Spotted: Kirkland Signature Players Distance Irons

Kirkland Signature Players Distance Irons are officially here. Or, at least, they were available for a sliver of time.

By our reasoning, the irons SOLD OUT by 1pm EST. Are you surprised? I didn’t think so. For $499, they weren’t going to last long. Plus, it is Kirkland Signature. They’re on the map.

Kirkland Signature Irons

What You Need To Know

Earlier in the year, first generation Kirkland Signature irons were spotted on the USGA’s conforming list. Golf enthusiasts were giddy and so were we. Needless to say, Saturday morning rang the bells of Christmas a few weeks early. Here is a breakdown of the new Kirkland Signature Players Distance Irons:

Kirkland Irons, 7 Piece set

FEATURES

  • $499
  • Only Available in Right Hand
  • True Temper Elevate 115g Steel Shaft
  • Lamkin Crossline 360 Grip
  • 7 piece set; 4-9 iron and Pitching Wedge
  • Regular and Stiff Flex

TECHNOLOGY & DESIGN

Kirkland Signature Players Distance Irons feature a multi-material construction – stainless steel body, injected urethane insert, and an internal tungsten weight.

Kirkland signature irons distance, forgiveness, playability

Does this construction ring any bells? It is common, albeit, there are subtle differences in design concepts to the likes of TaylorMade P790s, Mizuno Pro 225s, PING i500s, etc. You get the picture. The Kirkland Signature Irons offer the ideal blend of distance, forgiveness, and playability.

Gone In A Flash

Golfers everywhere were anticipating Costco to release these irons. It was just a matter of “when”. Much to Costco’s credit, they are a tight lipped machine. A Saturday morning text, a post on X (I almost said “tweet”), or a post on Instagram were the only means of knowing about this release.

And, if you didn’t see any of those communications, you were SOL. Did you want a new set of irons for Christmas? Unlikely to happen now since the irons were gone in a flash.

As to when the Kirkland Signature Players Distance Irons will be back in stock, your answer is as good as ours. Stay tuned.

Testing Coming Soon

While we don’t have the Kirkland Signature Players Irons in hand quite yet, you’ll be the first to know when we do. And when we do, we’ll provide the full report on whether or not the newest sticks from Costco are worth your cash.

Looks somewhat like the Giga Golf Pursuit M410 which comes in at the same price

It cracks me up on how many people seem to be experts on these irons without even seeing them , let alone swinging them. I guess some people just like to bash. Personally I have played the wedges and I think they were a great set. They are marketing to a completely different demographic than most manufactures are.
I for one think they look great and would love to give them a few swings.

They look okay but seem to definitely have a more budget look to them. However, if they look good behind the ball and perform okay, that’s what matters. They certainly appear to be on the chunkier GI side of the iron spectrum. I’ll be curious to see the lofts since you can’t buy a matching gap wedge as of now. $499 is a little expensive IMO since you can get a set made to custom specs from Golfworks for about the same for similar, if not better, irons. I think these would be a homerun at $399.

The Elevate shafts aren’t bad. Bending +/-2* shouldn’t be an issue based on what I see but we’ll have to see what real world results are.

Overall, I think these irons are good for the golf industry. I hope they perform well. If Costco can get these in great volumes, they could really put some pressure on the industry. My only fear is that these won’t put any pressure on traditional OEMs and will really put the clamps on some of the smaller companies.

These aren’t anything special. 431 Stainless, commercial Elevate (aka Non-Tour) shafts, and likely an open foundry design the same as the SMT 579 and Sub70 699 v2. Likely from Xiamen Jasde golf.

TAKOMO opened the door, with more choice and more options…but it’s an European brand :-)

I think the best bargain is the Cobra King Tour MIM irons which were discounted to $599 at most retailers and to $499 at Maple Hill Golf.

Plus, any of the Maltby irons at the Golf Works are a tremendous bargain.

$ tip – The regular membership costs $60. It has no perks other than letting you shop in the store. The executive membership costs $120. That’s only $60 more per year, and you get 2% cash back on everything you buy in the store. (Gasoline at their pumps does not get 2% back)
If you live close enough to a Costco to buy just $250/month of groceries (and maybe Kirkland golf balls), you’ll make the $60 difference in the membership on the cash back you get with the executive membership.
If you spend $500/month in groceries at Costco, you will get enough annual rewards to cover the $120 membership fee. Anything more than that is $ in your pocket.
I know I can’t speak for everyone. Primarily by getting select groceries for our family, I’m on pace to have my rewards cover my membership this year, never mind that I’m saving $ (vs the grocery store) on the items that we buy in the costco size bulk.

Also, about the irons – I wonder if people will be able to find them on the floor at their local store. IIRC, when they released the putters, there were some available on the floor at our store even when they said sold out online.

At $499 this would be a deal but at twice that on eBay, you’re likely better off with something else but we’ll see how the testing goes here at MGS.

Google SMT 579 irons if you want to see these irons in a non-glare finish.

Close, but not the same clubs. Head’s are slightly different, the lofts are different on the 6 through PW some, and the off-set are different.

I wonder how many bought them just to try to sell them on ebay? There are already dozens listed on ebay for $699 to $1099. Costco should release a ton of them just to screw all the resellers.

Already $1100 on eBay. Good grief.
Granted, these should be really fun to try once they’re back in stock.

Classic design with all the latest technology. P790’s, i200’s.. I would love to try these but I cannot. I’m a lefty. Hopefully Kirkland will do the same with these irons as they did with the putters and eventually do a left handed release.

      ‘latest technology’

If you think these have anything newer than 3-4 year old tech in them, I have a bridge in brooklyn to sell you…

I think he is just noting that the look of the irons is good and they also have the urethane foam and titanium screw weights. Maybe not the absolute flex face latest from PING but that is just gimmick stuff anyway. On another note, I own a handful of bridges along the eastern seaboard and Brooklyn is actually a pretty good market right now, kinda surprised you would be selling at this time. Is it an expansion bridge and what is the lowest offer you would consider?

      How much are you asking?
Hollow body, toe weight and injected cavity is pretty impressive at this price point.
