The Best Golf Pants You’ve Never Heard Of

There is a lot of cool gear in the golf equipment world that doesn’t always fit neatly into Most Wanted Tests or Buyer’s Guides. You still want to know how it performs. In our We Tried It series, we put gear to the test and let you know if it works as advertised.

What We Tried:

KJUS Breton Pants: Unlike typical rain pants, the KJUS Breton pants are designed to be worn on their own, not on top of your clothing.

Who Tried It:

Connor. Director of Soft Goods Testing and resident sneakerhead. I believe golf is better with a pair of cool shoes and comfortable joggers. I’ve never been a big rain-gear guy because I don’t like having multiple layers. The KJUS Breton pants intrigue me because they’re designed to be worn like ordinary golf pants.

What You Should Know

  • Available in two colors: Atlanta Blue or Steel Grey
  • Retail $399
  • Eight waist sizes and three inseam options
  • Designed to feel and play like an everyday golf pant or trouser
  • DWR finish for hydrophobicity

What’s the Big Deal about Pants?

Zipper on the KJUS Breton Pants

The KJUS Breton waterproof pants aren’t your everyday rain pants. As mentioned, this slick pair of pants is nearly indistinguishable from your typical golf attire. Traditional rain gear is baggy, bulky and designed to fit over your shorts or pants.

This means that, if there’s any chance of rain on the course, you’ve got to pack extra gear and be prepared to throw it on at a moment’s notice. See where this is heading? The KJUS Breton waterproof pants negate this step. If there’s any chance of rain in the forecast, you can wear the Breton pants instead of your go-to pants and feel confident that you’re protected from the rain.

Are they comfortable? Do they feel tacky, sticky or stiff?

Uncompromising

When KJUS set out to make the Breton pants, they had one goal: Make them feel and play like non-waterproof golf pants. Translation? Make them comfortable. I’m happy to report that they did.

My introduction to the KJUS Breton waterproof pants was in Scotland which, by all accounts, is a great place to test waterproof gear. From the first try-on, I could tell these pants were different.

My 18-hole stroll was both comfortable and casual thanks to the Breton waterproof pants. Not once did they pinch, pull or feel anything different than the top four-way stretch golf pants on the market. Take it from me, a guy who prefers to wear shorts, rain or shine, these are the most comfortable rain pants you’ll find.

Making rain gear comfortable is not as easy as making it functional. KJUS really nailed both aspects with the Breton pants.

Value Proposition

Waterproof golf pants from KJUS

I can already hear the comments streaming in: “Why would I spend $400 on waterproof pants?” Your question, while predictable, is completely warranted. It’s not my job to sell you on the Breton pants. Instead, I am offering my honest review. The purchase decision is yours.

For me, the best thing about the Breton Pants is versatility. If I was to offer a value proposition, something that makes the $400 price tag worth it, it would be this.

These pants can do it all. Dinner and a show? No one would know. What about when the weather cooperates a little too much and the rain runs away? The Breton pants are plenty breathable. Waterproof golf pants that can be worn anywhere, anytime, is the definition of versatile. If “versatility” sounds like an attribute you’re after, you can pick up the KJUS Breton waterproof pants now.

These comments are hilarious. Nice review Connor! You’re a brave soul! Obviously, $400 is a lot of money for a pair of pants you’ll likely only wear when you think it might rain. Maybe 2-3 times per year, unless you’re planning a trip to play golf in the UK. But at the end of the day, it’s all relative. This really isn’t much different than the guy in your group who buys a new driver every year and a new putter every quarter. Personally, I don’t play golf in the rain enough to justify waterproof pants. I’d rather have something waterproof and comfortable for my upper body.

If you wear a 400$ waterproof pants, how much you may spend for a waterproof shoes and shirt?? We’ll something around 1200$, much more than a new set of PING 430 irons, which may last several years!! OMG!! The

With 400$ maybe I can buy 5 or 6 pants cheaper (any sale of a very good brand) and I’m pretty sure that they may last two or three years…

No way I would ever pay $400 for a pair of pants. How about getting real MYGOLFSPY.

I don’t have an issue with $400 pants that are going to last a few years.

