SPY PICS – CALLAWAY XR OS Irons

Here’s a bit more from the upcoming 2016 XR lineup from Callaway. These are the 2016 XR OS irons.

We can’t share much at this time, but the reasonable inference is that an XR OS iron gives Callaway an alternative to Big Bertha within the game-improvement space, at a more consumer-friendly price point.

For a sense of how OverSized the OS is, check out the comparison pics with the standard XR model.

It looks just like me old 2002 Big Bertha Irons except to the little piece of metal on the toe, and the 02’s are still great irons. Just like clothes what went out yesterday is back today. Those 20002 Irons will compete against anything today, and easy to hit.

Yes, a lot of Mass is designed into these and many of the newer irons, not sure what that says about us golfers. I suppose I can imagine these residing in an LPGA bag. The Industry needs to better categorize and designate the player skill level and club performance level each model is designed for…

      A question.
Are the xr PRO 2016 irons going to be thick as the OZ?

There isn’t a new XR Pro iron for ’16. The std XR & Pro from last year carries over. The OS is an add on to that line.

Another OS/hybrid iron design. They all look the pretty much the same and frankly I’ve tried a lot of them and they pretty much perform the same. Not sure what is really “new” here. Conceptually nothing different than my Burner Plus irons from 6-7 years ago. Fat flange, perimeter weighting, cavity back, thick top line, etc.

Not for me. It looks as thick as a ping, and I never bought. A set from them, because of the thick top line! I’ll go find a 2015 set of either Xr od Bertha.

Garden tools! But then I suspect that no one here is the target audience.

Ugh. Way way too thick. I don’t mind bulk but this is an after Xmas bulging belly. Love Callaway but no.
