NBA superstar Steph Curry and his Underrated Golf Tour have another fundraising collaboration up their sleeves. As the kids might say, this one is lit.
Curry is joining forces with the legendary Japanese forged iron brand Miura to create a limited-edition iron collaboration to benefit Curry’s Underrated Golf Tour. At $5,000 per set, it’s not something most of us are going to rush right out and buy but the cause is a good one.
Besides, they’re pretty cool to look at.
Let’s check ‘em out, shall we?
Miura x Curry Limited Edition irons
When Miura and Curry say “limited edition”, they mean limited edition. The Miura x Curry set is based on the Miura irons Curry plays and only 300 sets are being produced.
“Miura’s commitment to perfection and precision has always stood out for me,” says Curry. “The company’s values of family, discipline and integrity are key pillars we share as the foundation of our partnership.”

As mentioned, this unusual collaboration aims to raise funds and awareness for Curry’s Underrated Golf Tour. The program is Curry’s effort to broaden the pipeline of competitive junior golf, giving talented but under-recognized players greater access to golf opportunities. Its mission is rooted in making the game more inclusive while helping young athletes succeed in golf, college and life.

In addition to national competition (fully funded by the tour), it provides opportunities for college scholarships, workforce development and career counseling. A portion of the proceeds helps fund Underrated’s programs and mission.
“Steph Curry’s commitment to excellence and dedication to his craft matches up perfectly with Miura’s identity,” says Miura Golf President Anthony Neville. “We believe that the Miura x Curry set is the ideal expression of that singular focus.”

What does five grand get you?
Miura is known for its limited-production high-end forgings. The Miura x Curry set takes “high-end” to a new extreme. The 4-, 5- and 6-irons are based on Miura’s TC-202 forged cavity-back while the 7-iron through pitching wedge are the MB-101 muscle-back blades. Each iron features a distinctive and durable QPQ (Quench-Polish-Quench) finish.
Additionally, each iron is stamped with Curry’s logo and his motto – “I can do all things” – is engraved in each hosel. Additionally, the set’s 6-iron features a Curry-esque twist. The TC-202 6-iron would typically be 29 degrees but the one in this set is 30 degrees and it stamped “30” instead of the traditional “6.”

30, of course, is Curry’s uniform number.
Each set includes custom black-and-champagne colored ferrules and champagne-accented grips, each with four rings to commemorate Curry’s four NBA championships. Even the shafts are Curry-centric. They’re Dynamic Gold Tour Issue shafts in an SC30 flex (that’s Steph Curry 30, friends). In Dynamic Gold-speak, they’re S400.
Hell, even the box is collectible. It features the Miura and Curry logos surrounded by a basketball net motif. Inside is imagery of Curry’s career along with a message featuring a rendering of Curry’s autograph. Thirty (get it?) of the sets will feature Curry’s actual autograph. Those will be distributed “golden ticket” style.

The Curry-Miura connection
Curry, as you know, is an avid golfer. He launched the Underrated Golf Tour in 2022 to make competitive golf and its life lessons more accessible, equitable and inclusive for young players, regardless of their means and background.
Miura, as you may also know, is a legendary small-batch manufacturer of high-end forgings. You might think it goes back to samurai days but its actual history is more recent. The company was founded in 1977 by Katsuhiro Miura, a craftsman who started working on golf clubs as a teenager in the ‘50s.
Miura built its reputation on hand-crafted forgings made in limited quantities with tight manufacturing tolerances. The brand has earned near-mythical status among serious golfers and “gear nerds.” The Miura factory in Himeji, Japan, still uses the proprietary forging process developed by Katsuhiro who was known in golf circles as having the “hands of God” for his precision and quality.

How much of that reputation is mystique and how much is fact is debatable. Those in the know, however, attest that Miura’s quality control is second to none.
Miura x Curry irons set: Thoughts, price and availability
If you’re inclined to say something clever like, “nothing says access and inclusivity like a $5,000 iron set,” you might want to take a seat and think first. Like with Curry’s recent collabs with Vessel and L.A.B. Golf, these irons are limited-edition collectibles. They’re made for the express purpose of raising money to support the Underrated Golf Tour. The Tour does not charge kids to participate in the program. In fact, it pays travel costs for participants and a guardian to each of its national events.

So, when you buy a set of these irons, that’s what you’re supporting.
Who buys a $5,000 set of irons? More people than you might think. For most of them, five grand is couch-cushion money and they’ll gladly support Curry’s cause. The irons, at that point, are a tchotchke, something to own. The over/under on how many of these 300 sets will actually touch dirt is probably around 138.

The Miura x Curry iron set collab will be available starting on Oct. 19. For more information, visit the Miura website.
