From Day One, Shotscope changed on-course data collection. The company developed technology that lets RFID club tags communicate automatically with a wrist band to capture shots. However, the wrist band itself was a problem. Shotscope’s original V1 band featured no GPS functionality, just data collection. It was also roughly the size of one of Her Majesty’s aircraft carriers.
Shotscope V2 was a considerable improvement. Unfortunately, while considerably smaller, V2 was still the size of a Royal destroyer.
Now with the V3 GPS band, Shot Scope offers a full slate of stat-tracking and performance management features, including Strokes Gained analytics.
With that, we’d like to get feedback from MyGolfSpy readers.

Dear review readers,
Having the GPS track by processed by an “algorithm”… both sounds cool and sounds like its open for faulty interpretations. Read more below for scenarios presenting an experience with the V3 shotscope watch and plastic buttons.
NO, you may not want to pick this as your first option!… here is why:
FIRST REASON. Bluetooth Connection from the app to the watch was a bloody nightmare… This will make you wish you never brought it home… UHG !
Save your money… Its likely Garmin will be in my future… as soon as i can give this to someone i might like to inflict mental torture on.. LOL
There will be a review of the GOOD items for the watch at the bottom.
1. It seems from usage to post round editing… the v3 is annoying to me the user.
A. The V3 Assigns swings that never happened. I travel past the tee and drop in the fairway and it auto assigns swing at a place never even stopped at. THIS PROBLEM Speaks for itself. I will be leaving my driver and woods home to further prove the weakness of the “system”.
2. As mentioned by other reviews… The V3 doesnt correctly locate putt locations on the green. I get it.. that would be hard to figure out for a watch… but either way.. post editing is long and tedious.
3. One of the courses i attend.. changed their hole order over 2 years ago.. and its still not in the system. COME on people.. find a way to audit courses the same way you found their Sat map and par card info. really.. you can do it.
4. Entering a card to edit the data post round… the “share” checkbox is reselected every time…. I dont wish to share… its my info. And you should default my selection hoping i miss it.
5. If handicap gets entered once into a card. Save it to the next card for usage. Dont make the user reenter the same number. PS, handicap entering does NOTHING for the user to understand or better themselves… Entering it only goes into their database for them to eval you… NOT show you something on the card. I wont enter it correctly ever again, likely skewing the data in the database… duh!
6. I took the time to create a custom tee ( twice with adjusted par values) for a specific course and it has no bearing on the card or score comparison again skewing the data at the database level… the card still displayed with the original par numbers from the system. Amateurs!
when i brought it up… I got the “works for me” statement back in an email. NO it doesnt! It works with your incorrect testing scenario that makes you feel like its working. !!!!
adjust the test until you find the actual reason a real time user can experience incorrect results in YOUR software! “W.F.M” is Lame and Lazy.
7. They use the term “sign off” to save data on an edited card… DUH! You sign off a radio or TV transmission… you sign OFF when you leave a specific “session” usually video related… ONE golfer to another NEVER signs off… You DO however SIGN your card if you are a pro golfer in a tourney! YOU dont sign your card on an app! Therefore using the terminology Sign Off if confusing and incorrect. Save Card or Save changes… is the ONLY computer related directives that are appropriate!
Using the “buttons” in the back of the clubs seems irrelevant.. as they ( app logic) arent going thru a chain of true false questions to verify a real swing took place … like these:
1. Gps stop at same location?
Reasonable minimum time?
2. Club pulled from bag?
3. Club in proximity to watch?
4. G force to activate swing at location?
I took the time to email the support team to show some of the weaknesses in the system and was turned away with statements of … deference and indifference to the actual scenarios presented.
I believe they are doing their BEST… it just may not be ready for YOU!
The Goods of the watch and app.
The watch is light on the wrist.. The strap seems to hold on in a way that I never worry it might annoy or disturb focus during swings. The secondary connection of the strap is smooth and doesnt scratch in any way.
The GPS numbers of the watch rival my old golf buddy hand held GPS for speed of presentation onto the screen. when i roll up to a ball.. the numbers quickly stop moving and give the reading.
Perceived accuracy is +- one yard. When i double check against other known markers and distances.. its a good feeling… I cant hit within 5 yards of any givin number.. so to be accurate to one yard is above my skill level and helpful.
I like seeing digital scorecards or repeats of scores from the summer… however the length of time it takes me to edit my shots/ clubs and put placements… doesnt seem worth the effort… an hour plus to adjust 18 holes… PASS.. I STILL WRITE ON A PAPER CARD and its COMPLETE at the end of the ROUND. making the shotscope’s V3 inaccurate results both tiresome and antiquated.
