I Still Remember My First Putt With A HeavyPutter™

I still remember when the HeavyPutter first came out…I was at the PGA Show down in Orlando and found myself mesmerized by one putter in particular.  The putter I was admiring for such a long time was the first HeavyPutter the company had released.  Now I have tried about every putter known to exist and for the most part they all feel pretty similar.  Yes…I know they all feel a little different when it comes to sound and feel but nothing up to that point had felt as different as when I struck my first putt with a HeavyPutter.  I literally drained every putt I attempted.

The technology seemed so simple and logical but until that time was untapped in the market.  They really had a winner on their hands.  But…they were not for everyone and not every type of green.  They did kinda paint themselves into a little bit of a corner by niching out all the guys right off the bat that DO NOT like heavy putters…which is a large % of golfers actually.  Although it didn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that they should release a lighter putter…so they did.   They have since come out with a  Mid-Weight putter and they will also be releasing a Lite-Weight putter at the 2010 PGA Show.

And speaking of the 2010 PGA Show….

Which takes us to the reason for our post today…if this company ever wanted to get into a market other then building putters the next obvious choice would be the wedge market.  Well just like we told you months ago on our Twitter account when we heard about their new trademark on the term HeavyWedge™ that this would most likely be their next venture in the golf equipment biz.  And our prediction just came true…because they just announced the new product and it’s called…you guessed it…the HeavyWedge™.

Although the head is not much heavier then an average wedge head (about 4-5 grams heavier) they do incorporate the counterbalancing feature in the butt of the shaft with a 65 gram weight.  Now I don’t putt with the HeavyPutter anymore…hard for a putter addict to stick with one for too long…but it still works as good as it did the day I picked it up at the PGA Show.  So I am intrigued to try this one as well.  I actually immediately contacted them…and I just got off the phone with the guys over at HeavyPutter and told them to send us a wedge ASAP if possible for us to try out for you guys.  I think this is gonna be either a home-run or a double off the wall for HeavyPutter.   Who knows it might not work as well as the putter but I still think the counterbalancing technology is a unique and one worth trying.  It feels amazing for a lot of golfers and that is why the company is still around.  This is not one of those gimmick technologies you see over-taking the golf equipment world…it actually works for a lot of people.

I only have one photo right now for you guys to see…pretty standard traditional shaped wedge…but still excited to try it.

I will give them a try. If it is anything like the putters they make the wedges will be money. I love my mid weight HeavyPutter. It has improved my putting. I was skeptical at first but a top 100 teaching professional recommended it. I am a believer.

Have to agree with fsu#21 (It that deion “primetime”),,,

Buy the lead tape and save yourself the time and money…

Isn’t the whole point more about groove technology nowadays? Has any mentioned or questioned groove technology on this product…it think its more pivotal than weight.

Actually Sergio…the head on this is not heavier…the technology in this wedge is in the counter balancing weights in the butt of the shaft. Have you ever putted with a HeavyPutter…if so then you might understand what I am referring to. If not you should try one out and see what I am referring to…it has a great feel.

      sergio,
sorry to disapoint you but im not “primetime”, fsu#21 is just my old college /team baseball number from the good ole’ days. And by the way when it comes to wedges TAYLOR MADE got the drop on everybody again with their new XFT/TP line. that thing will sell like hotcakes!!

i think their mid-weight putter was O.K. at best and the rest of their line was a bit over the top. i do like the traditional look to this wedge but your asking people to spend $109 or so on an “expeiriment “when there’s all the household names sitting right next to this one on the rack. my recomendation would be to buy a $4 roll of lead tape and apply it to your old wedge and go from there.

The technology on this wedge actually does not have to do with the weight of the head but rather in the counter balancing of the weights in the butt of the shaft.

The heavy wedge concept is made by a german manufacturer since over one year. Their website is unfortunably only in german language … called Marken-Golf.de

I use Dr Birdies’ heavy wedge for practice and once in a while on the course and it really works well and was a darn sight cheaper than anything else I have seen.

Momentus already has a heavier wedge in 3 lofts. It works pretty good, the distance is shorter but the spin is increased and it is almost impossible to decelerate.

I wonder what full shots are like with the heavy wedge. I can dig the added weight for chip shots.. but full shots I see some problems. Adding 4-5 grams at teh head then back weighting 65 seems dis-porportional. WHen I re-grip clubs at teh shop. We clean the shaft down to the metal to eliminate the back weighting from tape build up. II will give it a peek at the PGA Show

People struggle with decelerating a lot on their wedge shots so this will either be a huge help thanks to more head momentum or a massive failure with people always trying to put their brakes on the heavy wedge.,
