I’ve been playing golf for 30 years so finding great women’s golf polos has become almost a sport in and of itself. I can tell you that women’s golf apparel has come a long way in those three decades and I’m increasingly impressed with some of the quality and longevity.
Let’s face it: Fashion on the course matters but I don’t want a shirt restricting my swing. Here are a few of the best women’s golf polos I’ve tested and a few that are on my list to try.
Factors to consider when choosing women’s golf polos
I’m a firm believer in looking good to shoot low. If you feel good about yourself, draining birdie putts is easier, right? Here are a few of the most important factors when choosing a woman’s golf polo.
Color
Color is important to tie in all the pieces of your wardrobe but it can also be a factor to consider when you run into those 100-degree days on the golf course. That black shirt might be too hot so have at least one white shirt in your wardrobe. Plus. white shirts are fun to pair with unique shorts or skirts.
Fit
There is certainly no standard when it comes to fit for women’s golf apparel. You have to test a few brands to find something that fits the way you expect. On average, I will tell you that most shirts are built with enough room to allow you to swing so a quarter- to half-size big shouldn’t be a problem.
Material
Performance-type material is the way to go. I still hang on to a few cotton shirts in my wardrobe. I pair them with sweaters for fall and winter play but they just don’t cut it in the summer.
Pattern/Functionality
When buying a really high-quality golf shirt, choose a piece that can pair with several different outfits. I buy my fun colors, stripes, patterns, etc., from time to time but I’m particular about the quality of the core shirts that I wear day-in and day-out.
Women’s Golf Polos I Can Personally Recommend
RLX Golf Pique Polo Shirt
The first RLX Golf shirt I got was a gift for my birthday and I was impressed with it. Two years later, that shirt is in the same shape it was when I first got it and I wear it A LOT. If you need a perfect-weight polo that keeps you dry and comfortable, this is the one. It is by far my favorite women’s golf polo.
adidas Go-To Polo Shirt
The Go-To comes in both a sleeveless and a short-sleeve style. With side vents and one button, the shirt combines style with the functionality women golfers need. There is a heathered version so you can purchase several of these and not feel like you are wearing the same shirt every day!
TBMPOY Women’s Golf Polo
I found the TBMPOY women’s golf polo when looking for a unique color. They have a wide selection, the shirt is cheap and I figured it was worth a shot.
Overall, especially for the price, I’m impressed with the quality. This polo is a bit boxy, and I should have ordered a smaller size, but if you need a certain color and a performance-style shirt for a fair price, this is a good choice.
Women’s Golf Polos To Try This Summer
Here are a few women’s golf polos I have not tried but they have all the features and functionality to look for. They are all on my list to try this summer.
Tnuck Sport Short Sleeve Polo
The Tnuck Sport line has a lot of unique patterns and styles, preppy with a bit of classic thrown in. What I like here is the attention to detail in the fabric. You get quick-dry and wicking materials, UPF 30 and machine-washable quality.
Travis Mathew FEATHERWEIGHT Polo
Travis Mathew has done a nice job of growing the men’s side of their business and now they are on to the women. The FEATHERWEIGHT Polo is on my list to try as it has a self-collar with built-in collar-stay technology.
The fabric is a mix of polyester, cotton and Spandex with incredible functionality on and off the course.
Rhoback Women’s Performance Polo (The Captain)
The Rhoback Women’s Performance Polo has great sun protection with UPF 40-50+ and it’s a tagless design. If that didn’t win you over, it’s made with moisture-wicking performance stretch fabric with eight percent Spandex built in for those long drives down the center.
Women’s golf apparel trends for summer
Women’s golf apparel trends still tend to push the limits on classic golf attire and make things more modern and trendy. Look for fewer collars and more fashion-type shirts, skorts and dresses continue to be popular and bold patterns may also be trending.
Where to buy women’s golf polos
Buying women’s golf polos directly from the brand has always been a successful way to ensure that fit and quality are there for you. Find a brand you love and support them. Many women’s golf brands are smaller and up-and-coming.
Styling tips for women’s golf polos
Here are a few top tips for styling women’s golf polos:
- Choose a women’s golf polo with enough length. Many can be worn untucked but they must stay down when you swing.
- Choose some solid colors to interchange with patterns. You will have to purchase less clothing but be able to use it more often.
- Look for outerwear pieces that can complete the style you are looking for. Sometimes it takes that additional article of clothing to pull it all together.
- Don’t forget accessories like women’s golf hats and women’s golf shoes that need to coordinate. That’s why I’ve always loved a pair of white golf shoes in my wardrobe.
Women’s golf polo care and maintenance tips
Once you find the perfect wardrobe, ensure it stays in good shape by following these tips.
- If you put heavy sunscreen on or even deodorant for a round of golf, pre-treat your laundry with a bit of Dawn dish soap spray before you put it in the washing machine.
- Wash with cold water.
- Air dry when you can and tumble-dry on low when needed.
- Try to wash similar colors together and pay close attention to a new dark shirt to be sure it doesn’t bleed into other clothing.
Best Women’s Golf Polos Recap
Finding the best polos for women golfers can be kind of a personal thing. However, we can all agree that better-performing fabrics, room in our shoulders to swing the club, moisture-wicking technology and a shirt that doesn’t pull up when we go after a ball are all great features! I think you will find that on this list.
