When it comes to player’s irons, accuracy is the most important feature. If you put a set of player’s irons in the bag, you expect tighter dispersion and shots that land closer to the pin. We look at one specific metric for our accuracy scoring: Strokes Gained. The top three most accurate player’s irons of 2024 are the TaylorMade P-7MC, PING I230 and the Callaway Apex CB.
TaylorMade P-7MC

Who Is It For?
✅ Golfers who want to maximize accuracy: The accuracy scoring for P-7MC is what moved it to the top spot for best player’s iron of 2024
✅ Anyone looking for more consistency: Consistent shot outcomes for ball speed, carry distance, backspin and dispersion.
Who Is It Not For?
❌ Players who want distance: Not all golfers want distance from a player’s iron but the P-7MC lacks in the distance category.
❌ Golfers on a budget: This is a premium iron that isn’t all that easy on the budget.
Why Buy
The TaylorMade P-7MC is not only the most accurate player’s iron of 2024 but it’s also the overall best player’s iron of 2024. With an accuracy score of 9.5/10, the P-7MC was by far the most accurate club we tested.
Throughout the testing, the TaylorMade P-7MC pitching wedge and 7-iron were the standouts. The testers’ ability to put shots close to the target with these clubs was the best of the group.
It’s not uncommon for golf irons that excel in accuracy to struggle in distance. That’s exactly what we found with the P-7MC. It’s one of the shorter irons in the test. Golfers with higher swing speeds who are not concerned about distance should enjoy this one.
Another thing that stood out about the P-7MC is the feel. Testers continually mentioned that both the look and feel of the P-7MC were better than expected. One tester said, “Solid iron. It checks off all of the subjective boxes. I felt like it produced one of the tightest dispersions.”
The bottom line is that as long as you are capable of producing some distance (or don’t mind sacrificing a few yards), the TaylorMade P-7MC is a highly accurate player’s iron.
Score: 9.5
PING i230

Who Is It For?
✅ Golfers who care about accuracy: The PING i230 was the most accurate 5-iron for 35 percent of our testers, 10percent better than any other 5-iron in the test.
✅ Anyone who is worried about sacrificing distance: One of the player’s irons that flirts with being a player’s distance iron with a sixth overall ranking for distance.
Who Is It Not For?
❌ Forgiveness is important to you: The PING i230 ranks near the bottom for forgiveness, measuring how consistently an iron produces the same shot outcomes.
❌ Golfers who struggle with short irons: The pitching wedge performance of the PING i230 cost it a spot as the top iron in the 2024 test.
Why Buy
The PING i230 has an accuracy rating of 8.1. Although that’s considerably lower than the TaylorMade P-7MC, it still earned a spot in second place.
The PING i230 irons shone in the long game. Our test included golfers hitting a 5-iron, 7-iron and pitching wedge. When we looked at the overall results, if the test was based just on the 5-iron, the PING i230 could have easily been the top iron of 2024.
However, the short irons are not as accurate and especially not as forgiving. Some golfers look at this as an opportunity for a mixed set of irons with PING in the long game but you’ll have to get fitted to make that determination.
The PING i230 does not have an issue with distance, ranking sixth overall. The key here is going to be deciding which area of your game needs the most from an iron. If it’s your long irons, the PING i230 should be on your list.
Score: 8.1
Callaway Apex CB

Who Is It For?
✅ Players looking for accuracy and forgiveness: The Apex CB has a good mix of performance across the board.
✅ Anyone who wants consistency: With high rankings for accuracy and forgiveness, you’ll get consistent performance with the Apex CB.
Who Is It Not For?
❌ Golfers concerned about distance: One of the shorter irons in the entire test.
❌ Players are particular about the top-down look: You’ll want to test this one before purchasing. Many testers had mixed feelings about the top-down look.
Why Buy
The Callaway Apex CB finished just behind the PING i230 with an accuracy score of 7.9. Although it struggled in the distance category, it held its own when it came to forgiveness.
Lower handicap golfers will find the Apex CB to have a pleasing sound and feel. Some testers, however, made comments about the top-down look. One said, “Slightly thicker topline given the category, but overall, I like it.” Another said, “Strange looking offset given the category. Performance is appealing overall.”
The Callaway Apex CB was the highest-performing Callaway iron in the 2024 Best Player’s Iron Test. The Apex Pro, although long, lacked accuracy.
Short hitters beware: The Callaway Apex CB is one of the three shortest irons in the test. However, it’s in good company with the forgiving T-100 and the best overall iron of the test, the TaylorMade P-7MC.
Overall, the Callaway Apex CB offers both consistency and forgiveness, even if you have to give up a few yards.
Score: 7.9
