The Bottom Line

Srixon ZX5 Mk II continues to prove that it is a superior player's distance iron. For 2024, it is the best player's distance iron for accuracy. Additionally, it is a top tier performer for distance and forgiveness. Player's distance irons target a golfer who wants great aesthetics, but offers friendlier performance traits. Srixon ZX5 Mk II Review

When we did our best golf iron testing of 2024, we put a lot of weight on the accuracy of a golf iron. The more accurate an iron is, the more it deserves a spot in your bag. With the Srixon ZX5 Mk II winning the most accurate player’s distance iron 2024, it also took the top spot as the best player’s distance iron of 2024. If you could use some extra confidence in your approach shot, here’s a complete review of the Srixon ZX5 Mk II iron and what you can expect.

Srixon ZX5 Mk II Technology

When buying irons for your golf game, you’ll want to look at playability, performance, feel, look, accuracy, and even distance. The technology that helps you get there may not be as important. If you love golf tech, here are a few things to know about the Srixon ZX5 Mk II iron.

  • MainFrame is a variable thickness pattern of grooves and cavities milled into the back of the iron face to maximize flex at impact. (It helps lower the center of gravity and increase ball speed, consistency, and forgiveness.)
  • Tour V.T. Sole helps golfers to maintain clubhead speed through impact. Thanks to a higher bounce angle, less digging allows for cleaner strikes on the fairway, out of the rough, and even from a bunker.
  • Progressive grooves that are wider in the long irons and deeper in the short irons allow for extra distance where needed and better spin when the ball gets closer to the green.
  • Premium top-down looks with minimal offset and a clean leading edge for improved turf interaction, launch, and consistency.
  • The standard shaft is the KBS Tour Lite, but you can customize any of the Srixon ZX irons.

What Testers Had to Say

Our 2024 Best Player’s Distance iron testing included 18 irons. The golfers testing the ZX5 Mk II irons liked what the clubs offered. Here are some of the comments about the ZX5 MkII iron:

“Favorite of testing. Love everything about it.”

“No matter what I did, I knew I was going to hit a good shot, and it syncs well with my swing.”

”Solid overall. Controllable distance. Love the looks and feel, too.”

We also gathered some feedback on the subjective (looks, sound, feel), and the Mk II irons were the most likely for golfers to purchase after testing. They hit straighter, longer shots that felt good and were predictable.

Overall Performance of the Srixon ZX5 Mk II Irons

We gave the Srixon iron a 9.6/10 based on the accuracy, distance, and forgiveness scores it produced. From an accuracy standpoint, this is the most accurate golf iron of 2024. It has the greatest potential to get you more greens in regulation and lower your scores.

We noticed that in a lot of the testing we do, golf irons can perform well in one or two categories, but they struggle in another. The Mk II was a top-tier performer in all three categories: distance forgiveness and accuracy.

Srixon impressed again with these irons this year. If you follow our equipment tests, you may remember that the Srixon ZX5 Mk II also won the 2023 Best Player’s Distance iron test.

  • Accuracy Rank – 1st
  • Distance Rank – 6th
  • Forgiveness Rank – 4th

👍 Buy This If

► You want an accurate iron: Strokes gained are a critical part of our accuracy scoring category with irons. There are a plethora of variables involved in strokes gained, yet you can easily see positive strokes gained performance as beneficial to your golf game. Srixon ZX5 Mk II is the best player’s distance iron for accuracy. Being accurate with your irons can lead to more greens in regulation. In turn, this can lead to lower scores.

► You want performance across the board: Player’s distance are designed to offer the best of both worlds – distance and forgiveness. Srixon ZX5 Mk II fits this billing by being the most accurate iron in testing and by being a top-tier iron in our distance and forgiveness scoring categories. It truly is a well-balanced, all-around player’s distance iron.

👎 Don’t Buy This If

✖︎ You refuse to try something new: For the golfing community, Srixon might not be the first name on golfer’s lists, especially from a player’s perspective. Mizuno, Titleist, and others have a more popular prestige. Srixon is worth trying and unfortunately, most golfers may have to go through a high profile fitting service or retail store to get access to them.

When are these being replaced by next model though. Haven’t they been out for years already?

We can’t comment on when, but fully anticipate new models to be here before the new year!
