I’ve ventured into the world of club building. While I’ve always managed my own grips, I wanted to broaden my skills and knowledge in other areas. This led me to a fun project: adding a creative touch to some older clubs in my backup bag.

During my search for budget-friendly golf club-building equipment on Amazon, I stumbled upon Acrylic Paint Pens. Testing the Pens

Before applying these pens to my desired clubs, I decided to test them on a few extra clubs I had lying around. The colors I ordered—Orange, Red and Blue—proved easy to use. Shake, uncap and let the paint flow.

Customizing My Clubs

I started by working on my older PING Glide 2.0 wedges. The black 54-degree wedge received a touch of orange on the identification number, badge and the bottom two grooves. When new, it had a white bottom groove which has long since disappeared with cleaning and use.

The paint pen’s ease of use and the ability to correct any mistakes with a paper towel left me pleasantly surprised. Next, I applied blue to my 58-degree wedge, achieving a slightly subtler effect on the black surface.

However, when I attempted to add orange paint to the alignment aids on my COBRA putter, I encountered some challenges. The orange paint on white paint felt slippery and didn’t produce the same polished look. In the future, I would use a paint stripper to remove the existing paint before applying the Acrylic Paint Pen. 

I was pleased with the paint’s durability. I have played six rounds and practiced with these wedges in various conditions, cleaning them after every use and the paint fill has held up perfectly.

The Final Verdict

This project was both enjoyable and informative. I plan to get to work on some raw irons I have lying around, experimenting with different areas and colors with the Acrylic Paint Pens.

While I don’t know if I will do much with my main set of irons or putter, I will definitely be adding a touch of color to my wedges in my main set.
