There’s something interesting about comparing test data to sales data. We can tell you which fairway woods perform best in testing but that doesn’t necessarily tell us what golfers are putting in their bags.
We’ve made this comparison with other equipment categories in 2026 and now we’re moving on to fairway woods.
Our 2026 fairway wood test was led by the Mizuno JPX One and Callaway Quantum Max D, both with an 8.9 MGS Score. TaylorMade’s Qi4D was right behind them at 8.8.
Then we compared those results with PGA TOUR Superstore’s best-selling fairway wood data.
The very top of the 2026 test doesn’t match the sales list
The Mizuno JPX One and Callaway Quantum Max D led our 2026 fairway wood test with 8.9 MGS Scores. Neither appears in PGA TOUR Superstore’s best-selling fairway wood data.
The TaylorMade Qi4D does. It finished third in our 2026 test with an 8.8 MGS Score, including a 9.2 for distance.
That makes the Qi4D one of the clearest examples of strong 2026 test performance lining up with what golfers are buying.
| Best sellers + strong test results | Best sellers that finished lower in testing | Top 2026 performers not on the sales list |
|---|---|---|
| TaylorMade Qi4D: 3rd, 2026 | Callaway Quantum Max: 10th, 2026 | Mizuno JPX One: 1st, 2026 |
| PING G440 Max: 1st, 2025 | Titleist GTS2: 18th, 2026 | Callaway Quantum Max D: 2nd, 2026 |
| PING G430 Max: 12th, 2024 | ||
| Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Max: 21st, 2024 |
The Quantum Max tells a different story
The Callaway Quantum Max shows up prominently in PGA TOUR Superstore’s best-selling fairway wood data but it finished 10th overall in our 2026 test with an 8.5 MGS Score.
When I dug a little deeper into the data, it was easy to see how this happened.
The Quantum Max earned a 9.2 distance score, finished second in total distance and produced the highest average ball speed in the test. Its 8.1 accuracy and 7.8 forgiveness scores kept it from finishing higher overall.
So while it wasn’t one of our best overall performers, it was one of the best if distance was the priority. That may help explain why it’s showing up so strongly in the sales data. Golfers love those extra yards.
The most interesting match may be from 2025
This is where the sales data gets more interesting and it’s something I’ve noticed quite a bit in 2026. Golfers have no trouble putting an older club in the bag right now, especially when the price makes sense.
The PING G440 Max is one of the best-selling fairway woods in PGA TOUR Superstore’s data and it also happened to win our 2025 fairway wood test.
It earned an 8.9 MGS Score with an 8.8 for accuracy, 9.0 for distance and 8.8 for forgiveness. It didn’t dominate one category. It was just consistently strong across all three. The G440 Max still has plenty of appeal even though it’s not a brand-new model.
And the G440 Max isn’t the only older model selling
PING’s G430 Max also appears among the best sellers. In our 2023 testing, it finished 10th overall and was particularly strong for accuracy and forgiveness.
The Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Max is another older model appearing in the sales data but this one gives us the opposite result. It finished 21st overall in our 2024 test.
There are even TaylorMade SIM2 Max fairway woods on the list, a product family that dates back several generations.

There’s a lot of “Max” in the sales data
There’s one other part of the PGA TOUR Superstore list that is hard to miss.
PING G440 Max. PING G430 Max. Callaway Quantum Max. Paradym Ai Smoke Max. TaylorMade Qi4D Max. TaylorMade SIM2 Max.
That doesn’t mean putting “Max” on a fairway wood makes it perform better. Our testing certainly doesn’t support that conclusion across the board.
What it does show is that many of the fairway woods showing up in the sales data are the more broadly targeted models within an equipment lineup rather than the lower-spinning or Tour-focused alternatives.
The TaylorMade Qi4D Tour, for example, was our best fairway wood for distance in 2026 but does not appear in the top sellers. The standard Qi4D does.
That makes sense for fairway woods where most golfers are looking for enough launch and forgiveness to make a difficult club easier to use. Getting some extra distance mixed in is also a positive.
Are golfers buying the best-performing fairway woods?
Sometimes. There is some overlap but the Mizuno and the Callaway Quantum Max D aren’t getting the attention they should be based on their test results. The TaylorMade Qi4D is the strongest example from 2026. It finished third in our testing and also shows up in PGA TOUR Superstore’s sales data.
Test data can tell you which clubs perform. Sales data tells us what golfers are choosing. What fairway wood did you end up with this year?
