2021 Iron Cover Buyer’s Guide
After never-ending reader demands, we are proud to bring you the first MyGolfSpy Iron Covers Buyer’s Guide. Long overdue!
We know you want to protect your investment and add some raw sexual energy to your golf bag. Based upon fewer dings and elevated pregnancy levels, adding covers to your irons accomplishes both of these goals.
However, improved fortification and fornication are only two indicators of iron-cover performance. Modern iron covers include additional functionalities designed to enhance your performance both on and off the course. Make sure you consider all of these aspects when making such an important purchase.
With so many amazing covers on the market, choosing the set to match your lifestyle is challenging. Today, we will showcase the market leaders in the iron cover category and help you find the right set for you.
WINNER – Nature Pure NiOx Covers
When it comes to attractiveness, no cover scored higher than the Nature Pure NiOx cover. Testers appreciated its minimalistic design as well as its ease of use. Testers were also impressed that the covers were nearly impossible to lose, no matter how hard they tried. True to its name, the Nature Pure cover’s nitrogen and oxygen construction made them the most environmentally conscious covers in the test group.
- First in ease of use
- First in sex appeal
- Last in protection
- Last in functionality
EXPERT TIP - Increasing Cover Longevity
Did you know that doubling up on iron covers not only doubles the protection for your iron but also makes the internal cover last twice as long?
Other Notable Performers
Dank Designs Quick Hitter — Golf supplements to enhance performance, such as CBD and Natty Ice, are big business these days. The Quick Hitter by Dank Designs is the ideal cover for our current performance-enhanced golf environment. This slightly oversized cover features ample internal stash space as well as an integrated herbal delivery device.
MicroBOOM Bluetooth Speaker Cover — Do you want to join the universally welcomed trend of playing music on the golf course but are unsure where to start? Consider the MicroBOOM iron cover. Each of these covers features a fully functional Bluetooth speaker. You can pair multiple speakers together to increase the volume or use the proprietary “cacophony mode” where each speaker can play a different song simultaneously. It’s a groundbreaking technology that will help you make friends as you drive away the annoying sounds of nature.
Mulligan’s 4 Dough Iron Cover
It was a surprise to see a well-known toy company like Mulligan move into the golf market. Golfers who try their 4 Dough covers will be glad that they did. These covers come in a variety of covers and can completely conform to the shape of any iron. Additionally, they feature the highest snackability score in the test cohort.
Did You Know?
Grass is actually much softer than steel. The longer the grass that you hit your irons from, the less damage that they will take.
The Best Iron Cover 2021 – Features That Matter
Snugness
To be effective, an iron cover must remain securely on the club. Pro tip: Covers that slide off are prone to loss and no longer protect the club.
Protection Level
While all iron covers improve bag aesthetics, Priority One is protection. You want to protect your investment and the iron cover is your strongest defender.
Ease of Insertion/ Penetration Depth
The best iron cover should slide in easily and be deep enough to secure even the longest blade. Just the tip is not a solid protection plan in any context.
Functionality
While all iron covers are designed to protect the club, many companies have expanded the functionality of their covers. The modern cover should bring more to your round than just protection.
Sex Appeal
No sane person would argue against the raw sex appeal generated by covering your irons. Though all are attractive, some covers generate more trouser pop than others.

Best Rain Protection - Silver Systems

Iron Cover Tips and Tricks
- Make sure you find a cover that suits your style of play. As always, MyGolfSpy recommends a professional fitting.
- Velcro closures will add additional noise to your round. If you prefer silence, stick to neoprene, latex or dominatrix-approved leather.
- While all golfers prefer their accessories to match, don’t be afraid to mix up your covers. Pairing those from Dank Designs and Lubed Swing could give you just the cross-faded round you are looking for.
- While traditional covers are based upon classic patterns, many modern companies have incorporated high-tech methodologies into cover design. Know your preference. Do you want that handmade look or computer-generated precision?
- Be sure to secure your covers when not in use. The braided-titanium CoverLok is an excellent product to keep track of covers on the course and also while your cover-envying pals buy you drinks at the 19th hole.
Fun Fact- Banned on Tour!
Did you know that iron covers are currently banned on the PGA tour? Tour officials were concerned about pace of play issues as well as the overt display of iron cover fueled sensuality during family television viewing hours.
Best Iron Cover of 2021 – FAQ
Q: Is it possible to flex too much with my iron covers?
A: We all recognize that covering your irons is a big flex and some can argue that you can take it too far. We recommend flexing as much as you are comfortable with. You hard-stepped your X-flex driver shaft three times and your choice in covers should match that swagger.
Expert Tip - Full Cameron Coverage
Limited edition putter covers, such as this Scotty Cameron Gallery Exclusive sushi cover add pop and prestige to your golf bag. Why limit the panache to just your putter? Imagine the shock and awe in your foursome when they see Cameron covers on your irons and wedges as well.
Q: Do I need to keep my irons covered at all times?
A: Absolutely. These covers only protect your clubs when they are in place. We recommend keeping the covers on during the swing to avoid making damage when you hit the ball and grass.
Q: Since I’ve started using iron covers, I’m having so much sex that I don’t have time to play golf. What should I do?
A: Unfortunately, this is a common side-effect of iron-cover usage. The libido-elevating influence of the iron cover is well documented. We view this as a huge advantage as your clubs will be even better protected when they remain in the garage and not at the golf course.
Q: Why wasn’t BRAND X tested?
A: We know that you all have favorite brands of covers. However, the huge demand has generated a scarcity in the market that prevented all brands from being tested. For example, we had fully intended to review the new Pokemon covers but the TikTok-fueled full-foil Charizard search precluded us from acquiring samples.
Q: Ha, ha. Happy April Fool’s Day. Now are you going to do a real Iron Covers Guide?
A: No.

