4 Golf Cart Accessories I Wasted Money On

Golf carts are a lot of fun but as soon as you attach the word “golf” to something, you suddenly find yourself surrounded by a thousand accessories you could buy. I’m not much of a gadget person but over the years, I’ve picked up a few golf cart accessories here and there. Now that I’ve been a golf cart owner for a while, I can tell you there are a few things I wasted money on. Here are four golf cart accessories I regret buying and what I’d choose instead.

Golf cart speaker

I wasted money on a few golf cart speakers before I realized they were pointless. One fell off the cart and didn’t survive and others just couldn’t handle being outdoors and last only a few months. If you are shopping for a basic golf cart speaker, don’t do it.

I bought the Bushnell Wingman View for my husband as a Father’s Day gift nearly two years ago. It’s still in like-new condition and we play golf multiple times a week all year long. The magnet is strong, it displays accurate yardages and you can use it in conjunction with the Bushnell app if you want to.

Yes, it was more money than the cheaper golf cart speakers I bought but it’s been worth it.

Side curtains

I bought my golf cart used and it came with side curtains in place. I left them on and rolled them up because they got in the way. One day it rained on the way home from golf and the curtains kept us a little dry but mostly they just got covered in water and mud and required cleaning.

An extra project I didn’t need.

The clubs are the only thing I care about when heading home or to the course in the rain. I wouldn’t waste money on side curtains. Get something that goes over the golf clubs and that’s enough.

Golf ball and club cleaner

My stepdad put one of these golf ball and club cleaners on his golf cart. These are the traditional club and ball cleaners that you’ve seen on carts for years. It’s important to play with clean golf clubs and balls but this is not the solution.

First, you have to mount it to the cart. Second, it gets filled with gunk and is difficult to clean. Finally, it doesn’t hold up well and the bristles that clean the clubs deteriorate.

I’d recommend keeping this much more basic to save room on your cart. I like the Club Scrub. I clean both my golf clubs and balls with it and it does a great job. It comes in a few colors, attaches to the golf bag and can be thrown in the wash when you need to clean it.

The wrong phone holder

Most golf carts have four cup holders, two on one side and two on the other. Those cup holders fill up fast with golf balls and a drink. I didn’t want to keep putting my phone in the cup holder which isn’t the perfect fit.

I ended up purchasing the Desert Fox Phone Holder. It had great reviews and I liked the color options but the product wasn’t my favorite. It didn’t fit my phone properly and, overall, I felt the quality was lacking. I wanted something that was not going to shake or move as I drove the cart.

Since I found the Stripebird phone holder, I haven’t switched back. The magnet is super-strong, it holds up in all conditions and I’ve never once thought the phone was going to move or fall. It’s a little more money but, in my opinion, it’s worth it for this one.

Final thoughts

Golf cart accessory shopping can suck you in. There are some great products out there but try to learn from my mistakes and get products that will hold up and be worth your money.
