Is PING G440 Worth The Upgrade?

We tested the PING G440 LST, G440 SFT and G440 MAX in our 2025 Best Golf Driver test alongside the PING G430 MAX 10K, last year’s top-performing driver. This allowed us to see how the new G440 lineup stacks up against its predecessor and whether the G430 MAX 10K still holds its place among the best. If you’re considering a new PING driver in 2025, here’s everything you need to know to make the right choice.

PING G440 2025 driver results

The PING G440 LST is the third-best driver of 2025 and the highest-performing of the PING G440 series. It was long but also one of the most forgiving (or consistent) drivers of 2025.

Another top-10 driver from PING was the G440 SFT, which finished seventh place overall. The SFT is one of the most accurate drivers of 2025 but with that accuracy, you’ll have to give up a few yards of distance. The SFT’s carry distance is about four yards shorter on average than the LST.

The third PING G440 driver in this test was the G440 MAX. The MAX struggled with distance and forgiveness, bringing its overall ranking down into the lower half of the test.

PING G430 MAX 10K 2025 driver results

As the 2024 Best Golf Driver winner, the PING G430 MAX 10K was included in the 2025 test to compare it to the latest releases.

The PING G430 MAX 10K earned a second-place overall finish and outscored every PING G440 model. Once again, it proved a standout for all-around performance, excelling in distance, accuracy and forgiveness. It was the only driver in the test to score above nine in all three categories.

If you’re shopping for a new PING driver in 2025, don’t overlook the PING G430 MAX 10K.

Why the PING drivers would be worth upgrading to

Here are a few of the reasons that the PING G440 or PING G430 MAX 10K could be worth upgrading to.

Consistency is strong across the board

The PING G440 LST was one of the most forgiving drivers in the 2025 test. However, the G430 MAX 10K and the G440 SFT were not far behind. We measure forgiveness by looking at the consistency of the distance and dispersion that the driver can produce.

If you want a predictable driver, you’ll find it with one of these three models.

Distance capability is there

PING had two out of four drivers make it to the top five this year. You can’t do that in the driver category without some distance capability. The G430 MAX 10K average total distance was 248.95 while the G440 LST was 250.36.

Playability for golfers who need it

The PING G440 SFT didn’t finish as high as the G440 LST because it’s a few yards shorter on average. However, it was the most accurate of the PING drivers in the test. It offers a slightly higher launch, stable spin rates and just enough draw bias to keep the flight a little straighter.

Why pass on upgrading to a PING G440 driver

The PING drivers performed well in this year’s driver test. The PING G440 MAX was the worst of the bunch, finishing 22nd. Here are a few reasons the G440 series may not fit your game well.

Looks are not for everyone

The turbulators on the PING driver head are not for everyone. If you are particular about the top-down look of your driver, make sure you take a look at this before you invest.

The G430 MAX 10K isn’t cheap

If you were hoping for a price drop on the PING G430 MAX 10K, you’re out of luck. It remains at $599. However, some other PING G430 models have dropped to $399, making them a budget-friendly alternative.

What this all means for your upgrading decision

Go for a fitting to know if any PING drivers are best for your game. Here’s a basic recap:

My question is why not include the Ping 425 Max in the equation? I am a solid 10-12 handicap and I’ve hit all three Ping drivers as of this past weekend and I got everything from the 425 that I got out of the 430 and 440, except the $300-$400 dollars more in price for the upgrades.

For me the G440 Max was the winner and you have it 22nd overall. Interesting.

During a 1 hour outdoor fitting with the local Ping rep, the G440 max with a Ptoject X Denali 5.5 shaft was the longest and most accurate driver for my 85 mph draw swing. This setup with the weight in the fade position easily beat any other Ping head (including the G430 10K) and shaft combination. It was also better than my G425 max with the Tensei Orange 55 shaft. The G440 Max has worked great on the course during my first 8 rounds with increased distance while hitting 76% of the fairways.

Maybe MGS should read GolfWRX and their comprehensive “Best Driver 2025” testing to learn something. GolfWRX rates drivers by swing speed and their detailed results are way different than the “MGS list”, especially when it comes to the PIng G440 Max driver. And all reviews on-line from reputable golf sites are very favorable and tout the Ping G440 Max as one of the top drivers of 2025 … you have it rated #22. Your reviews, in my opinion, are misleading at best.

I believe they (MGS) will have separate articles for Best Driver 2025 by 3 different swing speed ranges coming out soon. That’s the way they do it. Watch for those!

I tend to disagree from my fitting experience of comparing the G440max vs the 430 10k. Using the same shaft at my 82 mph swing speed I found the 440 consistently longer and more accurate. I find that published comparisons are done at far higher swing speeds than the average middle aged golfer can generate.

I couldn’t agree more. The 440 Max is the longest driver I’ve ever hit. I have demoed many other 2024 and 2025 brands and models, it is specular AND forgiving. My swing speed is 88 mph average, carry is about 200-215, total is 230-240. I did get +10-15 yards more.

I couldn’t agree with you more. Compared the new Callaway Elyte, Elyte X, to my AI Smoke Max ( to get the Callaway trade bonus) and PING G430 10K. None had any meaningful distance or accuracy differences. Almost wasn’t going to try the G440 Max , but I did, it beat everything in distance, consistency, and smash. For my 83 mph swing the PING G440 Max 10.5 with the R PING Alta Blue shaft was a big winner.
