Finding a premium bag with multiple options is not an easy task. However, the Vessel Player V Pro is available in six colors and with two divider tops.

The "new stacked pocket configuration" on the sides all but eliminate intrusion from other pockets into one another thereby giving you full utilization and access of each pocket.
The PING Hoofer 14 may not offer you the ease of access of a less-divided top. This would be a definite case of "try before you buy."
The PING Hoofer 14 is like its’ twin, the Hoofer, albeit with a 14-way top to appeal to those with increased club organization needs or desires. While it has all the attributes of the standard Hoofer, the 14 does come in a few ounces heavier and will never be noticed by the wearer. If it is, take a few of those used balls out of the pockets and you’ll be good to go.
Many testers noted the only real difference between the PING Hoofer 14 and its twin, the PING Hoofer, was the 14-way top.

Some did note that the stand mechanism wasn’t on par with top brands but were willing to overlook this shortcoming due to the value. Most reported the Maxfli Honors would make a great back-up bag and/or starter bag.
For a value bag, the Maxfli Honors bag delivers. With storage and features comparable to brands costing much more, this bag is sure to impress at its lower price. Dabbling in the game of golf or maybe you play once in a while with your buddies? This bag won’t leave you disappointed. The 14-way divider top may not be for everyone especially if you have oversized or jumbo grips. The PING Hoofer Lite is the best bag for walking for 2025. While it’s not the lightest bag in this year’s test, it does offer a balance of storage and weight to appeal to the diehard walkers. At five pounds, one ounce, as tested, it comes in at the weight of a bag of sugar. Now just add your clubs and favorite golf balls and you’ve got one sweet rig, so start walkin’.
While not an ultralight bag, testers noted how light and easy the PING Hoofer Lite was to carry. The four-way top offered barebones ease of access to all clubs. Testers did comment that it didn’t offer the level of organization of other bags but expressed that’s not what they would buy this bag for. Testers reported that if all you do is walk, then this bag is for you.
Are you a diehard walker in need of replacing your trusty, worn-out stand bag that’s seen its fair share of loops around the course? If you’re not keen on ultralight stand bags because you question their durability, consider taking a look at the PING Hoofer Lite. It was the sixth lightest bag out of 45 tested. The new Callaway Fairway 14 picks up where the previous model left off and is the best hybrid for 2025. While Callaway may not list the Fairway 14 as a hybrid bag, it is equally at home riding in all types of carts or carried upon your shoulders. The choice is yours.
One tester noted, “If I could only own one bag, I’d seriously consider this one.” Others were impressed with the 14-way top and the “rubber-like” shaft shield. Lastly, every tester noted the storage capacity of the Callaway Fairway 14 with one noting “you could put everything and the kitchen sink in this thing”.
The Callaway Fairway 14 stand bag could possibly get top billing for the golfer looking for one bag for stand and carry purposes. At seven pound, four ounces, as tested, the double-strap system distributed the weight nicely. While not the lightest bag tested, it was a breeze to carry. Furthermore, unlike traditional stand bags with their legs mounted near the top of the bag, the Fairway 14 with its innovative Lowrider 2.0 stand system allows for a near wobble-free mounting experience in push, pull and riding carts. Narrowing down the best golf stand bags took some work. You’ll notice that the difference in score from our top choice to our last choice was quite small. If one of the best golf stand bags above is not a good fit for you, here are some outside of our top picks worth considering.
Buying a golf stand bag can be difficult because of the innumerable options, colorways, features, etc. We’ve narrowed it down to the most important features to make your decision as easy as it can be.
Not only do we want to make it easy but we want you to get what you pay for.
Here’s what you should look for when you’re exploring your golf stand bag options.
One of the top considerations when purchasing a golf stand bag is the storage and capacity. There is more to storage than just an abundance of pockets. Any given stand bag may have a plethora of pockets but not adequate, functional storage.
Pockets are often stacked one upon the other. A poorly designed stand bag has pockets that intrude on other pockets. If this occurs due to the lack of a liner or just the contents pressing into the other pockets, it makes adjacent pockets all but useless .
Furthermore, top-performing bags have stitching and design that allow pockets to open fully for ease of access and full utilization. Other bags feature a variety of pockets to keep valuables dry and secure, for extra apparel and/or rain gear, for balls and tees, water bottles and even a cooler pocket for the obligatory cold drink of choice.
While the Vessel Player V Pro took top honors in the storage department, others outside the previously identified category winners stood out, too. The Pins & Aces Player Preferred, Srixon Premium, OGIO Shadow, and Ghost Anyday were among the top along the category leaders.
While the stand bags tested had anywhere from three to 15 dividers, most fell in the five- to six-divider range. In our experience, those tops seem to provide a balance of spacing and organization.
The number of spaces does not make or break a stand bag. The curve of the dividers particular to when the stand bag is actuated is important, too. Dividers that have a slight curve naturally splay the irons and woods increasing user-functionality and access.
Lastly, dividers run the gamut from velour-lined to rubber-coated with or without full-length dividers, designed to protect and organize your shafts and clubs. Looking for maximum organization with little to no bag chatter? Consider the Ogio Silencer.
While the velour-lined, six-way divider of the Vessel Player V DXR excelled, others stood out. Ogio’s Shadow and Woode were among the category leaders. The Vessel Lux Air (due out this spring) with its simple, three-way top excelled, too.
When it comes to walking a course, weight is a serious consideration. The stand bags tested range from around 3 1/2 to 9 1/2 pounds.
While the median weight for the 45 tested golf stand bags was right around 5 1/2 pounds, four bags separated themselves from the pack. If you’re looking for the lightest bag, consider the Titleist Player 4 Carbon, Srixon Ultralight, Maxfli Air, and Callaway Hyperlite Zero that all came in at below four pounds each.
First and foremost, a stand bag should be comfortable and functional while walking. We refer to this as “walkability.” Don’t look for that one in the dictionary. It’s not there.
The idea of “walkability” is multi-faceted. It takes into account things like weight and size and strap design as well as how easy a bag is to adjust and even the placement of padding on the hip. Light weight alone does not ensure “walkability” as there are midweight bags that are just as walkable as their lighter brethren.
Whether fully loaded with 14 clubs, a sleeve or more of balls or pared down to your liking, the best golf stand bags are well-balanced, a joy to shoulder and comfortable while walking the course. Furthermore, these bags feature comfortable, padded double straps and the “right” number of functional, accessible pockets.
While PING’s Hoofer and Moonlander rounded out the top spot for “walkability”, other stand bags were right on their heels: the Sun Mountain Eclipse 2.5, Stitch SL2 Gen 2, and the UNRL Founders Air Carry.
There are golfers who walk the golf course every time they play and those who prefer to trade on and off between a golf trolley or push cart, a golf cart, and walking. The best golf bags for golfers who are looking for versatility tend to be mid-weight/mid-size bags.
Something that won’t get beat up on the cart. It usually provides a bit more club organization and maybe a cart strap pass you don’t see in some of the best lightweight golf bags on the market.

