I’m On My Third Pair of These Golf Shoes (and I Can’t Stop Buying Them)

I review golf shoes for a living. Well, at least I used to. I don’t test and write about as many shoes as I’d like but my love for golf footwear remains as steadfast as my snap hook off the tee.

I’ve written ad nauseam about some of my favorite golf shoes. By my count, I’ve now tested and worn well over 125 different pairs. Of those 125, there’s one that I keep coming back to (and buying more of).

It’s probably not what you’d expect. Well, unless you know me on a personal level.

So what’s this magical golf shoe that I can’t stop buying?

The Air Jordan 1 Low G.

Cue the boo birds and snide remarks. I can take it.

Yes, the Air Jordan 1 Low G is the golf shoe that I have bought again and again. Not because it’s the best golf shoe in the world (it most definitely isn’t) but because it’s the best golf shoe for me.

Jordan golf shoes

Before I ever fell in love with the links, I passed the time by snapping nets on a basketball goal. Growing up in an era with LeBron, Kobe and Tim Duncan really made me appreciate ball (and basketball shoes).

And even though Jordan is the sole reason my beloved Utah Jazz don’t have a championship banner* hanging from the Delta Center rafters, I fell in love with his footwear. It became an obsession.

So when the Air Jordan 1 Low G made its way to retail in 2022, I couldn’t help but pick up a pair.

I’ve been wearing them ever since.

You’re probably wondering what I like about the Jordan 1 Low G.

It’s simple, really. They look great. They’re easy to wear with anything. And they are serviceable on the golf course.

They aren’t the most comfortable shoe in the world. Nor the most stable or grippy. But they allow me to express my love for sneakers and the game of basketball on the golf course.

And that’s good enough for me.

*Editor’s note: Jordan pushed off, by the way.

I have a pair of Travis Scott reps I wear to nicer places, but my Jordan 4’s are the best golf shoes ever. I prefer the traction of the spikes and a waterproof high top is perfect for Oregon wet golf.

I’m also a fan of athletic shoes in general (used to play a lot of basketball and running). Now I’m obsessed with golf shoes and how they perform and overall comfort. This is also the shoe I keep coming back to. My question is, do you also wear the AJ1 highs on the course?

I got my first pair this summer. For me, they are comfortable because the last they’re built on fits my foot well. Also, they give me an almost barefoot connection to the ground. I know many hate them and that is fine but they work for me for various reasons.

Felt the same way 10 years ago when I bought my first pair of Ecco golf shoes. Since then 95% of shoes I have purchased have been Ecco’s. When I try a different brand I ask myself why I did not buy the Ecco’s.

They have all the qualities that MyGolfSpy uses to rate shoes low down on the buying list; not that comfortable, not that supportive, and not that grippy. But, at least their ugly. ;-)

Totally fugly and perfect for immature kids who think they look good but instead they look like 6 year olds with ill fitting shoes that have zero functionality for the activity they’ve supposedly been made

Got 2 pair myself. Great looks and comfy. “Meh” grip doesn’t matter. Will get more.

If it works for you, go at it, but those shoes are UGLY. Also, traction and stability seem lacking. For me it goes traction, stability and then looks.

golf is hard enough that I don’t need to wear shoes that look great if they suck (or are at best average) in actual functionality.
i’ll leave these to the scratch golfers out there and worry first about comfort and traction when i’m walking 36.

He did 100% push off but he had Russell going one way and had the wherewithal to use his momentum to create space and to do it subtlety enough to not warrant a call in the closing minutes of the game.
Its a clutch play by a clutch player. Not like Russell was going to do anything like that on Jordan in the last possession haha

This is the most accurate and balanced assessment of that play I have ever read, and agrees with what my eyes saw. I am a Jazz fan, btw.
