SPOTTED: Kirkland Signature Adjustable Driver

Days after the anticipated release of the Kirkland Signature Irons, the new Kirkland Signature Adjustable Driver just hit Costco.com

Priced to move ($199), the Kirkland Signature Adjustable Driver, as the name suggests, features an 10.5 degree head with an adjustable hosel. Can this driver take the crown as the undisputed value champ?

Here’s what you need to know about what could be the best deal in golf.

  • Right handed only
  • True Temper EvenFlow Riptide Graphite Shaft (Stiff and Regular Flex)
  • Lamkin Crossline 360 Grip
  • 10.5 Degree Loft (Loft settings: 9.5, 10.5, 10.5 Draw, 11.5)
  • Includes Headcover and Wrench
  • Multi-material construction

What We Know About the Kirkland Signature Adjustable Driver

I’ll be honest, we won’t know a whole lot about performance (backspin, max distance, feel etc.) until we get this baby in hand (don’t worry, it’s on the way). That said, there are a few things we can infer (and predict) based on the product photos.

Multi-Material Construction

The Kirkland Signature Driver features multi-material construction. It has a carbon composite crown, titanium sole and a titanium face with variable face thickness (fairly standard overall).

Back Weighting

The Kirkland Signature Driver features one weight port in the back, which should promote high launch and higher MOI overall. You’ve probably seen this specific EvenFlow Riptide Shaft before, too. Does the Callaway Mavrik ring a bell?

Adjustability

While the Kirkland Signature Driver comes only in a 10.5 degree loft, the adjustable hosel will provide you with some ability to dial in your launch. With 4 different settings, including a draw-biased setting, it’s highly impressive that Costco was able to offer adjustability at the draw-dropping price point.

Déjà Vu

Does it look a little familiar? In my mind the Kirkland Signature Driver is reminiscent of the similarly priced 2021 PXG 0211 Driver. Maybe it’s a little more Titleist than PXG. Who am I to say?

In any case, the weight placement, coupled with the loft sleeve adjustments should make this driver suitable for the budding golfer. (and for just $199, why the heck not?)

Testing Coming Soon

We’ve got a couple of these beauties on the way to HQ. In any case, you’ll be the first to know the results of those golf shots.

As soon as we’ve got performance data to share, we will. But know this: at less than $200, the Kirkland Signature Adjustable Driver will no doubt compete for the “Best Value” superlative in our 2024 Most Wanted Driver Testing.

Not sure how much of an effect this will have on any other suppliers. The putter and wedges were never re-run so it was the one batch and done. If they do the same with the irons and driver, it’ll be a blip like the others. The only thing they seem to re-run is the balls, probably because that is where the profit margin is. Current ebay sales(not listing price) prices for the used putters is $50-80 and the wedges $25-50. So it’s not like they hold their value better than other clubs.

Costco is knocking it out of the park. If they could put out a better ball I would rally around a Korn Ferry player who goes full Costco bag equipment.

When do you think you will start producing LEFT HANDED drivers and irons???

I’m an avid golfer and upgrade things like wedges and putters as to my liking, but Golf is returning to be a rich man’s sport again, Why do all these name brand companies have to be so greedy. If Kirkland can do it as with their golf balls and the new clubs, why can’t the major brands?

Already going for 400 on ebay. So stupid. In a year used ones will be $99.

I want to see it cut open, and see what sort of copycat construction and/or total lack of engineering is going on inside.

The significance of this driver isn’t performance, but price. From a performance standpoint, if it hits somewhat “just as good” as the main brands, then it will be a success, but this is really about how Costco and some of these other DTC golf brands are doing us a big favor. Have SOME costs gone up over the last few years? Yes… but irons that cost $500 a few years ago from big brands shouldn’t cost $1,200 today. That’s just pushing things too far. That new TM driver is supposed to retail at $650 and Costco can source a carbon driver that retails for $200 and TM sells theirs for over 3X that price??

I would be more sympathetic to the US big brands if they did all their manufacturing here in the states, but they are sourcing their product from asia… which I’m sure where Costco is doing the same. The covid-new club sales boom is over and sales are good but not like it was in 2021 so hopefully, 2024 causes these companies to rethink their pricing strategy before they lose too much business to costco and takomo and other DTC brands.

Agree, however the main brands put a lot of bucks into R&D and marketing. Costco takes existing tech (or someone’s excess capacity to rebrand) and does not pay a dime for marketing. Hence the price differential. Also consider that the main brands are generally publicly traded and very niche companies – got to “pay” their investors. A financial planner would likely tell most golfers to buy second or third generation tech (I bought a 2021 Ping driver and its great) or buy Costco/DTC.

I have been having e-mail conversations with something called the Golf Foundation for about 3-5 years now. My major complaint about what is wrong with golf in general starts with the greed-based
cost of clubs ( i.e., $4,600 for Homas, not including the driver) WTF are these guys drinking??? Next my favorite
second choice is the cost of country club golfing privileges (i.e., call PGA Resort and ask what a membership cost). I’m not certain but it is more than several CCs on L.I.

What does the loft sleeve look like? is it a Callaway sleeve or PXG or Titleist or is it Kirkland’s own design?

The shaft sleeve is exactly my question. If it’s not proprietary, then who’s is it? Could other existing shafts be mated to the Costco driver head?

If you are only spending $199 for a Costco driver, then swapping out the shaft should not be a major concern. It’s a price point driver

Its their own design. I already have put a ventus black 6x in it haha

@scott – not relevant. Let’s say this head just really works for some people but you need to bring spin down. If I can put a 77 gram x stiff low launch/spin shaft in easily, then $200 is a bargain. I have a feeling the head is going to perform much better than people think. Carbon composite is carbon composite and titanium is titanium. This could be huge. I love that they’re undercutting the market. #makegolfaffordable

$199 for a solidly specked out driver? That’s value.

$1,000 for a full 14 club Costco bag.

      Impressive.
