First Look – Toulon Design Memphis Mallet

A couple weeks back we introduced you to Toulon Design putters. Today we’re giving you a fresh off the mill, first look at the company’s upcoming Memphis Mallet. Expected to be available in April, here’s how the company describes the Memphis.

The city of Memphis is the name of our unique multi-material mallet. Nicknamed “Soulsville U.S.A.”, the city is known for its unique soul music, charming character, and vivacious culture. We used the general spirit of this city as the inspiration for this putter, which is itself uniquely soulful and magnetically charming.

The Memphis has been painstakingly engineered to create incredible feel and greater forgiveness. Its multi-material design featuring a dual component sole plate, combined with soft and flowing shoulders, makes this one destined to become an instant classic. Its single bend full offset shaft design yields the company’s lone face balanced putter for 2016. It is complemented by a simple, single center cavity sightline.

Toulon Designs is most definitely one to new companies to watch in 2016. Founder, and former TaylorMade EVP, Sean Toulon is as well-connected in the industry, and that alone makes breaking-through a bit easier than it would be for your average bear.

Despite officially launching less than 2 weeks ago, we’re told at least 2 PGA Tour Professionals are expected to have Toulon putters in the bag very soon (probably by the end of this month). The tour staff is expected to eventually settle in between 8 and 12 guys.

      It’s easier than that. Just copy Ping and charge more than Scotty. ( to infer by that you are better.) And hope every body falls for it.

      I suppose just a bit. Toulon’s putters have interchangeable sole plates to achieve the desired weight in any model. There’s a compelling fitting story here that you’ll hear more about before too long.

      The short version is that unlike most off-the-rack putters, you can effectively mix and match heads and hosels. In most lineups, for example, you might like the shape of the head, but you might not like the plumbers neck it was designed with. With Sean’s putters you’ll be able to choose the head and hosel combo that both suits your eye and performs best for your stroke.

      Couple that with some really cool plans around custom headcovers, and you have the beginning of what could help Toulon Design separate itself from the pack.

      Been waiting for this one. After first seeing the Madison, I wasn’t overly impressed with Toulon, but their putters have really grown on me. I dig the simple and straight forward lines.
      According to their videos, the diamond mill pattern with the dot in the middle helps grab the ball to promote an earlier forward roll. I wonder if you increase to a heavier bottom plate from their standard (based on length) if it will impact roll?

      Step 1: be better than Scotty, Odyssey and Ping
      Step 2: be cheaper than Scotty, Odyssey and Ping
      Step 3: spend millions marketing both those facts

      MannKrafted and Gnead are good-looking putters, but as you say, they haven’t got nearly the amount of $$$ to tell enough people.