Too bad they don’t make them in sizes beyond ‘tiny skinnyjeans hipster…’

Why has it gotten to everything you test anymore is high buck stuff. I get that there is a segment of society that would buy that type of item but most of us just look at it and shake our heads. There is also a segment of us that wouldn’t dream of even buying a $100 pair of golf shorts. I know there is stuff out there that most of us would like to buy. Please find some of those items.

Sorry, but I just can’t see $400 for any pair of pants. Yes, these pants do a LOT. But $400 worth of a lot? No. Not to me. Gladly I live in an area where rain usually isn’t an issue (Baja California, Mexico) so this decision is pretty much made for me anyway. Maybe…just maybe if I lived somewhere else and would seriously use them perhaps I would buy a pair.

Is it me or has MGS started testing things that no normal/regular person would ever buy? $400 pants, $450 golf bags? I get that there is a small market for these things and I’m sure there is a segment of the readership that gets value from these “tests,” but I’ve read more articles this year that are about items I wouldn’t even consider buying due to price than ever before.

High price for sure and I wonder how well the waterproof benefit lasts after a few turns in the washer with Tide pods. If they last, I think $400 value proposition could be made. Btw, I live in Canada so we do need weather contingency plans.

I played in the rain so many times this year I might have gotten my money’s worth from them. I guess someone had to make a pair of rain pants for the 1%? Seriously though if I ever take that golf trip to Scotland I might treat myself to these, but otherwise I’ll keep using my “cheap” pair.

People who leave a comment to only express outrage at the price must have the most myopic view of the world. Two things to consider that are being missed here by those people. First, there’s a not insignificant swath of society that wouldn’t notice $4000 missing from their bank account much less $400. These people have the means to purchase these luxury items. MGS is here to review products without bias and that includes products targeted at a demographic that not everyone will fall into. Second, there’s also a substantial contingent of the golfing world in geographies where conditions get pretty nasty. Not every round is 70 degrees and sunny. For people in those areas where they often play in inclement conditions the value proposition of a product like this is very different. So while a product like this may not be for you that doesn’t invalidate the merits of the product itself.

Yup. And also are the ones who have the most expensive set of golf clubs, are members at the most expensive private clubs around the world, who will go play St Andrews in winter when it’s blowing cold sideways rain just because lmao

Take a look at the Galway Bay rain pant. Same concept, rain/regular pant with no need to pull something out of your bag when it starts to rain, but 1/2 the price. Love the pair I have, even tho I’ve been unable to play for last couple of years. Great when you’re out and about in cold and rainy conditions…

Galway Bay makes pans with eh same concept for half the price. I wore theirs in Scotland last year on days where the weather was going to be iffy. Great versatility and worked well in the light rain storms. Didn’t try them in a driving rain. They also had a lined option for colder days.

I’ve never been a fan of golf rain pants to begin with. I want to keep my upper half dry, but less concerned about my lower half (esp because I mostly wear shorts, and who cares if your legs get a little wet). But even if I’m wearing pants, the rain would have to come down almost sideways in order to get my pants sufficiently aggravatingly wet, and that just doesn’t happen often enough to justify $400 pants. And I live in Puerto Rico (i.e. the tropics, where it can rain at a moment’s notice).

Nope. Rain vest, rain shirt if I’m playing in the Northeast in cooler weather months, and a rain hat (from Scotland or Ireland). That’s good enough for me to stay comfortable.

I’ve never worn my lululemon pants in the rain so I don’t know how wet they do or don’t get, but my son wore a pair of lulus to the Saturday round of this year’s PGA Championship (I stuck with my trusty shorts) – the Saturday round started raining 15 minutes after we arrived around 9am and didn’t stop all day; we left at 7pm – and he was fine. So I suspect my lulus (I have 4 pairs, in total they cost less than 1 pair of these KJUS) would be just fine 99% of the time in the rain. And they’re the most comfortable f’n pants I’ve ever worn, bar none, golf or otherwise.

Makes Lulu Lemon pricing look reasonable. You can certainly buy those pants but your golf buddies have a green light to slap you on every par 4 tee box.

This might not fly at a more traditional private club but there are tons of cold weather bike pants that are fantastic golf pants and are at least water resistant if not waterproof at a cheaper price , less than $100. Having said that, those pants look really nice.
