Check out the upcoming Alcor Wedge from Vega Golf, which features a distinctly funky fluted back cavity design. Rest assured this isn’t just happy milling, those channels provide aesthetic detail with an actual purpose.
It’s not the least bit uncommon for wedges to have a center of gravity that’s located low and towards the heel. With the Alcor wedge, Vega has strategically removed material in order to raise the CG while moving it to the true center of the of the clubface. The result, says Vega, is more spin and improved control.
There are some subtle details hidden within the channels. The cut lines get deeper as you move towards the sole, and they’re angled (and sized) to promote that high center CG we just talked about.
Vega is also using a new milling process which it claims improve spin. The sole is designed to be versatile-enough to allow clean contact from any lie.
Kyoei Forged
The Alcor wedge is forged by Kyoei from S25C carbon steel, so you can expect it to feel buttery soft.
Finally, Vega is using a new shaft with a new bend profile, which like other wedge-specific shafts, is designed to produce penetrating flight with plenty of spin.
Retail price will be: $239

Please keep reviewing these “odd ball” designs from smaller companies. I would never see any of this stuff if it wasn’t for you. I won’t buy one but it’s nice to see the different designs and the reasons behind them. I’ll look closer at COG next time I buy one….
