The ONE Golf Swing Trainer Review

There is a lot of cool gear in the golf equipment world that doesn’t always fit neatly into Most Wanted Tests or Buyer’s Guides. You still want to know how it performs. In our We Tried It series, we put gear to the test and let you know if it works as advertised.

What We Tried:

The ONE Golf Swing Trainer. A golf training aid designed to help with speed, power and timing.

Who Tried It:

Connor. Director of Soft Goods Testing and resident sneakerhead. I believe golf is better with a pair of cool shoes and comfortable joggers.

ONE Golf Swing Trainer to Rule Them All

At first glance, the ONE Golf Swing Trainer is an odd duck. The series of weights and resistance bands is honestly a little overwhelming at first. That said, the goal of the device is to help you train for speed, power or timing.

Based on your training preferences, the ONE Golf Swing Trainer can be configured to work on any of these three attributes. Can ONE club really do it all? I put it to the test.

Getting Started

Instructions for the One Swing Trainer

The instructions for the ONE Golf Swing Trainer are a little confusing. Between the included pamphlet and the online videos, I had a heck of a time trying to figure out the best training method to fit my needs.

I settled on gaining speed as my overall goal. Once this was determined, I used the included guide to figure out the correct weight and resistance band configuration to suit my current swing speed.

This part of the process wasn’t too hard, although the instructions show the heavy resistance bands as orange bands when in reality all of the included resistance bands are black.

Once I was able to dial in the device for my swing speed (the orange weight and two medium resistance bands), I was good to go.

Training Regimen

How often should I use the ONE club? For how long? This wasn’t very clear to me. Between the instructional videos and included pamphlet, I determined that I should train for speed three times per week, with rest days in between.

I opted to do a few sessions per side on each of these training days.

Overall, I was left wishing for more structure. Training is only so effective if you’re not really sure how to train.

Instant Feedback

Perhaps my favorite part of using the ONE Golf Swing Trainer is the instant audible feedback. The satisfying click at the end of each vigorous swing kept me coming back for more. This action is what also allows the user to train for timing and release. Hear the click too early or too late and you’ll know exactly what you need to work on.

The more resistance you add, the faster you’ll have to swing to hear the click.

Size Matters

One Club Swing Trainer

Unlike other swing trainers I’ve used, the ONE Golf Swing Trainer is compact enough to use indoors with no problem. You won’t need a hitting mat, clubs or a golf ball and it’s a good solution for indoor golf practice. I was able to speed train directly under a ceiling fan and still have plenty of room to swing.

Being able to use the ONE Golf Swing Trainer both indoors and outdoors without a lot of room is a major advantage in my book.

Additional Questions?

Here are a few other things I was wondering about the ONE swing trainer:

What handicap golfer should use the ONE?

The ONE Golf Swing Trainer is a training aid for any player looking to gain speed. It can work for beginners to scratch players if your goal is better tempo, more speed, and proper timing.

Is the ONE suitable for women golfers, or is there another version?

There is only a single version of the ONE. It can be adjusted to work for male and female golfers.

Any risk of injury when using the ONE?

Anytime you increase resistance in your golf training routine, you open the door to injury. Make sure to carefully select the bands so you don’t make it too difficult to swing as you start your training.

Results and Parting Thoughts

You’re all wondering: Does it work? My findings are encouraging but not mind-blowing. After about a month using this golf swing trainer three times per week, my clubhead speed has increased by around two or three miles per hour. Is that huge? No. Is marginal improvement still improvement nonetheless? Of course.

The ONE Golf Swing Trainer produced encouraging results. Will it be too complex for some? Absolutely. That said, for a compact, satisfying way to see some potential speed increases, you should give the ONE Golf Swing Trainer a rip.

I’m a workout junkie with a Bowflex, multi-station weight machine, free weights, resistance bands, balls, and a Concept 2 rower. This piece of equipment seems right up my alley. Might have to get me one and try it.

If it assists with timing, did it help with your ball striking? 2-3 mph is 5 to 8 yards with a driver. Not a significant enough return on investment in my opinion.

It sounds like I have to think too much and potentially figure out some things myself in terms of use. Good review, but it’s a no-go for me

Speed training is one thing. If the device is good for improving bad imact dynamics, thats an even bigger deal for most players trying to get better.

      Thank you for the review.
I purchased the product for the same reason, improve swing speed but in a limited space.
My experience is the same as you.
Like the product, but protocols could be outlined better.
      Some improvement but not huge.
Will continue to use in my basement.
Would recommend if you plan on sticking with the training.

$210 for 2-3 mph in a month? I got the same increase in a couple weeks just by swinging my driver 4 sets of 10 every other day. Train for strength? Did that swinging a sledge hammer. Train for release? A $30 Speed Woosh or a shaft with no head works fine. Appreciate you guys testing this stuff. Shows me what to stay away from…
