Reebok Returns To Golf With One Question: Why?

Well, why not?

Golf is hip. Golf is in. And Reebok is seeing its biggest competitors making waves, thinking “Why not us?” They are, after all, one of the biggest in the industry NOT to offer a legitimate golf line.

Well, that changes now. And luckily for both you and me, Reebok is leaning heavily on proven commodities to bolster their reentry into the performance golf space.

Reebok is giving us three bangers to kick of the golf season, starting with their ever-popular crossfit silhouette, the Nano.

If that wasn’t enough to pique your interest, can I offer you a golf shoe with perhaps ‘Bok’s most famous innovation, the Pump? Yeah, those of you old enough to be my dad probably get goosebumps thinking about Shaq bringing down a rim in a pair of Reebok Pumps.

Oh, and the cherry on top? Without question, it’s the Question: Allen Iverson’s (against whom MyGolfSpy founder Adam Beach played ball in high school) signature Reebok shoe is making its way to the golf course and I couldn’t be more excited.

Still with me? Let’s dive a little deeper into the three golf shoes Reebok is offering and get a little history lesson in the process.

Nano Golf: A big deal

Way back in 2011, crossfitters were elated that a big sports brand like Reebok would pay attention to them. Ahead of the curve and the competition, Reebok saw crossfit as a huge footwear opportunity and thus the original crossfit shoe, the Nano, was born.

Now, with more than 14 successful iterations in the rearview, Nano is making its way to golf. Naturally, it’s packed with a lot of the same tech that makes Nano one of the most revered shoes in athletics.

With the Reebok Nano golf, you’re getting:

  • Reebok’s flagship FloatRide foam
  • Woven, FlexWeave upper (durable and breathable)
  • TPU shankplate (for torsional rigidity)

The Nano Golf shoe will retail for $130 and has already made its way to the feet of brawny bomber Bryson DeChambeau.

A question about the Question

Can we get some more colors, please?

All jokes aside, the Question is one of, if not the most iconic, franchises in Reebok’s repertoire. I’m a little young to have experienced the Allen Iverson craze but as a sneaker enthusiast since the early 2010s I can definitely appreciate what the Question and AI mean to basketball.

How does that translate to golf? I wouldn’t say seamlessly. It’s not, say, a one-to-one re-creation similar to what we see from Jordan Brand on the Jordan 1 golf shoes. Instead, it’s a sleeker, slimmed-down version of the icon with a few missing features.

Can you say Hexalite? The best part of the OG Question shoe, the Hexalite cushion, is nowhere to be felt (or seen) on the Question golf shoe. Instead, we’re given a nameless cushion setup that sits atop a fairly aggressive-looking spikeless outsole.

No, I’m not mad. Just a little disappointed the Question golf shoe doesn’t at least try a little harder to mirror its basketball brother. Even still, I’m hyped about it making its way to the golf course and will absolutely be wearing it in my next scramble.

Something about that tumbled leather toe has me ready to hit a mean crossover on the GOAT himself (IYKYK).

The Reebok Question Golf shoe will retail for $180 (honestly a great price for a leather shoe).

What da hell is a polar bear doing in Arlington, Texas?

That was my initial reaction to seeing Reebok’s OG Pump Golf shoe. Is Pump technology really necessary on a golf shoe? No. But is it dang cool and am I excited about it? Heck, yes!

As I mentioned, I’m a little young to have experienced the full hype of Reebok’s Pump technology but I’ve seen enough clips of Shaq, Dennis Rodman and Dee Brown to paint a clear picture of the hype behind it.

After doing some research, I was surprised to read that this isn’t the first time Reebok’s thrown a Pump onto a golf shoe. Greg Norman was actually an earlier adopter of the technology back in the ’80s. Who knew?

For those that haven’t experienced “The Pump”, here’s quick breakdown;

  • Inflatable bladder fills with air to hug the foot
  • Quick release system
  • Allows athletes to customize and dial in their fit, so to speak.

While I’m unsure exactly how “The Pump” is implemented in the OG Pump Golf Shoe (is it the whole shoe, just the tongue, etc.?), I do know that having that iconic Pump technology on the outside gives this shoe a fighting chance at retail, especially with the “more seasoned” crowd.

The OG Pump Golf Shoe will retail for $200 and features the same outsole tooling as the Question Golf Shoe.

Rounding it out

In addition to the three shoe drops, Reebok is launching a performance golf apparel line. This will be available in men’s and women’s styles. Oh, and they’ve already started to tease a co-branded Reebok x Bryson DeChambeau collection in the near future.

The entire Reebok Golf franchise, including both footwear and apparel, will be available to purchase starting on March 25.
