Head to Head: First Versus Worst Blade Putters

The performance gap in our “first versus worst” blade putter comparison was eye-opening. If you use a blade putter and feel you may need an upgrade, you are in the right place. We tested 39 putters this year. The first overall was the Evnroll Neo Classic ER2, and the worst was the Scotty Cameron Super Select Newport +.

Putt distance: Five feet

When testing blade putters, we evaluate performance from five, 10 and 20 feet. Scores are weighted: 55 percent for 10-foot putts, 25 percent for five-foot putts and 20 percent for 20-foot putts. This method ensures the top finishers for the best golf putters of 2024 are most likely to perform when a one-putt is needed.

The Evnroll Neo Classic ER2 was the best overall putter from five feet. For 60 percent of our testing pool, the ER2 was the best blade putter on these shorter putts. The Scotty Cameron Super Select Newport + was third from the bottom.

Putt distance: 10 feet

The 10-foot putts are the ones you need to make. Making even one or two 10-foot putts in a round can improve your score. The ER2 was also among the leaders from 10 feet in addition to its stellar performance from five feet.

The Evnroll ER2’s subtle alignment aid helps golfers be more aware of their lie angle and increases consistency in putting. It earned the title of Best Blade Putter of 2024.

Performance from 10 feet for Scotty Cameron was again near the bottom of the list.

Putt distance: 20 feet

From 20 feet, the Evnroll ER2 had its weakest performance. It tied with the Scotty Cameron as one of the worst putters from the 20-foot range. Consider the Cleveland HB Soft 2 #1, Tommy Armour Impact #2, or the PING PLD Anser if you struggle with longer putts.

Value

The Evnroll ER2 and the Scotty Cameron Super Select Newport + are priced about the same. Based on the performance results of each, the Evnroll ER2 is the better investment.

Bottom line

If you are set on a Scotty Cameron blade-style putter, the Scotty Cameron Super Select Squareback 2 had much better performance than the Super Select Newport +. Evnroll may not be as much of a household name as Scotty Cameron but the ER2 has proved to be the best blade putter of 2024. Go get fitted and see if it works for your game.

First versus worst blade putters: Which is right for you?

Who’s it For?

You value making putts from 10 feet: The Evnroll ER2 is one of the best from 10 feet.

Who’s it not for?

❌Golfers who struggle with long putts.

❌ Anyone on a budget.

Who’s it For?

✅ You need a Scotty Cameron putter. If you are set on sticking to the Scotty Cameron brand name, then Super Select Newport + may be worth testing.

MGS say SC worst blade putter. Matsuyama goes -35 using SC blade.

You’re no Matsuyama!! The pro’s also hit blades with tiny sweet spots – is that also the best iron for your game?
The MGS testing pool is average golfers, not professionals.

This article doesn’t actually demonstrate anything new. You just took the existing data you had and tried to leverage it into an article. I was hoping to see a group of golfers try both putters to see if your testing results translated into a real-world difference. Plus, you’re existing data is just some derived numbers that mean nothing to the reader. Does an 8.9 versus 7.1 really matter? Who knows!

I know data is data, but I feel like this website strays farther and farther from what once made it popular and useful.

      Well said.

Earlier this week I was playing with a guy that had one of those zero-torque, longer handled counter-balanced putters. I play an old Cameron 62 Model 3 (Anser clone). I could not even hit a representative putt with that other putter. I am sure it is a very fine putter, but I would have to completely rework my stroke for that putter to work for me.

How many of us have golfed with the guy who is still using his original ANSER and is putting lights out? Putting is all about feel and speed control, and that comes down to personal preference.

I find these results so astonishing as to be unbelievable. There REALLY are 38 putters better than the Scotty? REALLY!? I feel I’m owed an explanation of what makes the Scotty so bad. Finish? Alignment? Balance? Face smoothness? Come on, Tony or whomever — why is the Scotty so bad?

If you pay attention, certain brands are heavily favoured on Mygolfspy. Others not so much….

There Is a putter for everyone, as others mentioned in the comments it all comes down to preference and fitting, this whole article seems like a waste if time

Sorry, I don’t buy it. Putting is the single most individualistic aspect of golf (try using a Claw grip on your driver if you don’t believe me), and there is no one putter that is “better” than another . There IS a better putter for every golfer, but whether that stick can be identified by anyone other than him/her is not credible. I’m a Cameron guy, and I’ve no doubt that EvnRoll makes good clubs, but so does Odyssey, Taylormade, Bettinardi yada yada. Players like them based on looks, sound, feel, etc. To make a blanket statement that any one is “better” than any other one ? Nah

I tried the Cleveland HB Huntington putter and fell in love with the feel, the overall performance and the end result of making putts. As an added bonus, the price was right.

“The Evnroll ER2 and the Scotty Cameron Super Select Newport + are priced the same. Based on the performance results of each, the Evnroll ER2 is the better investment.”

Evnroll is $50 cheaper per your own chart, looks like you might want to fix that. It does make the Evnroll the better value still.

I happen to be an EVNRoll guy, gaming an EV2 (extended blade–some might argue that this is a mallet overlap) that I was fitted for at their Carlsbad putting studio. Prior to that I was a Newport Beach guy for many years, and putted pretty well..
And, for accuracy’s sake, actually Brittany, BOTH putters have the same “subtle alignment aid” line on the body.
What explains the difference? FITTING…and of course the magic Guerin Rife grooves.
I would venture to say that this is all mostly BS—the best putter, blade OR mallet, is the one which looks and feels best to you and the one you are fitted for !!!

why in the wide world of sports are the prices of putters so expensive? They can not justify that to me.

So the mfrs can pay stupid money to touring Pros to play their equipment. I for one have never bought a club based on whether Tiger or Rory or Sheffler uses it, but evidently the club companies believe that some do.
