First Versus Worst Stand Bag (2025)

We examined 45 stand bags for our 2025 Best Golf Stand Bag test. The best stand bag of 2025 is the PING Hoofer. The worst? The Bag Boy Chiller Pro.

The bags are separated by about $50 in price so this really isn’t a story about spending more to get the best golf bag. When you compare 45 golf bags you see differences in functionality, walkability, even durability. Here’s what separates the first versus the worst stand bag of 2025.

What do these have in common?

While the overall score for the PING Hoofer was 9.6 compared to the 8.2 of the Bag Boy Chiller Pro, they did have some features in common.

Both offer color options and designs to suit a variety of players. They also have insulated cooler pockets. The Bag Boy Chiller and the PING Hoofer have valuables pockets and a multi-divider top.

While the weight differs by slightly more than a pound, we could categorize them as “midweight” stand bags.

PING Hoofer

Why is the PING so much better?

The Bag Boy Chiller Pro certainly had some positives but the strap system, overall storage design, lighter weight and materials of the PING set it apart.

Superior Strap System: The PING Hoofer provides a padded, convertible double-strap system for balanced carry. It was one of the testers’ favorite things about the Hoofer because of its padding and easy carrying. The Bag Boy Chiller has a single-strap design that is less comfortable.

Refined Storage Design: Although both claim ample pocket space, the PING’s pocket layout avoids the “pockets interfering with each other” issue. Some bags claim to have many pockets and storage. However, the bag is much less functional if the pockets interfere with each other. The PING’s zippers and seams are of higher quality, allowing for smoother access and full usage of each pocket.

Lighter Weight: At just under six pounds, the Hoofer is almost a pound lighter than the Bag Boy. The extra dividers in the Bag Boy Chiller Pro added weight.

Which is a better value?

The Bag Boy Chiller is priced lower than the PING and it comes with a 15-way top and a removable cooler bag. However, it doesn’t have the same functionality as a stand bag (with great legs, carry straps\ and storage) that the PING Hoofer has.

PING golf bags continually rank among the top in our testing year after year. They are made for golfers, hold their value and allow you to walk the course comfortably. For the extra $50, it’s worth the investment.

PING versus Bag Boy: Which is right for you?

If you are still undecided about which of these two golf bags would better fit your game, here are a few other points to help you choose.

Buy the PING Hoofer if:

✅You often walk the course
✅ Functional storage matters to you
✅ You prefer a lighter overall bag that’s easier to carry

Don’t buy this if:

❌ You’re looking to save money

❌ You want a 15-way top

Buy the Bag Boy Chiller if:

✅You want a 15-way top.

✅ You ride the golf course more than you walk.

Don’t buy this if:

❌ You’re looking for great storage.

❌ You want a lightweight golf bag.

Don’t see what you are looking for?

Worst golf bag I have ever owned in 20+ years. Play woods and mostly hybrids and bag cannot stand up but salesman who sold it to me and plays irons (young guy) has same problem. Previous bag was a Datrek and it was perfect. Working at a golf course I have told many guests about this and many experience the same. My bag is a CB-15 and last Bag Boy I will ever own.

5 dividers on top. That’s a non-starter for me, I don’t want all my clubs stuck in one portion of each divider, not to mention all the bag chatter and club damage.

The Bagboy is really getting a bad rap. I have had mine for two years and it is wonderful for here in the AZ. Lots of storage for water bottles, even the little mesh pouch on the side is great for my wet towel, and it stays wetter than letting it float in the wind. Great design with the ability to tuck the strap away when carting or using a push cart. Another great add on is the locking that works on the bag boy carts – fantastic! Ping is an awesome bag, but overpriced and really works well for walkers.

For those of use that love our Bagboy bag, that 8.2 rating really missed the mark.

No reason to have legs on a bag that weighs over 5lbs-no one wants to carry a millstone for 18 holes.

I’ve had the bag boy chiller for 3 years. Works great. I walk with cart and ride occasionally. I don’t use the chiller bag but bought it for the cart bag / stand bag option. Plenty of storage. Great bsg

      This is such BS.
The Hoofer is NOT a comfortable bag to carry.
That rain hood pouch/hip pad thing is an absolute JOKE, that Ping’s own website purposefully neglect to show that detail on purpose so that people who are unaware and know nothing about it are unable to get information about it other than what is available on various reviews elsewhere. Take out that rain hood, what do you have to put in there to make it an actual pad? So if it rains and people take it out, they have to have something else ready to put in there! Ridiculous!!!
And every caddy whoever worked for me has said they hate that bag to carry. I had it one time and my caddy complained all day about how it’s not comfortable and doesn’t sit on his back or shoulders properly, ruined my day LMAO
Quit with the hype and review based on initial impression, go carry that thing fully loaded on a rainy day and see how it really is. And don’t just play once, play several times that way and you’ll see what a stupid bag it really is
