Therabody RecoveryTherm Cube Review

There is a lot of cool gear in the golf equipment world that doesn’t always fit neatly into Most Wanted Tests or Buyer’s Guides. You still want to know how it performs. In our We Tried It series, we put gear to the test and let you know if it works as advertised.

What We Tried:

Therabody RecoveryTherm Cube. This portable, wearable device delivers instant heat and cold to aid in the recovery process.

Who Tried It:

Connor. Director of Soft Goods Testing and resident sneakerhead. I believe golf is better with a pair of cool shoes and comfortable joggers. Self-proclaimed shin splint savant in search of an effective solution.

The Need to Know

  • Three treatment settings: cold, heat and contrast
  • Wearable and portable
  • Includes long and short straps to secure RecoveryTherm Cube to ailing body part
  • USB-C rechargeable battery that lasts for 120 minutes
  • One-year limited warranty

Rapid Recovery

Therabody RecoveryTherm Cube

The goal of the Therabody RecoveryTherm Cube is to provide simple, effective treatment for your ailing muscles and joints. Each preset treatment plan is tailor-made to provide the fastest, most effective recovery while making your involvement as simple as pressing a button.

The extremely portable device can be used by hand or strapped to the body with the accompanying Velcro straps for more targeted recovery. I’ll walk you through just how easy this device is to use and why it should earn a spot in your post-round rotation.

Treatment Modes

Therabody RecoveryTherm Cube

As mentioned, the Therabody RecoveryTherm Cube offers three distinct recovery modes: cold, heat and contrast. Each treatment has specific temperature settings and duration settings to provide maximum return on your recovery period.

Cold Therapy

The cold treatment setting is accessed by pressing the snowflake button. Once the treatment has started, a short press of the same button will toggle between the different temperature settings that fall under the cold treatment plan.

  • Cold treatment runs for 18 minutes
  • Three temperature settings (61℉, 54℉ and 46℉).

Heat Therapy

The hot treatment setting is accessed by pressing the heat wave button. As with the cold treatment, a short press of the heat wave button will toggle between three different temperature settings.

  • Hot treatment runs for 24 minutes
  • Three temperature settings (95℉, 102℉ and 109℉).

Contrast Therapy

As the name suggests, contrast therapy mode relies on intermittent periods of hot therapy and cold therapy to provide a unique yet relaxing recovery experience. A long simultaneous press of the snowflake and heatwave buttons will commence the contrast therapy session.

  • Contrast therapy runs for 20 minutes in alternating periods of five minutes per therapy (five minutes cold, five minutes hot, repeating once).
  • Temperatures can be toggled by pressing the respective temperature button.

My Recovery Experience

Using the RecoveryTherm Cube on my arm.

As someone who frequently encounters shin splints, I was intrigued by the cold therapy of the Therabody RecoveryTherm Cube. The instant cold relief is similar to that of an ice pack without the wet mess.

In the coldest setting, I found the RecoveryTherm Cube to provide great relief to my aches and pains. Being able to strap the device to my leg while I worked was extremely convenient.

The heat therapy was pleasurable as well. This thing gets hot. Really hot. Perfect for when you’ve got a stubborn knot in your back that refuses to relax.

The contrast therapy was interesting as well. I’d equate it to the experience of using Icy Hot, just more powerful and with no pungent odor.

A Useful Tool

Therabody RecoveryTherm Cube on the back.

All in all, I found the Therabody RecoveryTherm Cube to be a useful recovery tool that takes some of the hassle out of using ice packs or heat pads. The benefit of strapping this guy onto your shoulder, back or legs after a long day on the course is a godsend.

Recovery made simple. No guesswork, no frills. No need to worry about how long you’re icing for or how hot is too hot. This little device does it for you.

Want to take your post-round recovery to the next level? The Therabody RecoveryTherm Cube is a great place to start.

@Connor: How easy/difficult is it to put on a joint like the knee?

It’s very easy to put on a joint like the knee. The two straps are very useful in finding a fit that works. Because you can use it as a handheld, you could always just hold it there, too. Best part, unlike ice, it won’t make your hand cold
