5 Things You Should Know About The Srixon Q-STAR Ultispeed

The Srixon Q-STAR Ultispeed might not grab the same headlines as the brand’s Z-STAR lineup but in MyGolfSpy’s 2025 Golf Ball Test presented by UNRL, it proved that “value” golf balls can still deliver real performance. As an ionomer-covered, distance-first model, the Ultispeed showed surprising consistency across all swing speeds.

If you prioritize speed and distance but don’t want to pay $50 per dozen, this ball may deserve a closer look.

1. It’s one of 2025’s best value golf balls

The Srixon Q-STAR Ultispeed earned a runner-up spot in MyGolfSpy’s “Best Value Golf Ball” category for 2025 and appeared as the ionomer pick for both high- and low-swing-speed golfers in the Ball Test.

2. It’s fast off the face

Robot testing confirmed that Ultispeed produces above-average ball speeds across the board. Its firmer ionomer cover helps maximize energy transfer. It’s going to feel firmer off the face than some other value golf balls like the Callaway Supersoft.

3. Distance performance holds up at every swing speed

We saw some golf balls that were long off the tee at high speeds and then were short for slower swing speeds or vice versa. You’ll see in the table below that distance performance held consistent across all three swing speeds tested.

The Ultispeed is also lower-spinning and lower-launching, which helps it squeeze out a few extra yards.

Swing SpeedLongest Ball (Total Yards)Srixon UltispeedShortest BallNotes
High (116 mph)327 yds319 yds310 ydsOnly 8 yards behind the longest ball tested.
Mid (102 mph)283 yds280 yds275 ydsJust 3 yards short of the top performer.
Low (86 mph)223 yds223 yds212 ydsMatched the top distance ball at this speed.

4. It trades short-game spin for affordability

Like most ionomer balls, the Q-STAR Ultispeed gives up some spin and control on wedge shots compared to premium urethane models. But among its peers, it still performed well, offering more bite than some other low-cost options.

CategoryTop Ball (rpm)Srixon UltispeedLowest Ball (rpm)Notes
Spin Rate6,009 rpm4,364 rpm2,058 rpmSolid for ionomer construction; below urethane standards but consistent.

5. Mid-distance, mid-spin iron performance

Across all swing speeds, the Srixon Q-STAR Ultispeed produced middle-of-the-pack iron distance with consistent spin and flight characteristics.

Swing SpeedIron Distance TrendSpin ProfileTrajectoryTakeaway
High (115 mph)Mid distanceSlightly higher spinMid heightReliable control for faster players who don’t need extra lift.
Mid (100 mph)Mid distanceMid spinLow heightFlatter flight helps reduce ballooning for naturally high ball hitters.
Low (85 mph)Mid distanceMid spinSlightly higher heightHelps slower swings launch the ball higher without excess spin.

Final thoughts

The Srixon Q-STAR Ultispeed earned its spot in MyGolfSpy’s 2025 Ball Test by proving that a well-engineered ionomer ball can deliver dependable distance and solid all-around performance. It wasn’t the longest or the highest-spinning option but it performed consistently across every swing-speed group.

For players who want straightforward distance and predictable ball flight without paying for a tour-level urethane cover, Ultispeed is an easy one to keep on your short list.

$30 for this type of ball isn’t terrible. However, I would encourage anyone to take a look at the Maxfli offerings for distance balls. You can get their Tour level balls for $30/dozen if you buy in bulk.
