The Best Golf Polos At Every Price Point

Golf polos have become one of the most confusing parts of the game. On one end of the spectrum, you can grab something for under $40 that looks great and feels great. On the other, there are polos pushing $150 that promise “performance” and “luxury.” The problem is that price alone doesn’t tell you anything. There are great polos at every level and there are plenty that aren’t worth what they cost. So instead of arguing that one price point is right and the others are wrong, I broke this down the only way that makes sense: the best golf polos you can buy, at every budget.

Best Under $40

1. Uniqlo DRY-EX Polo Shirt

Uniqlo’s golf apparel is one of the best deals in golf. For under $30, the DRY-EX polo is one of my favorite polos out there. They look good, feel good, and are priced even better. I say this with complete seriousness: Uniqlo’s polos are just as good as any other brand.

2. Walter Hagen Men’s Performance 11 Novelty Print Golf Polo

Before you yell at me, I’m including Walter Hagen in the under-$40 category because you can often get these at a pretty nice discount. I definitely don’t think these polos are worth their ticket price of $70 or more but when they’re on sale, they’re tough to beat. I’ve worn a couple of Walter Hagen polos, and been surprised by their performance. Right now, you can find a lot of styles for $25 or less. At that price, these are a really solid choice.

3. True Classic Classic Polo

True Classic is best known for their T-shirts but the Classic Polo is an admirable entry into the sub-$40 category because you can find a ton of colors/styles for $20. I don’t care what the quality is, $20 for a golf shirt is cheap, and we can all afford beaters. For as much as we’d like to fill our wardrobes with more expensive options, that’s not practical or smart. Once again, $20 for a golf polo … tough to beat.

4. Quince Performance Mesh Golf Polo

Quince is a really good brand. Everything I’ve tried from them is really high quality, especially in proportion to the price. For $35, they make one of my favorite golf polos. They’re breathable, move well and fit well. If it weren’t for Uniqlo, these would be ranked No. 1 but compared to the other entries, these are the most expensive and it’s easy to see why. Another reason I like Quince’s golf polo is that it’s made of 94 percent recycled material. If you care about sustainability in addition to looking and playing good, give Quince a look.

5. Original Penguin Stripe Golf Polo

Original Penguin is a classic American brand, and definitely underrated when it comes to their golf offerings. I’ve played a few rounds in their Stripe Golf Polo and I like the fit and feel. I also think this shirt looks really good and gives off the retro vibe that Original Penguin is going for. Look, this is $25 so it’s a pretty easy buy.

Best Under $80

1. Johnnie-O Performance Jersey Polo

Johnnie-O’s polos usually tend to be $100 or more but this makes the under-$80 list because it’s on sale. That being said, Johnnie-O golf polos are in contention for my favorite on the market. From the fit to the materials and overall feel, everything about their polos is top tier. The Performance Jersey Polo is on sale for $58 right now and for a polo of this quality, that’s an absolute steal.

2. TravisMathew Patron Parade Polo

TravisMathew is another brand where their shirts generally retail for over $100 but the Patron Parade Polo is markedly below that price point. Alongside a ton of other options, this shirt is on sale for less than $68 and for TravisMathew, that’s about as low as you’ll get. In addition to their polos performing well on the course and looking good, I’m a sucker for anything Augusta-related and this polo is a subtle nod to the famed tradition unlike any other.

3. NIKE Dri-FIT Victory+ Printed Golf Polo

I’ll admit: I’m not the biggest NIKE fan nor the biggest fan of big brands as a whole. However, NIKE is NIKE and if it’s good enough for Scottie Scheffler to wear, that means something. And just because I’m not a fan of the brand, that doesn’t mean they make bad stuff. From a performance standpoint, their golf polos are legitimately good. $52 for a NIKE golf polo ain’t bad, kid.

4. G/FORE Multi Stripe Tech Pique Performance Polo

Conversely, I’m a big fan of G/FORE. I think a lot of their pieces are unique, modern and sophisticated in a way that helps make golf more fun while still maintaining a sense of tradition. In that same breath, their Multi Stripe Pique Performance Polo is on sale for $54. If you haven’t given G/FORE a try, I highly recommend you do. I have quite a few of their polos in my golf rotation and they’re great.

5. Under Armour Matchplay Printed Polo

Under Armour definitely isn’t the most stylish brand out there but it doesn’t need to be. UA has always let its performance materials do the talking. Their golf shirts are no different. If you care about functionality and staying cool and dry during hot rounds, Under Armour is the way to go. Their Matchplay Printed Polo is one of their more inspired designs, especially if you like standing out. This shirt is $60 and while it’s not “cheap,” it’s not the most expensive option here. During the thick of summer, you’ll quickly realize that your money’s been well spent when you’re not walking away from a round looking like you’ve just gone for a swim.

Best Over $90

1. Johnnie-O Performance Mesh Polo – Stetson Stripe

In my opinion, the Johnnie-O Performance Mesh Polo is the best golf shirt on the market. Not only does it look, feel and perform the part, it’s extremely versatile. Up close, this looks like a pique polo and, to me, that gives it a dressier, more classic feel than your traditional performance golf shirt while still affording all the benefits of a straight performance shirt. This shirt is clean, classic, looks good, performs good, and can adapt to any setting. I love this polo. Period.

