You Want Minimal? Vessel Has Minimal

There’s a difference, my friends, between a true golf minimalist and a wannabe golf minimalist.

A true minimalist understands that a golf bag’s fundamental function is to hold your clubs while you tote them around the course. A wannabe minimalist, on the other hand, talks the talk but is too convenience-addicted to metaphorically, not to mention literally, walk the walk.

I’ve been both in my lifetime but, as the years go by, I must admit a trending predilection for convenience.

Despite that, I must also admit a longing for simpler times, younger days, and the basic single-strap carry bag of my youth.

Legs? We don’t need no stinking legs.

Bags like that are out there. Jones makes a dandy one as does Penfold, while MacKenzie makes an expensive one. I’m sure there are plenty of others.

As of today, Vessel, that little old bag maker from Southern California, is joining the parade with its new Sunday Carry Bag.

You kids today have it so easy.

Back in my day, if we wanted to play golf, we had to walk 18 holes.

Uphill.

Both nines.

In two feet of snow.

In July.

Push carts? Are you crazy? The rich kids had pull carts but the rest of us? We had to buck up, buttercup, and carry everything we needed on our backs. If you couldn’t make it, well, you shouldn’t have come.

It was golf the way Old Tom Morris intended.

If you’re that kind of old-school golfer, the new Vessel Sunday Carry Bag is right up your alley. At only 2.3 pounds, it’s plenty light and has only the bare essentials for pockets so you’re not tempted to load it down with crap you don’t need.

And it’s also Vessel’s first non-cart bag made without legs. True minimalists, after all, lay their bag on the ground.

Legs are for chumps.

Facts, figures and pricing

All kidding aside, the new Vessel Sunday Carry Bag is for true minimalists. Since it’s a Vessel, you can be sure the company isn’t taking any shortcuts. It’s made from durable 430D premium polyester, a water-resistant material that hits the sweet spot between strength and weight. As is Vessel’s way, all of the accents and touch points are genuine leather and the single strap is padded and features dual D-ring attachments.

The Vessel Sunday Carry Bag has velour-lined dividers and is designed to fit a full 14-club set. Yeah, I know that’s not true minimalism but remember that 14 clubs is a limit, not a goal. Vessel also says the bag has a “self-stowing design.” We’re not sure exactly what that means, other than it can be folded into a compact footprint for easy storage.

The new Vessel Sunday Carry Bag is available starting today. The price is a very unVessel-like $199.00.

For more information, hit up the Vessel website or, if you’re really old school, I suppose you could write them a letter.
