Top 3 Most Forgiving Game-Improvement Irons 2025

Game-improvement irons are built to make golf easier, especially when your swing isn’t perfect. In our 2025 Game-Improvement Iron testing, forgiveness was measured by looking at ball speed, carry distance and backspin consistency (deltas) as well as overall shot dispersion. Based on that data, these are the three most forgiving game-improvement irons of 2025.

Fourteen Golf 25′ TB-5

Fourteen Golf may not be a household name compared to the big OEMs but it’s exactly this kind of brand that shows how smaller companies can break through in the forgiveness category. Their 25′ TB-5 topped the 2025 Game-Improvement Iron test for forgiveness, proving you don’t have to chase the most well-known badge to get top-tier performance.

What sets the TB-5 apart is its incredible consistency: ball speed, carry and spin deltas stayed tighter than any other iron we tested. That translates to shots that fly more predictably, even when you miss the sweet spot. Testers also highlighted its clean, compact look.

The one drawback is distance.

Buy this if:

✅ You want an iron from a boutique brand that delivers the most forgiving performance in the category.
✅ You value consistent launch and dispersion over chasing maximum distance.

Don’t buy this if:

❌ You’re after the absolutely longest iron in the lineup.
❌ You prefer a more tech-heavy, “super GI” look and feel.

ORKA CTi SF

ORKA’s CTi SF was a runner-up when it came to forgiveness, for good reason. It doesn’t just resist the mishits (via small deltas in speed, spin, etc.). It does so while maintaining strong accuracy.

If you want a club that doesn’t punish much off the toe or heel, this is one. The caveat is distance. It’s noticeably shorter in carry compared to many of its rivals. If your priority is consistency rather than maximizing yardage, ORKA CTi SF is a fantastic option.

Buy this if:

✅You want a game-improvement iron that excels in forgiveness and accuracy.
✅ You value consistency in spin, launch and dispersion.

Don’t buy this if:

❌ You’re looking for one of the longer irons in the category. This one is short.

Sub 70 699 v3

Sub 70’s 699 v3 lands just behind the very top in forgiveness but still in excellent company.

Its ability to minimize performance drop on mishits, maintain tighter dispersion and provide consistent carry makes it a sleeper pick. Plus, its direct-to-consumer pricing gives good value if forgiveness and reliability are what you’re after.

Buy this if:

✅ High forgiveness without breaking the bank.
✅ A well-balanced set that delivers consistency more than flashy looks or extreme distance gains.

Don’t buy this if:

❌ Not the longest iron out there.

Final thoughts

There’s a pretty strong trade-off when it comes to distance across all three of these forgiving game-improvement irons. If none of these irons is a fit for your game, take a look at our complete game-improvement iron testing.

One reason these irons are shorter is that the lofts are weaker than many GIs. Also, don’t get excited about any of these three if you are left-handed. You are out of luck. Sub 70 699 v1 and v2 are available left-handed. I have the 699 v1s and have been very pleased.

You do other DTC brands, why not MALTBY?
I see other people mentioning them.
Maybe it’s time, (past time) to give them a go….? 🤔
