the Tour Edge Exotics E723 is one of the most accurate irons for pitching wedge and 7-iron performance.
Who Is It Not For?
❌ You need maximum distance: Although the Tour Edge Exotics E723 has distance potential, it’s not as long as the best golf irons for distance.
Why Buy
Tour Edge doesn’t always get the credit it deserves for the quality of golf products it creates. Performance should matter the most when deciding which golf irons to put in your bag.
The Tour Edge E723 performed well enough to earn the best overall game improvement iron of 2024. However, the subjective feedback scores were poor. It isn’t the most appealing of the game-improvement irons, and the feel was not necessarily the best, but it comes off the face well and offers impressive consistency and performance from the short irons to the long.
One tester said about the Tour Edge Exotics E723, “Relatively easy to hit, but the looks are the biggest knock against it.” If you don’t judge a book by its cover, consider testing the E723.
Other forgiving irons to consider:
- Most Forgiving Player’s Distance Irons: TaylorMade P-770 23′
- Most Forgiving Player’s Irons: Titleist T-100
- Most Forgiving Super Game-Improvement Irons: Tommy Armour 845+

Most Consistent Wedge: Sub 70 TAIII

Who Is It For?
✅ You want consistency: The best golf wedge for consistency and ranked eighth overall in the 2023 test.
✅ You care about value: Very fair pricing for the performance it offers. The best value wedge of 2023.
Who Is It Not For?
❌ You need specific grind options: Grind options are not available.
❌ You need accuracy: Ranks below average for accuracy.
Why Buy
For our wedge testing results of 2023, we didn’t use the term “forgiveness.” Instead, we looked at consistency, which goes hand in hand with forgiveness. The Sub 70 TAIII scored 9.8/10 for consistency.
When analyzing wedges, we look at carry consistency and dispersion area. The Sub 70 TAIII is a great choice if you want a wedge that retains spin well in wet conditions, has consistent carry distance and doesn’t break the bank.
The Sub 70 TAIII is the best value wedge of 2023 as well. It ranks below average for accuracy and you won’t find many grind options. Outside of that, this wedge is worth testing if you are on the hunt for more consistency.

Golf Ball
Is there a golf ball that can be more forgiving than another? Not really. However, when we talk about forgiveness, the concept of a straighter flight is included.
The TaylorMade Tour Response, Titleist AVX, and Titleist Pro V1x Left Dash are our best golf balls for slicers or players needing lower spin and straighter flight.
When choosing a golf ball, you should consider other factors such as swing speed, price and construction.
Most forgiving versus least forgiving golf clubs (How much difference does it make?)
The difference in performance from the most forgiving club to the least forgiving club could be the difference between a fairway and a water hazard. If you know you tend to be inconsistent on the course, play with clubs that support you, not make the issue worse.

Interesting about ”forgiving” golf balls. I have heard softer balls are more forgiving due to compression, I guess that is a myth, or?
