I recently tried these wedges out and I can tell you that they spin the ball about the same as similar wedges with these type of box grooves, which is a lot! The laser etched micro grooves give them a slightly rougher texture, but eventually this will wear off. Either way, the CG15 wedges are a very solid wedge, and worth a try if you are in the market! The Oil Quenched finish is beautiful, taking on a dark burgundy metallic color…

I agree John I hit them a while ago and it is just a marketing pitch…I was not on monitors when I tested but spin seemed simiar to every other wedge pushing the limits of the wedge limitations. But they do look sharp.

Great looking wedge! Simple, classic shape but with sophisticated face/groove technology. It looks like full shots will chew the cover right off a premium ball though as evidenced by that shot of the face. Is that bits of ball those grooves are full of? Good luck making a ball last more than 18 holes.

Well I think it looks sharp but I don’t see this creating more spin then many of the other groove technology. But I do like the looks.

Hey guys, I did a quick writeup with product photos of these new wedges on my site if anyone is interested. Link is below. Feel free to use the pictures to update this post, there’s a good closeup of the new “Laser Etched” grooves they are introducing on these wedges. I’m looking forward to testing them out! Cheers!

Do you think any of these wdges – the Cg12, the CG14 or the CG15 – are any better than, or even as good as, the CG10?

All the CG series wedges are good clubs in my opinion. The new CG15s are every bit as good or better than the previous models. I still have my trusty old 588 lob wedge, but I’ll be upgrading to a CG15 LW soon. I love the look of the new Oil Quenched finish, and the zip grooves can really spin it with the right technique. Personally, I think anyone that takes the game seriously realizes that the short game is where you score. As such, you should get new wedges every 2 seasons at least. Many good players and pros switch every season at a minimum.

Wow looks like they just stamped a 5 where the 2 should be on the cg12. Where’s the innovation like in the cg14??

The face is the only change Spanky.

It does have a softer feel than the CG12…different mix of materials and doesn’t rust

Not a lot of change. Like Parker I really like the vertical lettering on the face. Something different that makes it stand out. It is hard to tell from the third picture if the sole is beveled or if a sliver is cut from the back.

Parker and CJ must have really big monitors I had to sharpen the image in Photoshop just to read ‘laser milled’. Are these just updated 12’s with new conforming groves?
Parker

I kind of dig the vertical lettering on the outside of the grooves. But I agree with Chris. Looks pretty darn similar to the CG12’s.

I do too Parker. It frames the ball nicely at address.

Any insight into how they changed their grooves? I have to assume if they’re not being released until November that they’ve used the NEW grooves. Looks like some sort of micro-milling on the face, but I’m not sure. Otherwise, it looks remarkably similar to the CG12…….. looks like a secondary grind for some sole relieft… could be a custom wedge? I’ve never been a fan of cleveland wedges, I like a straighter leading edge on all my clubs. Clevfelands tend to be very round, like this one. Oh well… I’m sure it’s a good wedge. Just wondering what Clieveland’s way of milling grooves was now that the rules have changed.

These have the non-conforming grooves that can be SOLD until the end of 2010. They just have to be introduced prior to the end of the year. Besides, odds are real good that most of us can use these legally until “at least” 2014.

Hey folks don’t be fooled by this new groove rule. It applies to Pros and US Ametuer players. Us plain old hackers will continue to use the “zip” groove technology until at least 2024.
It would be really stupid for the USGA to make it HARDER for hackers to play, ulitimately making them give up the game. So don’t worry we will still have our ‘drop and stop’ grooves for a long time.

Yes the faces are laser milled which creates a different pattern then lets say the Spin Milled Titleist wedges. Those create a circular pattern where this creates a horizontal pattern. And actually could be done in any pattern they want to try. It is very similar to the CG12 other then the face.

I have the 60 degree oil quench DSG. I bought it earlier this year. After two one hours practice sessions to get used to the wedge and only a couple rounds the laser etched grooves have COMPLETELY worn out along the bottom of the face and at the sweat spot.