This is where golf stand bags separate themselves into the good, the bad and the ugly. These are some of the features you should consider before purchasing a stand bag.
The stand system (or legs) needs to be stable in any condition.
Not all stand systems are created equal. Some actuate very quickly and snap right into position while some are wobbly and require a lot of force to set in motion.
We found the best legs and stand systems have supports a few inches from the top of the legs. The best legs also had smaller feet and actuated on demand again and again.

While stand stability should be a key consideration in the features category, don’t overlook zippers and other creature comforts that can make your round all the more enjoyable.
Zippers are often an overlooked item until you run across bad ones. Look for zippers that are easily opened/closed consistently with one hand. Furthermore, some zippers are waterproof and have durable pulls.
Look for simple things like Velcro tabs for storing and drying gloves. What about a water bottle holder? Will it hold an appropriately sized water bottle for your needs? Does the bag have quick access magnetic pockets for things like extra balls and/or rangefinders?

I’ve noticed this over the last year, but is there a way to add an “expand data” selection to these Buyers Guides? Sure, the featured bags get an abbreviated rundown, but the middling bags don’t show anything other than “overall score”. Maybe I’m a weirdo (big numbers guy as an engineer), but I like to see the different categorical ratings for each item. Toss in a “Check Price” button for each as a bonus (I wouldn’t be heartbroken if it was omitted either).

My vote for top stand bag must go to the Titleist Player 4 due to walkability weight of about 3 lbs, similar space and storability to the kings of your heap Ping Hoofer and/or Hoofer Lite. While I dearly love my special edition Dancing Mr Ping Hoofer Lite (coolest and most eye catching bag I have ever owned), at close to 5 lbs I would never take it for a walk and reach for my Player 4.