2. G/FORE Pique Men’s Short Sleeve Golf Polo

We’re getting G/FORE again because they make a great golf shirt. The G/FORE Pique Golf Polo is another textured offering because golf shirts benefit from texture. I don’t make the rules. This shirt is also moisture-wicking and made of four-way stretch material. It moves with you on and off the course.

3. Sun Day Red Crosswind Polo

From the Big Cat himself, the Sun Day Red Crosswind Polo is a throwback from Tiger’s own wardrobe modernized for today’s golfer. Sun Day Red’s polos are unique because of their proprietary ventilation pattern (I have no idea how it works) which keeps you cooler in warmer temperatures than other polos. I don’t know if it’s placebo or not but after trying it out for myself, I’m sold.

4. Peter Millar Performance Jersey Polo

In case you didn’t know it, I’m here to tell you that Peter Millar makes great golf apparel. However, their shirts are definitely in a league of their own. Their best shirt offerings, in my opinion, come from their performance jersey line. Available in solids, stripes and patterns (my favorite being the above pictured Oyster Roast), the Performance Jersey Polo is stretchy, moisture wicking and UV resistant to help keep you protected in the sun. Also, from a looks perspective, Peter Millar’s shirts are fantastic. Looks, feel, you name it, Peter Millar’s got it.

5. Holderness & Bourne: The Fleming Shirt

Holderness & Bourne have really captured what it means to be a premium golf shirt. Out of all the other shirts on this list, I really think their Fleming Shirt looks and feels the most premium. In a unique way, it’s the “weightiest” of the shirts. I don’t mean it’s heavy. I mean the material seriously feels the most substantial. These are definitely for the golfer who puts luxury first. Compared to their counterparts, I think they might try a little too hard but that’s exactly what some folks want. If you want a golf shirt that screams luxury, give Holderness & Bourne a look.

I’ve bought several Maelreg shirts lately when on sale; started from TikTok shop, but now from emails and their website when running clearance sales. I’ve been happy with every one of the shirts nad quarter zips and pants/shorts I’ve received. Gonna try Quince and Uniqlo next; can’t justify the $100+ cost for similar products.

Give Stitch polos a look. Great classic look and have a unique M/L sizing ( for men ) . Pricing is similar to the other premium makers.

What about Greg Norman Collection? The prices are good for polos, vests and belts. They always have on-line deals, but the outlet has the best prices.

I like Footjoy for the length. Stays tucked. I miss their heavier weighted polos from several years ago. They all seem so thin now.
What other polos have the same length as Footjoy?
      Most come untucked so easily.

My biggest concern about any golf polo is being too boxy in fit. I am by no means “slim” but I am in good shape and don’t want a ton of fabric hanging. Any brands that taper a bit? My favorite polos that aren’t “golf” shirts are from State and Liberty.

Not including Good Good, Rhoback, or Redvanly shows how biased and narrowly covered this list is. Not vetting on this being a recurring column with any much interest.

I hate buying polos at full price. Because if you’re patient it will go on sale in a few months. Every once in awhile there’s a pattern or color must get so I buy it. But really the polo you want will be close to half off by seasons end.

I have 5 of their polos, 3 hoodies and 1 quarter zip. They all fit great, size large at 220, 6’1″. Super comfortable, the stretch is amazing. They wash well. Will purchase more.

I have to agree with everyone who is critical of this article… I would NEVER pay retail for a golf polo and I will never again pay for a ribbed-collar and/or cotton golf shirt. My go-to is a Greg Norman purchased at or below 50% MSRP, but there so many Dri-Fit type self-collared options under $50 and frequently under $30. I’m convinced MYGOLFSPY has mostly been co-opted by the big brands. Not sure why I continue to click on most of your links in my emails.

Get a clue and shop at Burlington’s, Ross Dress For Less, Marshall’s, TJ Maxx, Sam’s Club, and Costco. No need to spend over $30 for high quality name brand golf shirts. G/FORE, Black Clover, Redvanley, Nike, Under Armour, Adidas, Johnny-O, Peter Millar, Travis Mathew, Munsingwear (Original Penguin), all to be had for less than your minimum price point here, if you are willing to shop around.

The biggest issue I have with many polos is the collars. I HATE when they curl up after a couple of trips through the laundry. I wish all polos had a spot for collar stays or hidden buttons to keep the collar looking sharp.

The price of polos has become unconscionable. I can stomach 20-40 bucks when they go on clearance, but $128!?! I just can’t do it. And we all know that the plastic material and process of making them is inexpensive and the markup is HUGE. I will say though modern polos are infinitely more comfortable in summer than the old thick cotton ones from the 90’s

Any shirt that puts a stiff name branding tag in collar is on my do not buy list, that tag in the “super premium” looks like an irritant that I do not want.

Holderness & Bourne? Not sure I have ever noticed the tag. I have several of their shirts…great quality, but what sets them apart, IMO, is the fit. Not baggy. They are priced high, no doubt.

Peter Millar Tailored polos for are good too, but the sleeves seem a bit short.
