5 Best Golf Tees of 2023

To be clear from the start, if you are looking for more distance or straighter drives, a different brand of golf tee probably isn’t going to provide it. MyGolfSpy’s Golf Tee Test showed pretty definitively that specialty tees provided negligible difference from a standard wooden one. Still, there might be a best golf tee out there for you. Let’s look at a few options and the reasons that might make them the best.

Pride Professional Tee System, 3-1/4 inch ProLength Plus Tee

The ProLength Plus tee isn’t on this list specifically because of the brand, but instead because of the length. At 3.25″ (and available up to 4″) this tee is significantly longer than most course freebie tees. This is important because a simple way for a lot of average golfers to find more distance with their driver is to hit up on the ball.

The easiest way to practice hitting up on the ball? Tee up that ball higher. Additionally, the ProLength Plus paint stands out from the grass and has a marked zone to help you consistently tee it the same height. That makes it the best golf tee to (maybe) add distance to your drives.

Martini Golf Tees

There might not be a worse feeling in golf than standing bent-over on the tee and having the ball fall off over and over. It’s easy to get frustrated, rush, and hit a horrible drive as a result. Whether it be nerves or age, there are points where teeing up a ball on a traditional tee becomes more difficult. For these times, the Martini Golf Tee is the best golf tee you can buy.

The wide-brim cup holds the ball easily, preventing golfers from having to constantly retee. Additionally, the bright colors tend to stand out well from the grass, making them easy to retrieve. Especially for some seniors, this makes the Martini tee worthwhile.

Flight Path Golf Tees

Flight path golf tees

One of the key features of Flightpath golf tees is their unique design, which includes a series of ridges and grooves that help to guide the ball into the optimal position for a clean and accurate shot. This design also helps to reduce the amount of friction between the tee and the ball, which can lead to longer drives and more consistent ball flight.

Many users have reported improved accuracy and distance with their shots, as well as increased confidence on the course. Additionally, the durability of the tees has been praised by users who have found that they can be used multiple times without breaking or becoming damaged.

YATTA Golf Telos Premium Golf Tees

Playing better golf often comes down to consistency. Consistency with alignment, routine, and swing. Consistency also matters in tee height, helping to control the strike point of the driver. While paint marks can help, YATTA has the golfers looking for a no-brainer covered. With the Telos tee, a small rubber disc fits around the bulged stem of the tee.

Once set, insert the tee down to the disc and you’ll know it stays the same height. Additionally, the rubber material (while not unbreakable) can take quite a beating.

Wedge Guys Professional Bamboo Golf Tees

It’s hard to be an environmentally-conscious golfer. From water-use to course maintenance requirements, the carbon footprint of a round of golf can be a tough pill to swallow sometimes. That said, there are small steps everyone can take to lessen the impact. One of the easiest is to play bamboo golf tees instead of hard wood or plastic varieties.

Bamboo grows 10 times faster than hard woods and can be much more sustainable. They also decompose much quicker than plastic tees ever could. There are some claims that the bamboo tees are even easier on mower blades than traditional tees, so the superintendent might just thank you for using them too. All small points to be sure, but taken together, they can make bamboo the best golf tees you can buy.

How to Choose a Golf Tee

When selecting a golf tee for your game, there are several factors to consider. Here’s a quick guide on what to look out for:

  • Launch Angles: A good golf tee should allow for optimal launch angles to maximize your driving distance. In our comparison, wooden tees, flight path tees, Four Yards More tees, and martini tees all produced similar launch angles.
  • Spin: You want a tee that minimizes spin to give your drives more control. Wooden tees consistently showed less spin compared to other popular tees.
  • Distance: The primary goal is to achieve better distance with your drives. In our tests, the wooden tees consistently performed better in terms of distance in comparison to other tees like flight path tees, Four Yards More tees, and martini tees.
  • Durability: While the wooden tee remains a top choice for performance, consider other options like the martini tee for increased durability and ease of use.
  • Tee Height: Consistency in tee height can impact your game. The Four Yards More tee boasts an identical tee height every time, which can be an advantage.
  • Price: The often free wooden tee offers great value for money. There’s no need to spend more on tees claiming unrealistic performance gains when the tried and true wooden tee delivers satisfactory results.

When choosing a golf tee, focus on these key points and avoid falling for marketing claims about longer and straighter drives. Trust your instincts and, if in doubt, stick with the proven performance of the good old wooden tee.

Not sure how you can’t include Western birch golf tees. One tee will typically last me +18 holes, they look unbelievable with striped colors.
