Comparing Golf Pride Grips (Which Model Is Right for You?)

If you’ve played golf for a while, chances are you’ve had a Golf Pride grip on your clubs at some point. Golf Pride makes a ton of different grips which is both a good and bad thing. Sometimes when a brand offers this many options, it can get overwhelming. So we broke it down for you with a look at the most popular Golf Pride grips and who should (and shouldn’t) be using each one.

Tour Velvet Series

The Tour Velvet series is Golf Pride’s most widely played line of grips. It is made with a uniform rubber compound that offers a secure feel without being overly firm. Tour Velvet grips have a traditional shape but are offered in a variety of styles.

  • Tour Velvet: The standard Tour Velvet offers reliable all-weather traction and a uniform surface texture.
  • Tour Velvet 360: A logo-free version.
  • Tour Velvet Plus4: Features a larger lower-hand diameter to reduce tension and simulate four extra wraps of tape.
  • Tour Velvet ALIGN (and ALIGN Tack): Adds a raised ridge on the back to help with consistent hand placement and clubface alignment.
  • Tour Velvet Cord: Full-cord version for maximum traction and control.
  • Tour Velvet Lite: A lightweight version of the standard Tour Velvet designed to reduce overall club weight.
  • Tour Velvet Soft (and Soft Tack): A softer version of the classic design with enhanced tackiness.

âś… Who should buy

  • Golfers who want a classic, proven grip that works in all conditions
  • Players looking for a balanced feel, not too soft, not too firm
  • Suitable for nearly all skill levels and swing types

❌ Who should skip

  • Golfers who want maximum softness for shock absorption
  • Players who prefer ultra-firm, heavily textured grips with full cord

MCC Series

The MCC (MultiCompound) series is Golf Pride’s best-selling hybrid grip line. These grips blend a firm corded upper section with a soft rubber lower section. The MCC style grip allows you to maintain control with the lead hand while the lower hand provides feel and comfort.

MCC grips are especially popular among better players because it’s the perfect middle ground between a cord grip and a traditional softer rubber grip.

  • MCC: The original half-cord grip combining a corded upper hand with a softer rubber lower half.
  • MCC ALIGN: Same hybrid construction as the MCC but with a raised ridge along the back.
  • MCC Plus4: Features a larger lower-hand diameter.
  • MCC Plus4 ALIGN: Combines the larger lower hand of the Plus4 with ALIGN technology.
  • MCC ALIGN MAX: Incorporates a larger and more pronounced ALIGN ridge for golfers who want even stronger tactile feedback.
  • MCC Plus4 ALIGN MAX: Both a thicker lower hand and the more pronounced ALIGN MAX ridge.

âś… Who should buy

  • Golfers who want a blend of control (cord) and comfort (rubber)
  • Those who play in varied weather

❌ Who should skip

  • Golfers with very sensitive hands or who dislike any cord texture
  • Players who want a full rubber feel like CP2 or CPX

CP2 Series

The CP2 series is designed for golfers who want comfort and shock absorption. It has a soft rubber compound and an internal Control Core stabilizer to reduce torque. The lower hand is slightly larger than standard.

  • CP2 Pro: A soft, tacky all-rubber grip with a traditional texture for maximum comfort and reduced torque.
  • CP2 Wrap: Features the same soft rubber and Control Core as the CP2 Pro but with a wrap-style texture for a more classic look and added tackiness.

âś… Who should buy

  • Golfers who want maximum comfort and shock absorption
  • Players with hand pain, arthritis or grip pressure issues

❌ Who should skip

  • Golfers who want more control or responsiveness at impact
  • High-swing-speed players concerned about long-term durability

ZGRIP Series

The ZGRIP series is Golf Pride’s firmest grip. It’s made with a full-cord construction and a distinctive Z-shaped texture pattern. ZGRIP grips are ideal for players who demand shot feedback and aren’t afraid of a firmer, more abrasive feel.

  • ZGRIP Cord: Golf Pride’s firmest full-cord grip with aggressive texture and maximum feedback.
  • ZGRIP Cord ALIGN: Same performance and cord texture as the ZGRIP Cord, with a raised ALIGN ridge.
  • ZGRIP Plus2: An all-rubber version with a larger lower hand profile.

âś… Who should buy

  • Golfers who want maximum control and firm, responsive feedback
  • Players with fast swing speeds who need stability under pressure

❌ Who should skip

  • Players who prefer soft, cushioned or more forgiving grips
  • Golfers with sensitive hands or those playing without gloves

Additional options

Golf Pride CPX grips

In addition to the main series of grips above, there are additional options from Golf Pride that don’t have a full series. These include:

  • CPX: A soft, textured grip with a Plus4 profile and raised diamond pattern for maximum comfort and light grip pressure.
  • Tour Wrap: A tacky, wrap-style grip with a smooth, high-gloss surface with a classic look.
  • V55 Cord: With a modern Tour Velvet feel and a retro Victory look, the V55 blends classic design with reliable performance for the better player.

Totally agree, Tom S. For me, the best grip Golf Pride makes is, and always has been, the Tour Wrap.

I would encourage anyone to try holding some different grips. I have small hands, but the midsize driver grip feels so much more comfortable and natural. If I hadn’t tried it at the store, I never would have considered it.

No dount, I went to midsize and it really helped, especially with my pull hook on my drivers and irons, I would like to see GP make the Align Max in a Tour Velvet now.

Part of me wants to try a jumbo grip but I didn’t like it in a putter so have doubts I will like it in club grip.

Funny you mention that. They had a jumbo grip on display so I grabbed it, and it almost felt like holding the fat end of a baseball bat. A little too much for me.
