Which Golf Balls Do The Top 20 Pros In The World Play? You Know Titleist—But Not This Other One

The No. 1 ball used by the top 20 golfers in the world will not surprise you. Titleist dominates the golf bags of professional golfers. While this list is a small sample size of the entire world golf rankings, it is interesting to see which other brands and golf ball models crack the top 20.

Golf ball choices of the top 20 golfers in the world (April 2025)

Sixty percent (12) of the golfers on this list use Titleist. The next most-used golf ball brand is Srixon with four players, followed by TaylorMade with three and then Callaway with one. Srixon doesn’t get nearly as much credit as these others but Hideki Matsuyama, Shane Lowry, Sepp Straka, and Keegan Bradley all use that brand.

If we look beyond brand into the actual models that dominate the Tour, the top three include Srixon yet again:

Could the top three work for your golf game?

Here’s a look at the top three golf balls used by the world’s best players and what they have to offer the amateur player.

✅ Great for players who want a mid-flight, lower-spin, softer-feeling ball that prioritizes control and distance.

❌ Not for players looking for maximum height or extra spin with irons and wedges.

✅ Great for players who want a higher ball flight, firmer feel and more spin throughout the bag, especially with irons.

❌ Not for players who prefer a lower, more penetrating flight or a softer feel off the face.

✅ Great for players who want low driver spin, high wedge spin and a firmer-feeling tour ball.

❌ Not for those looking for a softer-feeling ball with more launch help.

Final thoughts

The list of the top 20 golfers in the world changes quite often. Will Srixon be able to stay the second most popular of the top 20? Only time will tell! If nothing else, it may be worth giving a Srixon golf ball a try at some point if you haven’t already. Our 2025 ball test will get us more data about who should play with what ball.

I normally play the Pro V1X but have recently started playing the Srixon Z-Star Diamond. It’s an excellent ball especially if you can find ones manufactured in Japan (vs. the Indonesian plant). That said, what I am curious about is which balls these top 20 players would be playing if they had to buy them out of their own pocket.

I think they mean “if you didn’t have a sponsor who was paying you to play their stuff.”

Who gives a rip? They wear the clothes from who they are signed with. They play a ball from who they are signed with. List the ball of players that are equipment “free agents”.

What happened to your edict in the 2021 Ball test? Let me quote you:
      >
      > While ball manufacturers often differentiate between driver and iron/wedge spin,
      > the reality is that, if a ball spins of a driver, it’s going to spin off irons and full
      > (and even partial) wedge shots, too.

Ball technology has changed in the last 5 yeas. Also, Titleist has switched the formula on both balls during that time.

Well, sense no one is paying me or giving me free golf balls I guess I’ll play whatever I want and can afford.

Why does this clarify that Keegan plays XV Diamond (excluding him from the other XV players), while it does not clarify that Bryson plays the V1x left dash (including him in the V1x group).

Did I recently read Bryson was changing balls, again?

I seem to remember a story from last week, that Bryson was changing to TopFlite, but that was an April Fools Day story.

I know that a couple pros are playing the Maxfli X, as well. Probably a long shot to see it ever make this list, but fun to think about.
