I Hate Spiked Shoes. This Pair Changed My Mind

I’ll admit it. I’m a spiked shoe hater. Except for a handful of shoes (adidas TOUR360, Under Armour Drive Pro, Tiger Woods ’13), I stick exclusively to spikeless golf shoes.

I’ve aways found them more comfortable and versatile. The fact of the matter is that I can wear my Jordan 1 Low G to the range, the office and even to church.

Recently, I had the pleasure of wearing the new PAYNTR Eighty-Seven SC, aka the Jason Day shoe. And ever since I first put it on, I can’t get it out of my head.

I may have finally found the spiked shoe that converts me from my trusty spikeless kicks. Here’s why I’m loving the Eighty-Seven SC so darn much.

A sheep in wolf’s clothing

In my experience, most spiked golf shoes are like a wolf in sheep’s clothing. They look great on the outside but the design is always a little too aggressive, so much so that it takes away from the comfort of the shoe.

The PAYNTR Eighty-Seven SC is the exact opposite. On the outside, it has that traditional spiked shoe look: aggressive traction, stable base, etc. But on the inside, it’s oh so soft and comfortable.

That immediate step-in comfort stems from PAYNTR’s proprietary PMX+ Nitro foam, a compound that’s not unlike some of the world’s fastest marathon shoes. It’s plush, yet responsive enough to provide that “energy return” feeling we all crave when our legs get a little tired of walking from bunker to bunker after successive failed flop shots.

Combine the world-class comfort with stellar traction and a microfiber upper that molds to your foot … you’ve got yourself a solid all-around performer

Very rarely do I get this giddy about a golf shoe. Even more rare is finding excitement in a spiked golf shoe. The PAYNTR Eighty-Seven SC is slowly making me a believer that maybe, just maybe, spiked shoes aren’t so bad after all.

Pick up a pair (if you can). They are routinely selling out and it’s no wonder why!

White golf shoes are fine, or you can get black and roast your feet if you play in a lot of hot areas in the summer. My biggest issue with spiked shoes is the spikes don’t hold up and then they are a bitch to get out in my UA Drive Pros, but these the Drive Pros are the most stable shoe I have ever worn. My preference is spikeless that perform like spiked golf shoes.

White golf shoes? You’re wearing these at topgolf, right? On a course they’ll look like crap after a few rounds.

White golf shoes are the absolute worst. They’ll look horrible after only a few rounds.

I clean my white ones after every round. No, I am not a member of a private club that has a shoe department that does that, I just brush off the dirt and wipe them down after every round. They look perfectly fine. And using the water-proof spray every couple months, it adds a layer of protection

How is the sizing compared to what you wear in the Air Jordan 1 Low G? I am ready to try a pair of these and want to make sure I get the sizing right on the first go.

They seem like a great product albeit very expensive. I wonder how that upper heel section would hold up after walking 100+ rounds. It doesn’t look like the best material and stitching over time. I wear spiked because I don’t want to replace the pair of shoes after 100 rounds walking, just spikes as needed. My Asics gel ace pro have been the most durable & comfortable shoe I’ve tried so far.
