Hold The Phone: Those New Kirkland Signature Gen 3 Forged Wedges Are Now Available

The long-rumored and much-promised Kirkland Signature Gen 3 Forged Wedge set is now available.

If I were you, I’d hurry.

Three forged wedges for $199.99 is one of those deals that’s too good to pass up, even if you don’t need new wedges.

Hell, it’s too good to pass up even if you don’t play golf.

Here’s what we know…

Kirkland Signature Gen 3 – online and in-store

The Kirkland Signature Gen 3 Forged wedges landed on the USGA Conforming List in April. At the time it was expected they’d hit retail anytime between eight and 20 weeks later. It would be pretty much eight weeks on the button. We found the Kirkland Signature Gen 3 wedges on Costco’s website this morning. We can only presume that means they’re either in stores now or will be shortly. Some early adopters have already posted reviews and, as you can guess, they’re positive ones.

Despite the imagery originally provided to the USGA, it appears this initial offering is available in right-handed only.

If you want nuanced lofts or game specific sole grinds, you won’t find it at Costco. What you will find is a three-piece forged wedge set with standard lofts: a 52-degree gap wedge, a 56-degree sand wedge and a 60-degree lob wedge. Kirkland says the wedges are forged from carbon steel, but are unspecific on the blend, so we don’t know if it’s 1020, 1025 or even 8620 (yes, you can forge that too, sort of).

Each wedge features a raw, sandblasted face. Raw faces tend to enhance spin due to the lack of an actual plating or finish, but they will oxidize (aka rust) over time, which does not enhance spin. The Kirkland Signature Gen 3 wedge set also features a progressive center of gravity. That means as the lofts go up, so does the CG. That’s to improve trajectory control for lower flighted, higher spinning wedge shots.

The line also includes a “Kirkland Signature Wedge Flex shaft,” which we don’t know much about, and a Lamkin Crossline 360 grip.

For more information, you can hit up the Costco website.

I have one of the earlier gen kirkland sets and the 60 degree is my favorite of all 3. Not sure if its the swingweight or bounce, but it’s the one I hit most consistently. I have a pitching wedge in my iron set (game improvement) and I would much rather hit that than a standard forged wedge. Maybe I’m wrong, but I would assume most kirkland wedge buyers are higher handicap golfers that prefer a pitching wedge as part of their iron set and hit that much better than a forged wedge. If you are good enough to use a forged 44-48 wedge as your pitching wedge, you are going to have a bounce, shaft, etc. preference that you can’t get with the kirkland set anyways.

Purchased and they are in my bag. Can’t wait to get out and play a round with them.

I will be curious to see how they perform. And yes, a nice deal. I would like to see these edge bundles drop the 60 degree and go more of a 44-48 degree, 52, and 56. It seems like having a pitching wedge instead of a a lob makes sense for more golfers.

Many of us have pitching wedges in our iron set, some even have gap wedges. I would prefer to see the wedges available individually, as well as in 54 and 58. But hey, it’s Costco’s deal.

That’s a good point. I just know that I need to replace my PW and GW, and this would be a cheap way to do it.

Thanks for the Costco link and update. Unfortunately, only available for righties.

One review on Costco.com mentions that the “shafts are stepped all the way to the butt. Six steps under the grip!” … what shaft would Kirkland be using? Unusual for sure to have steps under the grip.
