The Problem

Golf equipment, whether it be shoes, golf balls or clubs, gets dirty constantly and cleaning all of them all the time can be a tedious task. Some golfers use brushes, others use towels and many use both. Even when using a golf club brush and towel, dirt can stay on equipment and then,  to top it all off, the towel and golf club brush need to be cleaned! Surely there must be better, simpler golf club cleaners that will get the job done without the hassle of towels, brushes and buckets. 

The Solution

Golf Erasers!  The golf club cleaner for cleaning golf shoes, golf balls, and most importantly, your golf clubs. A convenient all-in-one item with the only addition needed being a fluid to activate the cleaning magic. The Golf Eraser golf club cleaner attaches to your bag and is easily detachable with spares to ensure you are set between shots and after the round.

How I Found It

Having clean clubs and clean golf balls is a must for me. Whether it is in between shots or after the round, I always clean my clubs with a golf club brush and towel. I play in all conditions and far too often my towel gets dirty and wet which then transfers to my hands, clubs and even golf balls. In search of a solution, I was tipped off about Golf Erasers instant cleaners. So off to Amazon I went and found the last pack available for $20. With the click of a button, they were ordered and at my door in less than 24 hours. 

How it worked (and didn’t)

The Golf Eraser  came in a nice package with a clip for attaching to your bag. Putting them onto the tag was simple but I did notice a few of the pads cracked a bit when putting onto the bag tag. However, it does say on the box “must be wet to work” soI would advise wetting them before putting onto the tag to avoid this. 

The Golf Erasers themselves are pretty simple. As a golf club cleaner they are two-sided pads with a rougher green side for scrubbing away larger chunks of dirt, grass and sand. The white side with dimples is for wiping away the remaining dirt. It is a very simple design but it is effective. With six pads included in the pack and the fact they are easily cleaned and activated with water, these certainly have immediate potential out of the box. 

Here is what works with the Golf Erasers golf club cleaners. As a sponge-type pad, they are effective in getting loose dirt and grit off clubs, golf balls and shoes. They absorb a lot of water, which is nice as they need to be wet to be effective. The bag tag is brilliant for storage and easy access during rounds and storing afterwards. 

This is a great item for cleaning off shoes after a round! I loved them for cleaning off my shoes and not having the dirt and grass transfer off the shoes and into the back of my car. Same goes for golf balls. They are excellent for cleaning and removing even tougher dirt on the balls, making sure they are clean for each shot when you are allowed to pick up and clean the ball.

However, there are some areas where these do not perform for me. 

Because they need to be wet to be activated, obviously you need water. I carry or walk and drink a lot of water. Unless there are bathrooms or water stations at the course you are playing, you may need another water bottle just to wet these.

Because they are pretty small and retain a lot of dirt, they should be cleaned or wrung out after each use. This means more water is required and that then gets on your hands, clubs and golf balls so a towel is still required to dry the whatever item you use the Golf Eraser on. 

The clubs and golf balls are easy enough to dry but having to dry hands after each time I clean my clubs or golf balls? Not ideal. 

The pad got really dirty very quickly today and the course was dry. I could only imagine on a wet or muddy day how many of these would be needed for a round. In addition, the grooves on the clubs were not fully cleared of dirt after using the Golf Eraser. It was excellent at removing surface material but grooves? Not so much.

Let’s talk about longevity. This morning, I played 18 and for the first six holes with the morning dew I used my usual towel and golf club brush. On the remaining 12 holes, I used the Golf Eraser and my clubs were significantly dirtier, not to mention more work was required to clean clubs with the Golf Eraser. By the end of the round, the white portion of the Golf Eraser was not very white and, while it still functioned, I didn’t enjoy using each pad for more than a couple of rounds.

Bottom Line

In retrospect, I am not quite sure what I was thinking when I bought these. 

While they have a bit more tech than a standard kitchen sponge, that is essentially all this is. They don’t clean clubs very well unless a lot of water is used and then, if you do use a lot of water, you are essentially just washing the clubs which can be done with a kitchen sponge for a lot less.

For golf clubs, this product is a no-go. The standard golf club brush and towel work far better and give you a better overall clean with less transfer of dirt and having to constantly dry your hands. 

For shoes and golf balls, the Golf Eraser gets a solid thumb’s up. I preferred the Golf Eraser to a towel for golf balls and it cleaned my shoes up nicely at the end of the round to ensure no grass was transferred into my car. 

All in all, the Golf Eraser was not what I was expecting and while it has some uses, if you are a golfer who wants clean clubs all the time stick to a brush and towel.
