Amazon Finds: SelfieGolf Phone Holder

The Problem

Taking videos of your swing to help you improve and see what changes need to be made is one of the ways golfers can improve. But it is not a straightforward process. Asking a friend or someone at the range to take a video or awkwardly setting your phone up against your bag or on the ground can make it tough to find the right framing and consistency in your videos.

The Solution

The SelfieGOLF phone holder! A dual- or even triple-clip device that works with your phone, bag, clubs and more to ensure setup is simple and easy to get perfect framing every time.

Selfie Golf – How I Found It

A while back, I made an “Improve My Swing” thread on the MyGolfSpy Forum and posted videos and photos of my swing for the community to provide feedback on. In all of those photos and videos, I used a classic bendy tripod. It worked fine but setup was always awkward and, more often than not, I had an angle that was too low or I was having to spend too much time going back and forth adjusting the angle to frame the shot correctly.

In an effort to better this experience and process, off I went to Amazon to see what was there.

The SelfieGOLF phone holder popped up top of the list with a ton of reviews and at a reasonable price of $29.99. Seemed to be worth a shot so an order was placed and a little SelfieGOLF box arrived.

SelfieGOLF – How it worked (and didn’t)

Unlike some other products I have done for this series, the SelfieGOLF phone holder had an actual unboxing experience. I had ordered mine in white and gray as it stood out a little more and also matched my push cart. Opening the box, the SelfieGOLF phone holder was presented nicely and included a little instruction booklet with some extra clips. The box also contained a little bag to hold everything.

Full transparency: It took a little bit to figure out how it functioned. It isn’t complicated and, after a little playing around, it made sense and was very easy to use.

The SelfieGOLF phone holder comes with additional clips for your bag (one for alignment aids and one for club shafts) which come in handy when using various bags or taking videos in different locations.

The setup is simple and, with the placement of most phones’ cameras, you are able to take videos with either the front or rear cameras.

I am really impressed with the build quality of the SelfieGOLF phone holder. There is a tension screw for the stick clasp, allowing you to attach it to various clubs and alignment aids without it being too tight or applying too much pressure. The plastic has a good texture that feels rigid and not cheap. The phone holder portion is lined with rubber so as not to damage your phone even if you don’t use a case.

I should note that I used this with Pixel and other Android devices and didn’t have any issues finding a good placement in the holder. Even other placements didn’t hit buttons they shouldn’t have—a small but important factor to consider when using this device.

After a few sessions and some trials, I found good placements and consistent areas to place the SelfieGOLF phone holder to get the best videos to help me continue to make improvements. The SelfieGOLF phone holder can also be placed on the ground for putting and for lower shots.

The only hiccup was when I was moving it and hit the phone clasp, causing the phone to fall. It is an easy mistake to make and something to be cautious about.

Selfie Golf – The Bottom Line

If you like to take videos of your swing, the SelfieGOLF phone holder is a fantastic product. The ability to place it higher than ground level to take videos with both the front and rear cameras on your phone makes this a great value. The build quality is solid and the little additional add-ons and features such as the tensioner, phone padding and multiple clips are a bonus. This has made my training sessions much simpler, more productive and even more engaging to help me improve my game and get better videos of my swing.

$30 for this vs $20 for a 62″, extendable selfie stick phone tripod (also on Amazon)? Seems like the tripod would be less of a pain to deal with but who knows.
