Top 3 Best Mallet Putters For Medium-Length Putts

Golfers turn to mallet putters for their stability but not all mallets are created equal when it comes to draining putts from that crucial six- to 12-foot range. Medium-length putts are where scores are made or lost and the best mallet putters separate themselves by converting more of these chances. Based on data from MyGolfSpy’s 2025 Most Wanted testing, here are the top three mallet putters for medium-range putts this season.

Makefield Defiant

The Makefield Defiant owns the medium-range category in 2025. With a PuttView Handicap score of -9.7 for those medium-length putts, it beats the next-best mallet by a full point and separates itself by more than 10 points from the worst. While its short-range results are underwhelming, the Defiant is the most consistent mid-range putter in this year’s test.

At $349.99, it’s priced like a premium offering and its looks match. The oversized profile was not preferred by all testers but it’s the performance that counts. The Defiant delivers a smooth roll, great feel and surprising forgiveness.

Buy this if:

✅ You want the best medium-range putting performance.
✅ You value roll consistency and a heavier, more stable feel..

Don’t buy this if:

❌ You struggle with short putts and want all-around consistency.

Wilson Infinite Buckingham

The Wilson Infinite Buckingham proves you don’t need to spend big to get elite performance. It finishes second in medium-range putting (-9.2) and outperforms nearly the entire field at short range as well (-6.1). That balance helped it secure the title of 2025 Most Wanted Mallet Putter.

Aesthetically, it’s polarizing. Subjective scores were poor but nearly every tester admitted the roll quality and feel are top-tier. At $129.99, it’s a value pick that competes with putters three times its price.

Buy this if:

✅ You want elite performance at a budget price.
✅ You care more about results than looks or sound.

Don’t buy this if:

❌ You choose your putter based on feel, looks or brand status.

PING Scottsdale Prime Tyne 4

With a -8.7 PuttView HCP for medium-length putts, the PING Scottsdale Prime Tyne 4 rounds out the top three mallet putters for medium-length putts. It also posts a strong -10.5 on long putts, making it one of the best distance putters in this year’s test.

It features a premium feel and a clean, confidence-inspiring setup. It’s a heel-shafted putter suited to strong arc strokes so it may not be for everyone but if it fits your stroke, it could be a good choice.

Buy this if:

✅ You want consistent performance from 10 to 20 feet.

✅ You use a strong arc putting stroke.

Don’t buy this if:

❌ You need a face-balanced or center-shafted putter.

Thought there might be something new here based on the link in my email, but nope, just more pointless recycling of info from the test that had already been done, to get clicks I presume. Can’t wait for the inevitable story about the top 3 putters from long distance and again for the top 3 putters from short distance. But again some link will be titled cleverly enough to bait me into clicking on it, just in case there’s something new to actually see. Sigh.

I absolutely love the Buckingham. Ended up in my bag a few years ago for $99. Money well spent even at $129. Check it out.

Agree. I had a similar experience with the Bucktown – was given to me new for like $75. It hasn’t scored as well but it drastically improved my putting. I wasn’t crazy about the grip so I had it replaced. Next time around, the Buckingham is probably it.
