New to Pickleball? Check Out These Best-Selling Pickleball Paddles

I know what you’re thinking. Why the heck are you talking about pickleball? You’re a golf equipment website!

Have you walked into a PGA TOUR Superstore lately? Pickleball gear has its own section! Maybe the preppy country club you belong to finally got some courts. I’ve played at plenty of courses where the dinks and dunks of that little green whiffle ball being batted back and forth can be heard from every tee box and green.

Pickleball and golf go hand in hand. Both cater to a similar demographic and they’re sports that I consider “lifetime” activities, sports you can play for most of your life.

I have played more than I care to admit and even though I’d still get schooled by some random 60-year-old, I’ve gained a new appreciation for the sport.

Once you’ve tried it, it’s easy to see why it’s so addictive. It’s not dissimilar to golf. Understanding pickleball equipment and where to start will make your journey to pickleball stardom a much more rewarding experience.

Here’s a brief list of some of the best-selling pickleball paddles.

Hero pickleball starter set

If you aren’t sure where to start, this is a great place! The Hero Pickleball Starter Set from Diadem Sports comes with two glass-fiber paddles, two pickleballs and a mesh carrying case. Grab this set, find a buddy and challenge those elderly neighbors who are always telling you to get off their lawn.

Mav E Pro pickleball paddle

Stick with me, here. Like golf clubs, pickleball paddles have different construction and rely on different materials to produce spin, power, etc. The Mav E Pro from Holbrook is a multi-material paddle with a polypropylene core and a carbon fiber exterior. Translation: it’s light.

Gamma Fusion pickleball paddle

This is one of the more budget-friendly options on our list but it’s a great paddle nonetheless. It’s billed as a top-tier starter paddle so it’s a great option if you’re aren’t quite ready to turn pro. You can always upgrade later.

SLK Evo Control Max 2.0 pickleball paddle

Both beginners and advanced players will enjoy the pop and feel of the SLK Evo Control Max 2.0. It has a polymer core, carbon-fiber face and weighs less than eight ounces. It’s a good blend of comfort, control and affordability.

PCKL Pro Series pickleball paddle

Designed with a sweet spot that’s both larger and higher on the face, this carbon-fiber paddle is great for those who love a good volley. It’s on the pricier side but it’s a good upgrade if you’re started to wear out your starter set.

Curious how writing about golf precludes us from writing about anything else? Last week we published 25+ articles … a whopping 1 (this one) was about pickleball. The math ain’t mathing, chief.

Feel free to check out our recent golf ball content when you get a chance.

Connor’s response was: We’re trying to best serve the demographic that reads our site, and that includes plenty of avid pickleball players.

Seriously? Golfers, well people in general – like lot’s of different things, but that doesn’t mean you should have a GOLF site reviewing pickleball.
I don’t go to a Ford website to read about cookies, even though many Ford drivers enjoy cookies. The site has gotten pretty successful, but has certainly drifted away from it’s core purpose. Perhaps there’s too many people on staff, which means the cost of doing business has gone up. And to pay for them all, you “write” a ‘collaboration’ article (aka paid ad) all the time now. I used to read MyGolfSpy daily, then it became a couple of times a week and continues to decrease. You’ve lost your way and are being very defensive about it. Is there an Editor who reads these before you publish? Or is it something you guys all laugh about on Monday? Just like your matte balls suck – oh, and here’s a new matte ball test.

They also sell things like gum and sunscreen at the PGA Superstore. Will you be reviewing those items as well or can we get back to focusing on golf?

      Nope, nope, nope!
Did you not see what happened to Bernhard Langer?
But yes, it’s OK. Please take up pickleball, it’ll help keep you off the course as you’ll get hooked on pickleball and won’t want to play golf any more lol which is great for the rest of us who will NEVER play such a ridiculous game of paddleball
It’s in the PGA superstore because the husbands have realised that their wives at the country clubs are happy to play paddleball because it takes less time and they can socialise with the other wives while the men go play golf, paddle board also takes less time than golf but the women still get to spend time at the club lol

I’ll admit it is a little odd seeing a pickleball paddle “review” or just info on inexpensive equipment on MGS. That said, I am talking to more and more people saying they aren’t playing golf on this or that day because they are playing pickleball. Thanks for the info as my wife has been saying we should play pickleball.
Out of the box thinking, good work.

PGA TOUR Superstore selling pickleball crap doesn’t make this article any less out of place. It’s weird when they do it too.

Pickleball racket reviews on MYGOLFSPY? Seriously? Careful MGS–look in your rearview mirror and you’ll see Fonzie waterskiing in a leather jacket, getting ready to jump a shark…

Appreciate your comment. Plenty of golfers also enjoy pickleball. No need to be upset, it’s okay! We’re trying to best serve the demographic that reads our site, and that includes plenty of avid pickleball players.