1 year agoBeen using iron covers for over 40 years. Always have. Always will. If that offends your sensibilities that’s on you.
Paul-9
1 year agoI have been using them for last 5 years – Love them – Haters!
scott
1 year agoThe Irons look like the Hogan GCD I bought in 1997. .

1 year agoGreat job! Love April 1.

1 year agoDave, You hit this one outta the ballpark on opening day! Happy April Fools Day as well!
Mike
1 year agoI actually use iron covers, always have. I used covers on all my clubs. In fact, I’ve actually submitted a patent for an iron cover that you can actually hit with that won’t affect performance. The USGA has informed me that once my patent is accepted they will review the product to ensure it is conforming. I’ve already reached out to several of the OEMs & received very favorable feedback in terms of licensing them as an add-on when purchasing their irons. And I know enough managers at the local big box stores who, for commission, will strongly push these on every new iron set purchased 100% made in America with 100% American components If you live in the South Florida area, expect to see prototypes on a course near you very soon.
Ryan
1 year agoI hate to be the one to inform you, but the NIOX already has the functionality you speak of. And it’s a no-charge upgrade on all clubs. It’s already available from every single manufacturer, retailer, fitter and reseller.
Mike
1 year agoYou actually believed what I wrote??? It’s April fool’s Day!!!
Rich Martin
1 year agoI had planned to write something funny, today.. Apparently, everyone else did, too. Oh well, we can all try again, next year!
Dave
1 year agoMaybe I missed it but, are any of these covers forged?
Scott D
1 year agoHilarious! LOL. I use iron covers when I transport my clubs in the car or when playing from a riding cart but not when I walk the course. Irons don’t get dinged up much when you walk. Next time I hope you test the toilet paper roll iron covers (although they are really bad in a rainstorm) and the condom iron covers (much better in the rain and actually intended to get wet)!
I miss, I miss, I make
1 year agoGot to love the reservoir tip.
Job van Steenbergen
1 year agoI use the time-proven “Emperor’s new Clothes” covers , a desing by Danish company H.C. Andersen.
Actually I was a bit surprised they weren’t included in the test?
There is some resemblance with the Nature Pure NIOX covers, but obviously the E.n.C. covers are substantially more stylish. I have yet to receive a negative comment about them !
Charlie
1 year agoLiterally the best email I’ve gotten in quite some time! The investigative journalism and in-depth analysis of these unique and highly sought after products has captured my imagination and has left me pondering all day about why I’ve never used a beer can to cover my iron. Pure genius. .Well done MGS! This is the golf article of the decade, maybe the century.

1 year agoHey, if you can make a bikini out of a Crown Royal bag…….
John Brown
1 year agoNATURE PURE NIOX COVERS are a ripoff of the SeeThru Covers. Almost everyone I know uses them. Lawsuit?
Brad
1 year agoBravo good sir! (golf clap) Really well written. Needed a good laugh.

1 year agoNice the NIOX are the ones I use
Golfish
1 year agoNext year can we get some performance numbers like speed of insertion and removal? Or actual percentage increase of cart girls giving phone numbers before and after using iron covers?
But on all seriousness I use iron covers only when flying with my clubs and then take them all off before my first round. They go back on when I’m packing the clubs to go back home. This is probably the only legitimate use for iron covers!
Steve S.
1 year agoThis could be my favorite review yet. Are the Crown Royal and Captain Morgan Private Stock bags considered interchangeable?
Randy
1 year agoMy first wood covers, always used the purple Crown Royal Bag since 8 years old at my home course. Guys always loved them. Makes good camera and calculator cases as well.
Emery
1 year agoIf iron covers are not useful, then why cover your putter, hybrids, fairways and driver? If I bought those $2500 set of Golden Bear irons, I’d cover them!
Ryan
1 year agoWhy use head covers on woods? – Protect the paint. Protection the extremely thin head materials.. Protect the graphite shaft. Protect heads from insertion of irons into bag….
Why use head covers on putters? – Protect other clubs in your bag when putting your putter back in the bag. Protect the sometimes soft face insert. Protect the painted finish…
Why use head covers on irons? – You don’t. No paint to chip, no club heads in the bag that can interact with iron shafts (putter is covered) and friends don’t let friends use iron covers.
Shallowface
1 year agoHow about the chrome plating?

