Mizuno Pro 225 Irons Details

The Mizuno Pro 225 irons feature Grain Flow Forged 4135 Chromoly, increased tungsten weighting in the longer irons, a copper underlay and a full satin brush finish. These irons created more distance for players without losing the iconic Mizuno feel.

With this iron head being hollow, a higher COR, higher MOI and more solid feel are attainable. The cambered sole is a bit wider than we have seen with previous Mizuno releases and it’s not quite as sleek as a traditional Mizuno blade. That slightly thicker sole helps with accuracy. Tungsten weighting helps with improved launch conditions in the mid to long irons, so expect a mid to high ball flight.

This is considered the most forgiving iron in the Mizuno Pro lineup this year.

How We Test 

The Mizuno Pro 225 iron was evaluated as part of the 2022 Most Wanted Player’s Distance Iron test. There were 12 products tested over 200 hours. More than 11,500 shots were taken and analyzed using the Foresight GC Quad launch monitor. To help keep variables to a minimum, the Titleist Pro V1 was the only ball used. When analyzing players’ distance irons, we looked at distance, accuracy, forgiveness and overall performance. 

Mizuno Pro 225 Review

The Mizuno Pro 225 irons won the 2022 Most Wanted Player’s Distance Iron Test with a total score of 97.53/100. If you follow our Most Wanted Testing results, for a product to get this close to 100 is quite rare. The Mizuno Pro 225 had some tough competition from the Wilson Staff D9 Forged which finished with a score of 95.25. However, the distance, accuracy and feel of the Mizuno Pro 225 brought them to the top of the list. 

Distance

For a golf iron to win the best player’s distance iron, you may assume it’s the longest iron of the group. However, that did not prove to be the case with the Mizuno Pro 225. Distance numbers from Mizuno Pro 225 were strong with a third-place finish and a score of 92.73. The Callaway Rogue ST Pro was the longest.

Accuracy

The Mizuno Pro 225 earned a second-place finish for accuracy. Second place in accuracy and third in distance is what made these stand out.

Forgiveness

Forgiveness was the worst category for the Mizuno Pro 225 with a fifth-place finish and score of 86.66/100. The club has a slightly wider sole to help with forgiveness in the long irons but it still fell short of what other player’s distance irons were capable of. Testers noticed the club felt a little hooky, and the majority of the misses were left, something mid to low handicappers often struggle with. 

Overall 

The total score of 97.53 and a first-place finish showed Mizuno has plenty to offer. In the end, this is not the longest nor most forgiving golf iron on the market. However, in the player’s distance category, it is still the top performer. For golfers that appreciate a clean look and tremendous accuracy, the Mizuno Pro 225 is a club to try.
