I’m A Golf Style Expert: Here Are Five Pieces of Apparel You Need To Get Your Season Started Off Right

With the conclusion of the Masters in the books, that means that it’s golf season pretty much everywhere in the United States. As clubs and courses open back up, I’m of the belief that it’s important to dress for success. If you want to take 5-10 shots off your game this season, dress the part. Part of the beauty of golf is the thrill of the chase—getting a fraction of a percent better. The confidence in our games and the belief that we’re going to keep improving keeps us coming back. When we put even a fraction of the effort that we put into improving our games into how we dress, I guarantee you’ll start to feel better on the course. As the old adage goes: look good, feel good, play good. Here are five pieces you can buy right now to help you get your season started on the right foot and looking great.

1. Holderness & Bourne – The Springer Shirt

I hold Holderness & Bourne’s polos in extremely high regard. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, if you want an absolutely premium polo, look no further than Holderness & Bourne. While expensive at $118, the Springer is quickly working its way to becoming my favorite golf polo. This is a shirt that washes and dries extremely well and after numerous uses, looks and feels brand new. Sometimes it’s worth making the investment on a premium piece, and this is a shirt I can say with resounding certainty is worth it. I love how I feel when wearing the Springer, and I somehow always see clear to having a good round in it.

2. Quince Pro Tech Golf Shorts

I’ll admit it: I’m a short shorts golf guy. With a seven-inch inseam, the Quince Pro Tech Golf Shorts are pretty much perfect (I’d prefer six-inches but a one inch difference won’t kill me). Quince is easily making some of the best and most affordable golf apparel out there, and at $39.90, these shorts are a great addition to your golfing wardrobe. They have an ample amount of stretch, wash and wear well, and look and feel premium. Also, if a seven-inch inseam is too short for you, they have a longer version with a nine-inch inseam.

3. Jack Leather Woven Belt

A simple golf wardrobe serves everyone well. Look, I love a good needlepoint belt as much as the next guy, but sometimes keeping things simple and elegant is the best play. If you’re just building your golfing wardrobe or just want to look that slight bit better, a braided leather belt works wonders. Another Quince offering is the Jack Woven Belt. For $60, you’re getting a genuine leather belt, and in a world where some golf belts cost more than $150, this is a great deal and will pair with any combination of tops and bottoms.

4. Jones A2 Backpack

Sometimes looking sharp extends from your outfit to your accessories. For a variety of reasons, there’s been a certain stigma attached to adults using backpacks. The reason for this is that far too many adults are using the wrong backpacks especially as it relates to their clothing. The Jones A2 changes all of that. This is a mature backpack that looks just as good with a button down shirt and chinos as it does with a t-shirt and shorts. Mine comes with me to just about every course I go to— not just because of its storage capabilities but it also looks like a million bucks.

5. FootJoy Premiere Series – Field

Does FootJoy need an introduction? Certainly not. That being said, the new Premiere Series Field shoes might be the best looking pair of golf shoes I’ve come across. Once again, what works so well is simplicity. I’m completely enraptured with the white/aqua colorway. That subtle aqua stripe adds such a subtle visual contrast to this shoe that makes them stand out. Dressing well on the golf course will certainly help you feel better, but as one of the best shoes in the game, the FootJoy Premiere Series Field shoes will also help you play objectively better.