1 year agoWell played guys you had me cracking literally LOL’ing. I hope people read the whole article and Q&A because it’s hysterical
Doug
1 year agoI’ve been having problems with my NiOx covers being too sexy, so I’m glad you were able to test the Mulligans 4 Dough. I’m a little concerned about durability and the fact that my toddler will constantly eat it, but the current situation is too distracting. People have suggested it’s my Miuras, but I know it’s the NiOx covers.
Do you guys think you can do a review on Fanny packs next. Really excited to see how the Vessel 3-in-1 goes up against Sun Mountain
Bulldog
1 year agoFinally an article with some substance! Glad to see MGS get past lightweight information on irons, drivers, and golf balls! We all know that golf balls are all the same! I’ve been using old socks as head covers for years. Now I can make an informed decision and replace them! Keep up the good work!
Tom54
1 year agoSo now we finally know that Club Pro Guy’s real name is “Dave Wolfe.” Hope the Miata is running well.

1 year agoIron covers perform a serious function. Is nothing safe from satire/joking? When will it stop?

1 year agoIMO – once word is out – This will be second only to your mega-ball review in 2019 for its impact on the golfing industry….

1 year agoThis is great and all but when can we get the break down for best iron covers by each segment. Best for blades, best for players cavity, GI, SGI etc… ??
Rob
1 year agoLOL!! Exactly, vital info we must have.
From reading the comments, some obviously have no sense of humor or what day of the year it is, they must be a blast as playing partners.

1 year agoI want the breakdown by swing speed, and I want it now!

I need a cup joe. Happy April Fool’s day!

1 year agoThose side effects though!?! Seems to me that the secondary market for these is where the real money is!!! Perhaps their marketing team needs to focus on the those as benefits rather than drawbacks.
Bravo to your writers!!!
TxKevin
1 year agoI love my shiny, well protect clubs! People that don’t use head covers are the same people that only wear one mask.
Randy
1 year agoYup exactly.
Ryo
1 year agoGreat review as always. All 4 of my girlfriends love my iron covers.
Derek H
1 year agoAwesome review, never thought there was so much to it. NiOx it is!
Luis Iturrieta
1 year agoThat was funny…..
Mike Reed
1 year agoI have unprotected golf several times a week. Any covering on my club reduces the sensation of club striking ball and lowers the overall enjoyment of the encounter. I will only use a club cover if my partners insist and it is the only way they will join me for some fun. I realize that, due to covid, many others are using them, but I have had my shots and enjoy the fresh air!!
Happy April’s Fool…. great parody!!
Barry Schwartz
1 year agoThis was awesome. As today is my birthday (for real) I’m fairly adept at sniffing out these pranks. It wasn’t until I saw the pics of the winners that I caught on. Well done.

1 year agoWell played! Happy April Fools!
For the record, would never, ever play with someone who utilized iron covers…..
Matt
1 year agoAbsolutely electric. What a magnificent breakdown of such a vitally important and grossly under utilized golf equipment silo. Personally I am working on growing my collection of Crown Covers. Their multi colored collection really adds a bit of panache to my otherwise dreadfully ugly golf game..
D. Lee
1 year agoVery appropriate for the beginning of the golf season here in the north (Yes, it is April 1!)
Have you tried the flavoured versions? Ribbed? even Lubricated, for easy entry? (into the bag, of course…)

1 year agoI’m going to adopt fully using the Crown Covers. I already use them for my tees and small items like my ball markers and divot tools. I see no reason to not go full crown. Looks like its time to pick up a case.

1 year agoCringed when i saw this email come through today. Told myself theres absolutely no point in reading on this topic. So glad i did! Absolutely nothing but the best feedback from MGS . Hilarious April fools and very well done!!
Scott
1 year agoHeard DJ going to be rocking one of these fine brands when he defends his title next week in Augusta. Rumor has it that security at the front gate at the Augusta National has X-Ray vision cameras that can detect iron covers on someone’s clubs in the trunk of a car and they will prohibit entry on the grounds along with a 5-year ban on re-entry. As for myself I have ordered one of each set so I can demo them all. One of the companies also threw in a no charge set of tubes for my golf bag………game on! Now time to heads up to the golf store where my ball retriever has been regripped for the new year!
Thomas Brokl
1 year agoAPRIL FOOL’S DAY!!!
Thank you!
Don
1 year agoThanks for the giggles!
Tom Reed
1 year agoSeriously ??? I have never figured out the need for iron covers. They get dinged from hitting the ground and unfortunately any rocks lying underneath the turf. They do not get damaged from sitting in a bag. Maybe they reduce the sound emitting from the bag when one is walking down the fairway with a carry bag. Chi Chi Rodrigues once stated if he looked in a bag and saw iron covers he immediately knew he could beat the guy.. I guess if the cover is a novelty-looking cover, then it may serve a purpose. I prefer to use my $$$ in improving my game.

1 year ago“Lighten up, Francis….”, read the whole article. It’s an April Fool’s joke.
