It’s that time of year, campers. The Masters is less than a week away so get ready for a slew of green, yellow and/or floral limited-edition specials.
This year COBRA is kicking things off with the rather snappy-looking, Augusta-inspired and limited-edition DARKSPEED Season Opener driver. “Season Opener”, of course, in honor of the annual eastern Georgia get-together, the season-opening men’s major.
For the record, it’s the same as COBRA’s non-Augusta-inspired, non-limited-edition DARKSPEED driver, just with new, Augusta-inspired graphics.
It’s a busy design but it does look pretty snappy. If you like azaleas, that is.
COBRA Limited-Edition DARKSPEED Season Opener Driver
What makes this driver Augusta-inspired? Well, you have green piping on the crown with dashes of green and yellow highlights on the sole. But it’s the field of azaleas covering the sole that will have Georgia on your mind.
COBRA isn’t shy about limited-edition drivers. Just last month, it released an island-inspired limited-edition driver collaboration with Palm Tree Crew. There will, no doubt, be more to come.
What’s the attraction of limited-edition drivers? Well, if you don’t have a new driver yet and you dig the designs, it can certainly add a bit of color to your bag. But, again, it’s important to note the only difference is the cosmetics. You either like it or you don’t and you either want it or you don’t.
Specs, Price and Availability
The COBRA limited-edition DARKSPEED Season Opener driver will be available in both the X and LS models. The X fits the widest range of players with rear weighting to move the CG towards the back of the clubhead, with a second front weight position to optimize ball flight. The LS is the low-spin model for faster swingers and features two forward weight ports to move the CG up and a third weight port in the back. It comes with one 12-gram weight and a pair of three-gram weights.
The stock shaft is the Mitsubishi 1K Black in X, S or R flex. Each adjustable driver will be available in a nine- or a 10.5-degree loft. A special limited-edition head cover is included.
