Mizuno MP-59 Irons

There have been a lot of iron sets come and go through the doors of MyGolfSpy for testing over the past couple years.  But…one iron set has remained a constant in my bag this entire time….and that set of irons is the Mizuno MP-58’s.

So…of course one of the sticks I was most looking forward to testing this year was their replacement the Mizuno MP-59’s.  Well…speaking of the MP-59’s…a couple weeks ago I got a quick glance at what the set would look like and I have to admit I was intrigued.  And then these pics surfaced and sealed the deal.  The 58’s have had a long run in the bag…but these just might be the ones that give them the boot!

Yesterday Nov 30,2011, a tried to use MP 59 no 7 in driving range SCBD Jakarta Indonesia, the result is great, the impact is very soft, and the distance is more longer than MX25, the design is good.

I got a set with KBS Tour C Taper S+ shafts. The absolute best iron I have ever hit. Distance and ball flight were exactly what I was looking for. Performance and Looks, don’t know how Mizuno could do better.

      Hey Y’All
I just bought them, only because they were so awesome, looks fantastic from all angles, including address. Thin top line, thin bottom line, I feel like a pro playing with them, but the are sooooooooo easy to hit. Just came from the callaway prototypes. I hit both irons ok, just this one feels so good, sounds so good. And they are long long long, almost half a club longer than the Callaway Razr X Tour
Made in Japan, not China too!!! Won’t go wrong

First, Kyle, you gotta relax bro…Although you may be the penultimate player & know the Mizuno line backwards & forwards, these other readers have opinions & nothing was said/written that should cause such an adversarial/confrontational response….I’ve played Minuno for 26+ years, starting with a set of brand new Grand Monarch irons in 1985..The reason I state brand new is because these irons were released in1968 & this set was never hit and then given to my uncle by a Japanese business man…I swapped out my WS FG-17s and played them till ’88 when I got a set of TP-11s(Tour Proven) while in Europe(the same irons that Faldo won his first Masters, PGA & World Matchplay Championship with)…I also got a Vanguard driver(1986), the world’s first carbon headed driver, though I could’nt get used to the sound and “softer” feel and only played it for a few rounds…As I’ve written, I was playing the MP-67s when I had the opportunity to hit the Adams Pro Golds..I bagged the Pro Golds..I have played them for the past two seasons & my grooves are worn..I’ve been looking for a new set of Golds or a 9.5+ set on the computer…No luck..I’ve presently got my back-up set of MP-68s in the bag…Love ’em..I had the opportunity to hit the 59s @ a demo day..Incredible..For whatever reason(my mental/physical deficiencies?) I never warmed to the MP-58s though the 59s are phenomenal…I’m not going to rehash prior comments & I’m sure MGS will have them on their review list, though I will say that if you want less iron than the MP-53s(with comprable if not more forgiveness) and more iron than the MB 68s or 69s provide, these fill that gap beautifully…I’m going to combo my set with 59s 3-6i & 7-PW in the 68s…And Kyle, not everyone is a Muzunoid, myself included…I know It sucks, but you’ve gotta cut us some slack…The best to ya..Greens & Fairways 4ever….

I was fitted up for the 59’s last week – I have always played pings and have the 57s in the bag at the moment. The fitting was great and I ended up with the 59s with the project x 5.5. The ball flight and distance control was awesome ! solid but forgiving – look the same as the 69s from the top.

Coming off a timeless mizuno ms-11 blades that seemed not too different to present days blades eg the MP-69 (absolutely beautiful from the internet pix coz some retailers in Aust have yet to put it on display) but I was able to try out the MP-59s and I must say the control and feel is second to none, on a s300 shaft, the impact was truely remarkable, don’t take my word for it, go and test it out at your local proshop and let the club do the talking for you. Kudos to Mizuno. Do you guys know much about online cheapgolf4u.com whether it sells genuine stuff coz the prices are so much less, even by half? Cheers.

you have to be kidding me if you think the 58’s look better than these!.no comparison……….i have hit both and imo the 59 surpasses the 58 in every way possible with feel being the biggest improvement…….the 58’s felt like hitting rocks compared to these………the back, front and top are all way better………..just ordered a set and have the jpx 800 pro’s.owned the 57, 60, 53, 63…….

i think on some level to take advantage of new technologies chances need to be taken.
i for one like that mizuno has been more willing in recent years to do so.
i have played mp-30 irons since ’05 and will be making a purchase sometime between now and x-mas.
i have been leaning towards jpx pro’s but the 59’s have my attention and i will give them a fair shake.
for the record i went through 6 sets of irons before i hit the mp-30’s, i learned my lesson and will only play mizuno irons, period.

