ECCO BIOM TOUR Golf Shoe

Today, ECCO unveiled the BIOM TOUR. This new spiked golf shoe relies heavily on the Danish company’s technology to (hopefully) provide a performance edge.

The “TOUR” moniker is not something to be thrown around lightly. It’s clear that ECCO put a lot of effort into making the BIOM TOUR a suitable performance golf shoe.

Behind the Design

ECCO’s no stranger to technology. They also love to throw around big words. I mean, what the heck is BIOM Natural Motion Technology? How does ECCO FLUIDFORM Direct Comfort Technology make a better golf shoe?

I’ll do my best to break it down.

When ECCO designates a shoe as a “BIOM” shoe, it means the shoe is built with the natural motion of the foot in mind. Between a wider last, natural flex grooves to move with your foot and a sole that sits lower to the ground, the shoe should provide a more natural fit. ECCO’s BIOM technology is simply the brand’s attempt to make their shoes feel less like a shoe.

“Our latest collection is an excellent representation of our never-ending effort to push the boundaries of comfort, performance and style,” said Jason Bonenberger, Golf Sales Director, ECCO GOLF USA. “We design shoes with relentlessly high standards and dedication to quality, which is why those who have played in a pair of ECCOs know the difference.”

FLUIDFORM Direct Comfort Technology is a fancy way of saying ECCO’s foam midsoles are injected as a liquid and molded around the last to create an anatomically correct fit and shape. The goal? Create more holistic comfort.

Enough about technology. Let’s see the darned shoe, already!

First Impressions

ECCO BIOM Tour

I’ve had the ECCO BIOM TOUR for about two weeks so I wanted to share some initial thoughts before my full performance review (coming soon).

As far as materials and craftsmanship, the BIOM TOUR is top-notch. I’m a big fan of the leather (ECCO’s bread and butter) and I found the BIOM TOUR to be one of (if not the most) comfortable shoes I’ve worn from the brand to date.

That said, the lack of GORE-TEX technology is interesting to me, seeing as it’s used in most of their other mainline golf shoes.

Another thing to look out for, especially with spiked golf shoes, is sole thickness. I think ECCO’s BIOM technology, which places the foot closer to the ground overall, makes it easier to feel the spikes beneath your feet. When walking on firm surfaces, this is very apparent (and somewhat uncomfortable).

ECCO BIOM Tour comes in two colorways

All signs point to the ECCO BIOM TOUR being a decent performer. While I absolutely love the technology story, it’s easy to get lost in the marketing of it all. Don’t let the big words (and buzzwords) scare you. That said, I’m a fan of what I’ve seen and experienced thus far.

If you’re in need of a well-crafted, tech-heavy golf shoe and are willing to spend a little extra, the ECCO BIOM TOUR is available now.

Do they have a heal or are they a zero drop shoe?

I had the previous Biom with boa.
      Love them, super comfortable……BUT

They seemed to collect dirt and dust. They looked 10 years old every time I wore them, even when I cleaned them often.