You forgot to add WEIGHT, overall use when all the clubs, extra balls, towel, gadgets, snacks, drinks, emergency kit (tape and nail cutter etc), tees, markers, extra jackets, socks, rain pants etc – are all in??? How’s the balance? How’s it to walk with all that?
Rain-proofness. Not just water-resistance – actual performance when it’s raining. How does Ping get anywhere neat the top when you have to pull out the hood from the pocket where your back supposedly gets padding, what do you do when it rains and you’re carrying your bag, and all of a sudden you have no padding? You’ve watched most videos of dudes in the UK and up North in wet climes – well????
I have never looked at the Pings for these reasons – that bag is tight, is not user-friendly, doesn’t hold things well in its pockets, and the hoodie thing is asinine.
We’re talking about STAND bags, right? Bags that people carry on their backs? If not, then you’re reviewing it all as if people just stick them on hand-carts and call it a day, so the ratings are bogus here

I’m glad to see Sunday make the list – I have two different styles of their bags and we bought five of one of them to outfit the high school golf team. Those bags are very well made, they have stood up against five teenagers and not one kid has complained about carrying it around the course even on 18 hole matches. I’d recommend any Sunday bag. I am suspicious, as are others, of Ping being chosen as number 1 year after year. I rented one and would take a Sunday Ryder bag – available in many colors – over the Ping any day.

I agree with the many others who question the inclusion of the Ping Hoofer 14 every year. Check out TGW’s website to see the reviews of this bag – they are overwhelmingly terrible, all due to the bag not having full length dividers. This site usually adheres to their ‘UNBIASED TESTING’ claim but I have a hard time believing it’s being applied here.

I want to start by saying I love almost everything MGS does. With that said year after year the bag reviews are the same. Ping with some randos and then maxfli as the value. Got a hoofer 14 for my son a couple of years ago and the clubs snagged so much both going in and out it would make a frustrating old day even more so. When he got refit and was put in midsize grips we were afraid he might never fit his clubs out again. So we got a new bag. Both my 10 year old sun mountain bag and his new one (Sun Mountain 2.5) are better bags. Sun Mountain gets the shaft in these reviews every year. I get that bag reviews are tough to do but either do full testing (on course carry and use with a fully loaded bag) or don’t do them. Stop putting out the same junk reviews each year.

So every single year the Ping Hoofer is labeled the best bag and I always just have to shrug because I do think it is subjective. After the first time it won, I went to my local Golf Galaxy to check it out as I was in the market for a new stand bag. I didn’t care for the design of the bag and ended up walking out with a Titleist 14 Stand Bag. Reason why I say this is I wonder how much the bag ranking would change if there was someone else who did the scoring. I am calling it now, the Ping Cart bag is going to win this year. Stamp it.

While I have long been a fan of MGS reviews, I am not a fan of this one. There is only 1 Sun Mountain bag listed and it’s a model that is not on Sun Mountain’s website, not listed at either Dick’s/Golf Galaxy or PGATSS, and I have never heard of. There are 4 super-expensive Vessel bags rated. This selection screams either freebies or payoff or both. I actually walk golf courses either carrying or pushing my gear. My Sun Mountain 2.5+ is over 6 years old and is still better than anything else under 3 lbs. The Maxfli Air might be a good, inexpensive alternative, but most golfers have nightmares about the pricing of the Vessel bags.

How is each of the criteria scored to determine the final score. Are some weighted more than others?
The fact that the best walking bag comes in at 5.5lbs makes this very questionable.
I do not care how comfortable the straps are and nice pockets it has, a fully loaded bag and walking a fully length 18 hole course, there is no sensible golfer would say a bag at 5.5lbs is the best walking bag.
It is evident that no tester did this and just walked around the warehouse as the criteria

Ping hoofer doesn’t have full length dividers and every one I’ve checked in person has had questionable stitching to put it kindly.
I understand who keeps the lights on for you guys but no thanks.

At some point, having a bag like the Vessel Player V in the same guide as an ultralight like the Sun Mountain 2.5+ is just kind of silly. They are both ‘stand’ bags, in that they both have extendible support, but they are essentially entirely different products from there. The Vessel is a Cart bag they stapled legs to, and the 2.5+ is for the fanatical walker who’s primary concern is weight.
I’m just saying maybe next year it’s time to break up this category so that you’re comparing Apples to Apples…

Thanks for the good work. Was really hoping to see the Titleist Hybrid compete against the Callaway Hybrid as they have both won in recent years without the other among the competitors. I really don’t understand why they are not evaluated in the same year. Will they ever go head to head?
