Fowler Joins Bradley and Wie’s Hightop Generation

Ricke Fowler wants in on some of this sweet hightop action.

The momentum that started with Keegan Bradley’s Jordans is swelling to critical mass.

Have a look at Nike’s casually-styled Club Collection, and basically everything the company has created since; from Michelle Wie’s pink Blazers, to the Lunar Control 4, to the FlyKnits Brooks Koepka has been wearing.

Risks are being taken, but this isn’t a passing trend we’re looking at. It’s the future. Golf is changing from the ground up, and you should probably get used to it. You really don’t have a choice.

Given what we’ve seen over the last year or so, Rickie Fowler sporting a pair of PUMA hightops was basically a foregone conclusion.

image005

“Each season we work closely with Rickie throughout the apparel and footwear development and design process to ensure we’re pushing the limits when it comes to both performance and style. During a recent meeting, Rickie expressed interest in wearing a high-top cleated shoe that could be worn with more progressive apparel (joggers style pants).  Our design team took inspiration from a prior PUMA high-top lifestyle shoe and combined it with the TITANTOUR IGNITE outsole.  The result is a stylish, cleated performance high-top that includes a lace + Velcro closure.  The apparel team then matched this with a version of our 6 Pocket Pant that has been custom tailored to a jogger silhouette.” – Grant Knudson, Head of Footwear PUMA Golf.”

The game, and very clearly its, fashion is changing – and while many of you over 40 won’t want to hear it, it’s changing for the bolder and the better.

The new looks are fresh, fun, and stylish. Most importantly they’re going to kick the door open to growth from within an entirely new demographic of golfers that value individual style, and individual personality too.

Golf’s khaki-wearing dinosaur generation is nearing extinction, celebrate the meteor that’s hurling towards us.

Retail Availability? Maybe…

For those looking to embrace the future right freaking now…sorry, the custom PUMA shoes and pants shown were made just for Rickie. No retail availability yet. That said, a giveaway is planned, and that at least hints at availability in a range of sizes (would PUMA really give you shoes that don’t fit?), so I suppose you never know.

I think it is great. I am older golfer and I always had a problem with the old click when younger but if we are going to keep the game growing we have to change with what the younger players want. I hear it all the time that it was the way it is and do not change. Some of the old suits that do not fit any more should let there tie down

They wear what they want. I wear what I want. Only thing that’s slightly annoying is having to double check if I’m in the men’s or women’s section at the golf store due to all the pastel colors

Hey, it’s Ricky Fowler! He’s always been a fashion trendy. Gets paid well to “style” it. Heck at 68 I’ve even got an orange Ricky polo with puma brown low tops but orange shoe strings. Love it! Just another form of youthful expression. Puma’s loving it and I’m loving it. So do all the old “geezers” in my foursome.

Does anyone know if the joggers be allowed during tournament play? They don’t seem like something that would allowed under the tour’s dress code.

My left ankle is bothering me after hitting balls, if this shoe could provide some extra support, I’d definitely consider it.

      Maybe in a bright blue.

has there been an influx of players, professional or otherwise rolling their ankles on the course?? fashion should follow form, otherwise that’s just silliness, imho…

I don’t believe high tops prevented any ankle rolls in basketball either. But I’ve been wondering about the ankle health of players, such as Kaymer & Rose, who seem to roll to the outer edge of the left shoe when swinging through. Looks nasty.

I own maybe 50 pairs of golf pants…not one pair is khaki. I have plaid, crazy designs, and solids that are colors I’m not sure occur anywhere in nature.

And even I have to flat out say “no”. No no no.

You can buy “joggers” AKA tapered pants in any soccer shop or online; it’s a west coast fad. Unless you get your golf gear tailored, the bottom of your pant legs, as well as your socks, tend to get soaked in wet winter conditions.
