Most Forgiving Super Game-Improvement Irons: Tommy Armour 845+

Who Is It For?
✅ Golfers who want forgiveness: One of the most consistent super game-improvement irons in producing similar shot outcomes.
✅ Players who value accuracy. The most important aspect of choosing a golf iron is accuracy. The Tommy Armour 845+ is the second-most accurate super game-improvement iron.
Who Is It Not For?
❌ Anyone who needs maximum distance: In the bottom half of the field for distance, not as long as PING G730 or Callaway Big Bertha 23′.
❌ Golfers looking for premium pricing: If you really want to spend $1,000+ on a set of irons, the Tommy Armour 845+ is not for you.
Why Buy
The Tommy Armour 845+ are the most forgiving super game-improvement irons of 2024. In addition, they are the best overall super game-improvement irons.
If you are shopping for super game-improvement irons, forgiveness should be a top priority as it can lead to more consistent shots and scores. The Tommy Armour 845+ earned a second-place finish in the accuracy category.
Another bonus here is the value you get with Tommy Armour 845+ irons. These are priced at $399 and easily win the “best value” test when compared to other golf irons in this test.
The only real downside to the Tommy Armour irons is the distance performance. The 845+ are about seven yards shorter on average than the top-performing distance irons. Go get a fitting and see if you can fix that distance gap with the correct shaft.

Who Is It For?

❌ Players who are particular about club head design: Some testers said the look was the biggest knock against the Tour E723.
Why Buy
As you look through our 2024 iron testing results, you will see we rank golf irons on distance, accuracy and forgiveness. We compile data and then give a numerical score from 1 to 10.
In the forgiveness category, the Tour Edge Exotics E723 irons earned a 10/10. A perfect 10 doesn’t happen often but the data showed that these E723 irons are as forgiving as possible.
Luckily, that’s not all the performance you get from the E723. They are also the best overall game-improvement iron in 2024, thanks to high accuracy rankings. Again, distance is where you may see a slight drop-off in performance. Less distance goes hand in hand with gaining accuracy and forgiveness.
Priced at $799, the Tour Edge Exotics E723 balances performance and value well. The only real issue golfers had was the subjective appeal. Testers ranked the E723 irons low in looks and feel.

Most Forgiving Player’s Distance Irons: TaylorMade P-770 23′

Who Is It For?
✅ Golfers who want forgiveness. Relative to the rest of the field, the P-770 23′ produces consistent outcomes for ball speed, carry distance and more.
✅ Players who value accuracy. The TaylorMade P-770 23′ earned a 10/10 for accuracy.

❌ Golfers on the fence about player’s distance or game-improvement: The TaylorMade P-770 23′ leans more towards a player’s iron than it does a game-improvement iron.
Why Buy
Some golf irons perform at average levels for distance, accuracy and forgiveness. Others stand out in only one specific category. The TaylorMade P-770 23′ is a perfect example of that.
The TaylorMade P-770 23′ is the best player’s distance iron for forgiveness. It produces similar ball speed, carry distance, backspin and dispersion from shot to shot. This is not a long club. It ranked 17/18 in distance performance. If you struggle to get extra yards, be aware of this downside.
For lower handicap players and those with more skill and experience, the TaylorMade P-770 23′ could be a good fit. It also has very strong subjective feedback. One tester said, “One of the best-looking player’s distance irons. However, the mishits are harsh and penalizing.”

Most Forgiving Player’s Irons: Titleist T-100

Who Is It For?
✅ Players who need reliability in the short irons. The Titleist T-100 irons are good for golfers looking to dial in the predictability in the scoring clubs.

❌ Golfers who struggle with accuracy: The Titleist T-100 irons are in the middle of the pack when it comes to accuracy performance and Strokes Gained.
❌ Golfers who need distance: The biggest issue with the T-100 is lack of distance. They were the shortest in the test.
Why Buy
Based on the all-around performance of the Titleist T-100, its forgiveness results are quite surprising. The T-100 is the most forgiving player’s iron of 2024 but also the shortest. Distance isn’t always a concern for golfers shopping for player’s irons but it is an important metric to keep in mind.
When it comes to developing consistency in your iron shots, the T-100 could be a good fit. One tester said, “It’s the most consistent of the irons I’ve hit. It goes the number I expect it to.”
Take a look at your game’s weaknesses. If dispersion or issues with distance control are the problem, go get fitted for the T-100.

What to look for in forgiving golf clubs?
As you’ll notice from looking at our most forgiving golf irons of 2024, forgiveness is not just for beginners or golfers with high handicaps. From the game-improvement category to the player’s irons, it’s nice to have some consistency of strike in every golf iron in your bag.
When searching for a new set of irons in 2024, keep these things in mind:
Carry distance
Forgiving irons will help you strike the sweet spot and have consistent carry distance from one shot to the next. Our most forgiving irons of 2024 had the smallest difference between the longest and shortest carry distance.
Ball speed
Ball speed is so important, regardless of your ability. However, slower swing speeds need all the ball speed they can get. The most forgiving irons will help ensure there is very little difference between your highest and lowest ball speed. Off-center strikes that still produce high ball speed should end up closer to the target.
Backspin
Stopping power is important. When testing spin rates, consider their consistency.
Dispersion
The easiest way to think of shot dispersion is to consider yourself hitting ten shots at the same target and calculating where each lands. The most forgiving irons leave the golf balls all relatively close to each other. A high-handicap player will have more inconsistent turf interaction, causing higher dispersion rates. However, playing with the right irons can help encourage a little less dispersion.
All of these factors should be considered when looking for the most forgiving golf irons of 2024. Avoid being overly concerned with terminology like perimeter weighting, wide sole, low center of gravity, and more. Test forgiveness for yourself by looking at these metrics during testing.
Do I need forgiving irons?
Another question that a lot of golfers ask is whether or not they need forgiveness in an iron. Many players think forgiveness is a bulky club head with a wide sole. This is not necessarily the case. Forgiveness is the club’s ability to help you get consistent shot outcomes.
If you want to hit similar shots (distance, dispersion, etc.), the more forgiving iron will help. You can still get a clean-looking player’s style golf iron that is more consistent than another. Don’t shy away from forgiveness in iron if the technology is available; use it to your advantage.

I got fitted for new Irons last year, with the Tour Edge being the preferred club for me.
After playing them for 12 months, I have dropped from 35 to a 24 handicap.
I’m a huge fan of them, even with them having 4 wedges (PW, AW, GW & SW). I have been able to dial in my distances really well with all clubs, so rarely have the need to play a half or 3/4 shot for a specific distance.
And the prices were briliiant too.