Got a chance to try a MP-59 6-iron with the KBS Tour shaft (!!!) yesterday. Saving my pennies, it was amazing. Forgiving, yet imparts precision; great Mizuno forged feel as always. Have auditioned many others but thinking this one’s the keeper; now have to find a full demo set to complete my evaluation…

I have a set of MP68 irons that are about a month old and are the epitome of what an iron should be. Easy to hit, easy to shape the shot, and there is a feeling like no other when struck properly. MIZUNO cannot do better than that…and I know the exact yardage that the ball will fly…roll depends on conditions. Even the new “conforming”: groves will back the ball up on the greens if struck properly.

I am still hitting MP32s and need to start thinking about making the switch to something easier to hit. It may be hard to give up the extra distance and the shot shaping I get from the older clubs.

Really glad I have my MP-58’s, a prettier looking club than its replacement. However, those 69’s, well that is an entirely different kettle of fish. Time to get to work on better ball striking, and move up to the 69’s .

They look like something Nike would have put out, that weird looking huge muscleback reminds me of the SQ Machspeed Forged irons.

Regardless, I’m going to give them a thorough demo, because I love Mizunos. Still have the MP-33 and MP-62 in my rotation along with Nike VR Splits, and Titleist 710CBs. I’m a proud club ho.

Digging it. It’s good to see Mizzy actually have some innovation other than shuffling around the same stuff every few years and call it classic because that’s just lazy. I think they really have something here using titanium as “insert” instead of rubber. it makes the perimeter weighting better but still meaty in the center when you hit it.

Wow, badass! Titleist copied older Mizunos to their new ones, but these are fresh!

How about Face Progression in these ones?

The design is almost crossing over into JPX range, looking a little too game improvement. At the end of the day its all about performance, but I agree with Matt when I say its not quite as timeless.

I may have to buy the MP-69s just for laughs.

You guys have no idea what your talking about. What cavity looks timeless? You think that Mizuno will keep coming out with the same exact clubs every year? You guys are stupid.

Hmmm…not what I was expecting or hoping for. Obviously it’s only a cavity picture, but it lacks that “timeless” look that most of the MP series has. But, of course, if it works no one will care.

Will this become the most forgiving of the MP series? Looks like there’s a lot of weight at the bottom of the club.

GS Matt: From reading through this article I clicked on a “link” within the write-up that took me to an older review of the MP58 iron that I never knew existed on this site before and I have been an avid reader for many months reading through most of the header links in their entirety. Most of your “reviews” that I can access from above only appear to go back to the late 2010 timeframe. How can I access reviews and articles that go back in your archieves? I especially liked the link to the “35 kick ass iron review” in 2008 that I stumbled across within the MP58 comments section. I cannot seem to locate these on the “review” header above. Any help would be appreciated……..David

      David,
The Mizuno MP-58 review is now in the Review>Iron section…however this set was reviewed prior to our “Ultimate Review” scoring system. Many of the other articles that you might have missed might fall under the Categories>Uncategorized section. Take a look there…I think you might find some interesting articles to read.

      Hope that helps David ;)

The mp-59 irons are amazing. They made the 59’s harmonics better than then the 58’s, or the 62’s. The 59’s top line and sole are almost identical to the 68. The 59 is a lot easier to hit. They feel so much better than the 58. I think your expectations suck then, because you obviously don’t know what you’re talking about. There is a lot of weight on the bottom and out on the perimeter. That is what makes the iron so great. If you want a hard club to hit then get, then get the 69.

Matt, having played the 53s & I just played my 4th round with the 59s, I would say that the 53s are still the most forgiving MP iron…Compared to the 58s(which I didn’t like @ all…I know it’s me, not the iron, though they did nothing for me), these sound & feel soooo much better, & while I find them more forgiving than the 58s, if you’re looking for forgiveness, the 53s are your sticks…The best to ya…Greens & Fairways 4ever…..
