Amazon Finds: Club Scrub

Clean equipment is critical to consistent performance. Maintaining clean golf clubs and golf balls can be a challenge with brushes, towels or even our previously reviewed golf erasers. Is there a better way? Club Scrub thinks so and feels their product is the one and only thing you need to maintain clean golf equipment on the course. Should it be on your wish list?

The Problem:

As alluded to above, maintaining clean and dry equipment is crucial to getting the most consistent performance out of your gear. Dirty and/or wet golf balls or clubs result in significant performance loss and add to what can sometimes be an already frustrating sport. Using towels and brushes is the traditional method but still leaves a little to be desired as they also get dirty along with being a multi-stage process. The Golf Erasers we tried are another method although I found them next to useless. Is there a better product or method?

The Solution:

Club Scrub claims to have broken the code to clean golf equipment. This little pouch fills with water, is waterproof and includes a soft neoprene covering for wiping off the water after the golf ball or club is cleaned. With a built-in clip to attach to a bag or cart, the functionality certainly seems to be there.

How I Found It:

It has been a particularly wet and muddy start to my golfing season. My clubs have picked up a lot more debris than usual and it’s been a struggle to keep golf balls clean. I searched for a solution that was better than my traditional towel and brush method. A MGS Forum member, knotthead12, made an unofficial review on his Club Scrub and had an overall good experience with it. So I thought it was worth a shot and headed to Amazon. Club Scrub has 500-plus reviews with a 4.8-star rating out of 5. My expectations were high.

How It Worked:

Even though all the reviews were positive, I was a bit skeptical. I still felt that it was more gimmick than something I would actually use. Let’s start with how it works and the good aspects I found while using the Club Scrub cleaner. 

It claims to be waterproof, allowing golfers to play full rounds without water leaking or seeping through. This claim held up. I have gone through several 18-hole rounds with no leaking. Granted, I did not put a lot of water into the pouch, only enough to get the job done. Still, this aspect was certainly an immediate success. 

Next was the outside cleaning neoprene portion of the pouch. I would give this a solid passing grade. It does absorb some of the water, which is good, so in the case of dirt or a lot of cleaning, it did get marked up. I had to be a little cautious of where I was wiping off the wet golf gear. There were a few times I had to resort to my towel to make sure the gear was fully dry.

Functionality

The built-in clip is very useful and easy to install and remove. The interior material is not abrasive but what I would describe as “pokey.” It does an excellent job of clearing off mud, dirt and debris. I even had a wedge that had mud caked on for a week or longer and tried the Club Scrub on it to see how well it would work. It took only seconds to fully clean. I was starting to become a believer.

Area For Improvement

It was not all positive. While easy to clean after a round by simply turning inside-out and washing under a faucet or tap, there was always a little remaining dirty water in the bottom. Club Scrub say it is machine washable so maybe this is the better method. 

The other slight issue I ran into was that, when the course was very muddy, the larger clumps of mud stuck to the inside. This made cleaning clubs afterward less effective. They still got cleaned but I needed my towel to wipe them down after. 

Bottom Line:

This product works effectively with very few drawbacks. The price may be a little high for some but, when considering the cost of a good towel and brush, it about levels out. The Club Brush works as it claims and cleans clubs mid-round or after sitting for weeks with mud caked on with relative ease. 

I don’t love the cleaning method as there can sometimes be leftover dirty water trapped inside. It is only a minor complaint I can live with. I would recommend having a towel handy, even if just for backup. The brush has been ditched and I am able to use the Club Scrub as a core product for the foreseeable future.
