Hey, Justin Rose! What’s Up With Those Shoes?

Besides the big check, Justin Rose’s big win this past weekend at the FedEx St. Jude Championship puts him in line for an even bigger check and the coveted FedEx Cup. Given Rose’s overall popularity, it’s not surprising that his WITB (What’s In The Bag) is getting more internet play than the Liberty Mutual emu.

We could be like everyone else and share Rose’s WITB with you, but then we’d be just like everyone else. Unless you’re very new around here, you know that’s just not our style.

Instead, we wish to share with you something truly special (and perhaps a tad unusual): Justin Rose’s WOTF: What’s On The Feet.

PAYNTR X Tour Proto RS golf shoes

WOTF? WTF?

If you’re a golf shoe geek, Rose’s WOTF is, in fact, significant. It represents an important first for the shoe brand Rose wore, PAYNTR Golf.

In winning the title, Rose wore the PAYNTR Golf X Tour Proto RS shoes. It marked the very first PGA Tour victory for a player wearing PAYNTR golf shoes.

“This is a proud milestone for our young brand,” PAYNTR President and Co-founder Mike Forsey tells MyGolfSpy. “To see a player of Justin’s caliber, completely independent of any sponsorship, choose our X Tour Proto RS and win at the highest level is a tremendous validation of our design philosophy.”

“This shoe was born from a relentless focus on performance, blending traction, stability and comfort,” adds Creative Director and Co-founder Michael Glancy. “We promise a performance advantage with everything we do. Moments like this validate that.”

Rose is not sponsored by PAYNTR nor is he a brand ambassador. By all accounts, he’s wearing PAYNTR shoes for one simple reason.

He likes them.

The skinny on PAYNTR X Tour Proto RS shoes

PAYNTR golf shoes have been fixtures on the medal podium in MyGolfSpy’s Best Golf Shoe testing, and the PAYNTR X Tour Proto RS is no different. It was released in 2024 and finished a strong second place overall in last year’s spiked shoe test. Our testers loved the leather upper and comfortable PMX Foam™ midsole. It also scored well for traction, although testers dinged it just a touch on stability, saying it’s on the flexible side, a bit like a running shoe.

We know shoes don’t win golf tournaments any more than clubs do. The golfer wearing the shoe does the winning. Still, for a company that released its first golf shoe just four years ago, winning on Tour is something PAYNTR has every right to be proud of.

The PAYNTR X Tour Proto RS golf shoe is available in white or black and retail for $220.

I know the founder of Payntr and he seems like a great dude. Great to see his company doing well and getting this kind of mention.

When they make a comfortable, supportive, wide-toed shoe let me know.

I was an early adopter of Payntr golf shoes right after the initial release of the X 001 F 4+ years ago. They have proven to be excellent golf shoes and I have bought several pairs since incl. the X 002 LE. I only wish that they offered more color options, as most of the shoes are either white or black with a minor color accent. I am hopeful they will be expanding the options as a result of the recent release of the Olive X 002 LE. I don’t expect them to go down the path of G/Fore, but a little variety would spice things up.
