FIRST LOOK: TAKOMO GOLF 101T IRONS

Introducing the Takomo Golf 101T Irons. With golf equipment prices on the rise, a $589 golf iron set is an enticing option.

Takomo Golf is a relatively new direct-to-consumer brand based in Finland, of all places. Appropriately enough, they bring a Scandinavian mindset to their product by, as they say, “ensuring their timeless design encompasses quality and durability without compromising style for every golfer”.

Takomo Golf 101T Iron

Takomo Golf 101T Irons

The hollow-bodied 101T irons offer enough forgiveness to entice a broad spectrum of mid- to low-handicap golfers. Additional benefits include technology that should produce optimal ball speed numbers and a sleek topline with minimal offset.

We’ve seen the player’s distance hollow-bodied iron become popular over the past few years. Almost every prestigious OEM offers or has offered a player’s distance iron with the promise of being a perfect blend of forgiveness and distance. At just $589, Takomo Golf 101T is an intriguing option.

Product Specs

  • Right-handed only
  • 4-iron to pitching wedge
  • 7-iron loft: 32 degrees
  • KBS Tour and KBS Tour Lite (regular, stiff and X-stiff)

Takomo Golf’s Mindset

Takomo Golf originated in 2019. Two years later, they produced their first iron, the 101 (101T’s older brother).

Since then, they’ve been hard at work growing their brand. In 2022, they focused on growing their team, expanding infrastructure and adding products. As mentioned, Takomo Golf prides itself on a “Scandinavian mindset” that also focuses on functionality and access. Let’s look a little closer at those two attributes.

Obviously, golf equipment should be functional for every golfer with the perfect balance between beauty and performance. This is how Takomo Golf strives to create timeless, functional golf equipment.

As a DTC brand, Takomo Golf makes it a priority to provide worldwide access to their products and offers global shipping, Doesn’t get more accessible than that.

Direct to Consumer

Takomo Golf: A Snapshot

Takomo Golf offers six different iron set configurations and a wedge. Again, worldwide shipping is available for all their products and an international warranty is available in the country of usage.

This year, we will be testing their 301 CB in our Most Wanted Player’s Iron category.

Time Will Tell, Takomo

It is great to see DTC brands growing in the golf industry, giving golfers a chance to purchase products at a value price.

We’ve tested a lot of DTC manufacturers over the years. We’ve seen some stellar performances. Will Takomo Golf be the next? Time will tell.

If you’ve had experience with Takomo Golf, leave a comment below. We’d love to hear your feedback.

Went from a combo set of Srixon ZX5 (4-5-6) and ZX7 (7-8-9-PW) to these Takomo 101T`s and i completely love them, good forgiveness and great flight patterns as i was hitting the Srixon`s too high. Love the looks of them and bought them with the KBS Tour lite X stiff. Order came in 16 days total from the time i bought to my front door, I live in Ottawa, Canada. For the price these are awesome.

The customer service is absolutely awful. I ordered a set of the combo irons with standard shafts but larger grips. When I inquired when they were going to ship they indicated 6-10 weeks. That’s half of a golf season. Awful. I wanted to cancel the order but they have archaic policies so I cannot. Absolutely the worst buying experience I have ever had with golf equipment.

Takomo produces decent clubs. Had to wait 12 weeks to receive mine and in all that time I didn’t get a response to one email. Found out after their clubs are drop shipped out of Hong Kong. Doesn’t appear they actually do any of the work themselves.

I understand your reasoning. It’s logical to assume that Caley Golf, which appears quite similar, is also manufactured by the same company. Based on this information, I can conclude that there is a high probability that Kirkland’s irons will also be produced by a similar manufacturer.

I have the Takomo 201 irons, they are great irons. Love them. Just aim and swing. Very forgiving. Also loved the price for a set of forged irons. You can also choice from a large selection of shafts.

I bought a set of these heads and built them with some Fujikura shafts to fit my 26 year old daughter. She loves them and hits them 11/2 clubs longer and consistently. While I find the shaft and grip selection limited. A good club builder can make these a perfect fit for half the price of OEM comparable irons.

Good to hear, didn’t know this option was also possible. I don’t see that option with just a set of heads on the site. Sounds like a great option.

I would be cautious about any iron outside of North America. One size doesn’t fit all. I play the Cobra Speedzone 5-GW in UST Mamiya graphite shafts…and I managed my best score ever at my home course on the North 6. Now that’s already money in the bank for me. I don’t see any options to play to my specs in these irons…so I will say NO to these irons.

There is probably not one manufacturer that has lie and lofts perfect when custom ordered. My TM 790 were way off and so were my PXG 0311. PXG were bought on their PXG_Express site through eBay. They were off but with their email coupon, great price!

I’ve had 101 irons for most of this year. The more desirable T versions didn’t come out until mid-2022z Forgiving, a little lower traj with plenty of stopping power made me glad. The soft, forged like feel and beauty made me giddy. Best price in the industry. Only downside is 4 iron head flew off and customer service solution was to have KBS send a shaft. Most OEMs just replace the club. O well, even the Finns aren’t perfect, though their product is.

I own the 101s and have enjoyed playing with them. Takomowill sell heads only for those that have a specific shaft preference but I must say they look very much like sub 70 699s and the ram irons that are new this year can’t remember the model but there web site show them.. can they all be made by the same forge? manufacturer?

I’ve got the Takomo Iron 301 (MB and CB combo) in the bag since Christmas. I have to say, they compete easily with my friend’s MP4s and feel only a hair harder than my old Bridgestone J38CB. The ball flight is what I want it to be, the looks are great, the spin where I need it… And all that for 1/2 of the price of a comparable set from Mizuno, or other big names. Srixon might be the closest in price, still a good 30% more. I might not be equipment sensitive enough but I can’t feel or see any downside to playing these compared to comparable sets from well established companies… Plus, I don’t need a fitting or test, I know my specs!

I specifically looked at the Takomo 101 last year when shopping for new hollow-body irons. I eventually cut them because 1) non-forged face, 2) no tungsten weighting, 3) no graphite shaft options. But the price is incredible and they get good reviews. If what they offer is what you want then you may find them a great deal.

I bought the Takomo 101T model. Left a 7 iron at the range and someone kept it for themselves. Contacted Takomo by email 5 times on their website. Not a single reply about me buying a replacement. Looked in junk folder as well. Nothing. Everyone has similar stories. If you order a set of irons the chances of getting them in less than 8 weeks is iffy. Mine took 9.5 weeks and they have a canned response if you inquire about delivery. It says “Takomo will notify once shipped”. What will happen is they debit that credit card immediately though.

I like my irons but I would never buy from them again if they refuse to support the customer. Oh, and my order came in with a box that looked like a forklift had run through the box. No damage to the shafts or heads, only tear in 1 grip. I replaced the grip, notified Takomo of the damage with pictures. Their response was not Takomo’s fault. Pretty sure it wasn’t my shipper nor forklift driver LOL. Jeez, are all the Finnish companies like this?

I had the 201s and liked them, but was disappointed by a lack of after sales service when I bent the hosel on my 7 iron (tree root) and needed to replace it. Initially responsive without being able to commit definitively to replacing head/full club, and then radio silence despite a number of emails from me.

Hard to make any of these irons look that different. The simple clean lines, weight in the bottom and hollow body kinda dictate how they look. If Costco’s really come out a $55 a club like the wedges they will be hard to beat unless they are duds.
